Aerial shots of river, traffic Storyline Multiple regions across northwest China's Gansu Province have been battered by a severe weather system that has brought strong winds, widespread sand and dust storms, and sharp temperature declines from Wednesday to Thursday, local meteorological authorities reported. The adverse conditions, driven by a combination of cold air masses and a plateau low-vortex system, have affected the five major cities along the Hexi Corridor, an important trade route in northwest China, as well as Lanzhou, Baiyin, and Wuwei cities. In some areas, temperatures plummeted by more than eight degrees Celsius. The bad weather has notably impacted daily life and transportation. In the downtown areas of Lanzhou, the provincial capital, visibility dropped considerably, prompting residents to wear protective masks and more clothes against the wind and chill. Traffic authorities advised motorists to reduce speed and keep safe due to impaired visibility from airborne dust. Precipitation is predicted to move into the region late on Thursday, which should help ease the dust conditions, according to meteorological authorities.
