The firefighting operation focused on the areas of Zafara, Formariz and Dehesa de Pelazas, where flames threatened nearby homes. The village of Rabano de Aliste in Zamora was confined as another blaze threatened the settlement, while a fire in Burgohondo, Avila, was raised to severity Level 2 after burning more than 300 hectares. Members of Spain's Military Emergency Unit (UME) worked to extinguish active fire fronts while drones monitored the wildfire's spread and supported ground operations. Wildfires have burned more than 172,000 hectares (425,000 acres) across Spain so far this year, with major blazes affecting Avila, Madrid and Castellon. Authorities declared the Madrid and Avila wildfires stabilized and began lifting evacuation measures, while new fires in Zamora and Leon forced further evacuations. The government has also designated areas affected by 211 civil protection emergencies across 14 autonomous communities, most of them linked to wildfires. The fires come as Spain experiences a heat wave, with temperatures exceeding 42C (107.6F) in several regions and red alerts issued for highs of up to 46C (114.8F).
