I lost my company and my house in the same week, and on the church steps after the Sunday service I asked my son if I could stay a few days, and his wife answered for him in front of the whole congregation: that wouldn't be comfortable for us. Nobody said another word to me. I slept in my car behind the fellowship hall with my coat over me. And the next morning, on those same steps, a butler in white gloves was standing there waiting for me with an envelope, sent by a dying man whose name meant nothing to me at all.
