People gathered at the venue carrying Iranian flags and banners, while prayers were chanted during the commemoration. Khamenei was buried at the Imam Reza Shrine in the northeastern city of Mashhad on July 9 after being killed in a joint US-Israeli strike. Khamenei was killed in a joint US-Israeli strike on Iran in July, amid heightened regional tensions and escalating military confrontation between Tehran, Israel and the US.
