Panama: Panama Canal cuts daily transit slots amid reduced rainfall.

VARIOUS OF VESSELS SAILING / PEOPLE WATCHINGPANAMA CITY, PANAMA - AUGUST 22, 2026: The Panama Canal will temporarily reduce the number of daily transit slots at its locks starting Sept. 3 due to below-expected rainfall in the canal watershed. According to an Advisory to Shipping issued by the Panama Canal Authority (ACP), daily transit slots at the Neopanamax Locks will be reduced to nine, while the number of slots at the Panamax Locks will be set at 25. The ACP said the number of daily slots available at the Panamax Locks will be further reduced to 23 starting Sept. 15. Despite the arrival of Panama's rainy season and water-saving measures implemented to mitigate the effects of the El Niño weather phenomenon, below-expected precipitation in the canal watershed has prompted the authority to take additional measures.
