Footage released by Spain's Ministry of Defense showed troops carrying out firefighting and defensive operations overnight in the municipalities of La Adrada and Piedralaves, both located in Avila province. The ministry said personnel remained deployed throughout the night to contain the wildfire while awaiting daylight conditions that would allow firefighting efforts to intensify. Wildfire response operations remained ongoing as emergency crews continued working to prevent the blaze from spreading. A “state of emergency” was declared because of forest fires around Madrid. In the Cinco Villas area, more than 16,000 hectares were reduced to ashes.
