Workers checking facilities Storyline East China’s Jiangxi Province intensified disaster prevention as Typhoon Noul weakened to a tropical storm but continued to pose flood risks, with authorities evacuating residents and releasing reservoir water to reduce danger. By 21:00 Sunday, more than 7,700 people in Ganzhou City had been relocated ahead of the storm, and flood and typhoon prevention measures had been implemented. Persistent downpours from Typhoon Noul’s outer circulation sharply raised water levels in rivers and reservoirs across western Ganzhou. On Sunday evening, the Shangyoujiang Reservoir, a key flood‑control project on the upper Zhangjiang River, began releasing water at 500 cubic meters per second, a rate designed to ease reservoir pressure and create space for incoming floodwaters. Meanwhile, western Jiangxi’s Pingxiang City saw rainfall from early Monday, with forecasters warning of moderate to heavy rain and local downpours through the night. The Shankouyan Reservoir, the city's largest reservoir and a major water source, had already been preemptively drained of 10 million cubic meters of water in previous days through scientific scheduling. The water level has been kept within a safe range to brace for the incoming heavy rainfall, according to the local water resources department.
