(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST EID AL-HATHALEEN, SAYING: “For about two weeks now, we have been facing nightly settler attacks on a daily basis. Every Saturday and Friday, or at the end of the week or the beginning of the week, settlers attack in a systematic way every day against the house of Salem al-Hathaleen. Salem al-Hathaleen’s house is located on the edge of the village of Umm al-Khair. The settlers claim that this land belongs to them, but they do not have any proof. The Israeli Supreme Court ruled that the caravans they built a year ago on the land of Umm al-Khair are illegal. But they are acting outside the law, so they continue to attack people, beat people, and try to bring a fence and place it on the land in order to impose a new reality on the ground. There was also a bathroom for the family, but they prevented them from using it. They placed a swing and chairs at the entrance of the bathroom and stopped the family from using the sheep pen where their sheep are kept. Even feeding the sheep is now banned, and grazing them is also prohibited, because the area has been declared a military zone for 44 hours for Palestinians, but not for settlers. The settlers have freedom of movement, while Palestinians are completely banned from moving.” 12. PALESTINIAN HOUSES (2 SHOTS) 13. HEAD OF UMM AL-KHAIR VILLAGE KHALIL AL-HATHALEEN WALKING (2 SHOTS) 14. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) HEAD OF UMM AL-KHAIR VILLAGE KHALIL AL-HATHALEEN, SAYING: “Last night, after the military order expired, we were surprised by an attack that was more violent than before. A large group of settlers attacked and tried to take over the family’s house. They demolished part of the sheep pen with their own hands. There was no army and no police present. They were violent, and several people were injured. Six injuries were treated in the field. Three activists were arrested in the area, which includes the closed military zone, the residential area, and the sheep pen. The military order was extended for about two more days. The sheep have now been left for nearly five days without water and without food, and we are very afraid that we will lose this livestock. No one can reach the sheep today because they are inside the pen, and the pen is within the military zone. We are being monitored, and anyone who reaches this area will be accused of entering a military zone and will be arrested. So no one is able to reach it. Our appeal today is clear: protect the family. The family has not slept at night for four days. No one in the village is sleeping at night at all. The number of injuries we have had has reached around 15 so far. For a week now, there has been fear and anxiety. The situation is very frightening.” MASAFER YATTA, WEST BANK, PALESTINE - JULY 6: Residents of Umm al-Khair village in the Masafer Yatta area of the southern occupied West Bank said Israeli settlers have intensified their attacks on the village in recent days. On Monday, July 6, Khalil al-Hathaleen, head of the Umm al-Khair Village Council, told Anadolu that the village has been subjected to settler attacks for more than 45 years, but noted that the attacks have recently increased. Al-Hathaleen said three major attacks took place in less than a week. The first began with an attack on and detention of Salem al-Hathaleen, followed by a second attack in which five people were injured, and finally the most violent attack, which took place early Monday. He said settlers tried to seize Salem al-Hathaleen’s house and damaged a sheep pen, adding that six Palestinians were injured in the latest attack and three activists were detained. "Last night, after the military order expired, we were surprised by an attack that was more violent than before. A large group of settlers attacked and tried to take over the family’s house. They demolished part of the sheep pen with their own hands. There was no army and no police present," al-Hathaleen told Anadolu.
