Philippines: Rivers Of Lava Flow From Mayon Volcano In Dramatic Nighttime Scenes.
Jul 9, 2026
Philippines - July 08, 2026 Video filmed by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology shows sped-up footage of lava effusion from the summit crater of Mayon Volcano recorded between 12:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. on July 8, 2026. The time-lapse video captures glowing incandescent lava slowly effusing and flowing from the summit crater as bright orange-red molten material cascades down the slopes in the darkness. The effusive eruption at Mayon Volcano continues for the 184th consecutive day, generating incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents known as "uson," and rockfalls. Occasional rockfalls and possible small pyroclastic density currents are visible in the footage as eruptive activity persists steadily. Alert Level 3 remains in effect over Mayon Volcano, and entry into the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone is prohibited due to the ongoing hazards.
