Canberra, Australia - August 24, 2026 Aerial and street-level footage shows residential buildings and apartment complexes across Australian capital cities, August 24, 2026. A report released by housing advocacy group Everybody's Home found that median rents for units in all eight Australian capital cities now exceed half the national average income, with a person earning the median annual salary of 74,100 Australian dollars spending at least 51 percent of their income on rent. The group called on the federal government to build nearly one million public and community homes within 15 years.
