Aerial shots of expressway Storyline The Malutang Mega Bridge, a key structure on a major expressway in southwest China's Yunnan Province, completed closures on Sunday, marking the full connectivity of the expressway and adding a new gateway artery along the China-Vietnam border. The bridge's edge girders, which connects the two ends of the structure, have been fully joined. With the deck installation completed, a solid foundation has been laid for the entire expressway to open to traffic. Spanning the Malutang Reservoir, the bridge measures 1,005.5 meters in length with a main span of 480 meters. It is a steel-concrete composite cable-stayed bridge. The construction underwent serious challenges as the bridge is located in an area featuring widespread distribution of fault fractures, fractured rock zones, and ancient landslide bodies. The expressway starts from the Tianbao Port on the border between China and Vietnam and ends at the county seat of Malipo in Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, with a total length of 52.8 kilometers. It is expected to reach opening condition by October this year. Once fully opened to traffic, the expressway will bring convenient transportation access to nearly 100,000 residents along the route.
