VARIOUS STILL PHOTOGRAPHS OF UNEARTHED STATUES OF HEALING GODS ANTALYA, TÜRKIYE - RELEASED ON AUG. 6: Archaeologists have unearthed a 1,800-year-old marble statue group depicting the ancient Greek god of healing Asclepius and his son and assistant Telesphoros during excavations at the ancient city of Aspendos, Türkiye's Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced on Thursday, Aug. 6. The 2.2-meter-tall sculpture was discovered among the ruins of the northern wing of the Monumental Gate in the Eastern Square of the ancient city's Theater Street as part of the Ministry's "Future Heritage Project." Dating to the late second century AD, the Roman-era artwork reflects the sculptural style of the period through the figures' posture, the drapery of the garments, and the detailed craftsmanship of Asclepius' face, hair and beard, according to the ministry. Officials said the discovery provides new archaeological evidence about the cult of Asclepius, health-related beliefs and public life in Roman-era Aspendos.
