Various of Capitol building Storyline Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Friday that Iran is examining a U.S. proposal to end the war, semi-official Tasnim news agency reported. Baghaei said Iran will announce its response after completing the assessment, the report said. Baghaei also said while Iran is nominally in a ceasefire, its armed forces are fully prepared and closely monitoring the situation, ready to "retaliate against any aggression if necessary", Tasnim reported. Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the U.S. has not yet received a formal response from Iran, but expects a reply on Friday. On Feb. 28, Israel and the United States launched joint strikes on Tehran and other cities, killing Iran's then Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, senior commanders, and civilians. Iran responded with waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and U.S. interests in the region. A ceasefire took effect on April 8, followed by talks between Iranian and U.S. delegations in Islamabad, Pakistan that failed to produce a deal.
