Various of personal belongings on beach, floating at sea Storyline Stripped of food and hope, thousands of migrants who crossed into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta from Morocco now face a grim reality on its streets. The North African enclave of Ceuta recently saw an unprecedented surge, with an estimated 72,000 people crossing the border. Amid the chaos of the mass influx, dozens of people lost their lives. A former military hospital in the enclave has been converted into a makeshift morgue, currently holding the remains of at least 88 migrants recovered from the sea. As night fell, hopes for a better life in Europe gave way to a harsh reality. Asked whether he had eaten that day, a Moroccan migrant broke down in tears. "No. Today I've not eaten anything, I swear. I don't have a cousin for ..." said Mohamed. The mass influx has quickly transformed into a profound humanitarian exodus across the city, with many migrants gathering around local mosques in desperate search of basic shelter, food, and water, uncertain where they will go next.
