Around 2,000 people are crossing daily into Syria through the Oncupinar border gate in southeastern province of Kilis, according to border officials. Hassan Haj Ali, general relations director at the Bab al-Salam crossing in Syria, said special arrangements had been made for voluntary returns and holiday travel. He said customs authorities introduced some temporary facilitation measures for Eid, including exemptions for Türkiye-plated vehicles owned by Syrians and free crossing for a two-month period. Some Syrians said they were happy to return home for the holiday, while others said they were considering permanent return as conditions improve in Syria. Families traveling through the crossing said the visit also allowed children born in Türkiye to see Syria and meet relatives for the first time.
