Storyline China's Pu'er launches smart management platform for ancient tea trees Officials in China’s Pu'er City have just tagged more than 300,000 ancient tea trees in the old tea forest of Jingmai Mountain and have launched a smart management platform to protect them. The region was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2023 and includes five well-preserved old tea forests, nine traditional villages, and three protective forests. In July 2025, local authorities began a full survey of ancient tea tree resources using satellite positioning and on-site measurements. Liu Gang, project manager of the digital management for tea trees on Jingmai Mountain: "Every tagged ancient tree has GPS positioning, allowing follow up monitoring of yield and other data." The teams tagged more than 320,000 tea trees aged 100 years or older. [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
