Fukushima, Japan - May 24, 2026 Panic spread through the Soma Nomaoi festival’s armored horse racing event on May 24, 2026, after a decorated horse broke free from the track and charged into a packed spectator area. The footage, originally posted on YouTube channel postman624, shows a brown horse wearing traditional red-and-white festival decorations suddenly breaking into a fast sprint along the dirt course before leaping over a low barrier. The animal then rushed directly toward a dense crowd gathered beside the fence and along a grassy bank near the track. Spectators scattered in different directions as the horse surged through the area, while others stood frozen or continued filming as it passed only meters away. The horse continued running through a narrow spectator passage, narrowly avoiding collisions with people before the clip ended. The person who recorded the video described the incident as a moment that “almost caused a major accident” during the traditional festival in Fukushima Prefecture. The Soma Nomaoi is one of Japan’s most famous ancient horse festivals, featuring armored riders and ceremonial horse races.
