US, Los Angeles: Santa Clarita Surprise Heavy Rain Part 1.

Los Angeles, United States - August 11, 2026 08/11/2026 11:45 am GMT-0700 SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – A sudden burst of heavy rain surprised residents and motorists in parts of the Santa Clarita Valley moments ago, briefly interrupting an otherwise hot and sunny August day. Temperatures had climbed into the upper 80s Tuesday morning before winds suddenly increased, clouds formed over the area, and temperatures quickly dropped. Heavy rain began at approximately 11:44 a.m. along the Interstate 5 corridor north of Calgrove Boulevard and continued for about nine minutes before ending around 11:53 a.m. Ring doorbell cameras and ground footage captured the unexpected downpour, with rain rapidly soaking streets and neighborhoods before conditions began clearing almost as quickly as they arrived. The unusual August shower comes as El Niño conditions continue strengthening across the Pacific Ocean. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issued an El Niño Advisory and said the climate pattern is expected to strengthen through the end of 2026 and persist into early spring 2027. NOAA has also indicated that impacts associated with the developing 2026-27 El Niño, including unusually warm ocean temperatures, are expected to begin affecting portions of the West Coast as early as late summer. While El Niño can influence larger-scale weather patterns, particularly during the winter months, the brief Santa Clarita rain event has not been officially attributed to El Niño.
