I found my granddaughter's christening gown in the church donation bin - the one I sewed by hand, and I knew my own stitching the second I touched it. For nine years my daughter-in-law swore that gown was wrapped in tissue in her cedar chest. I took it home, ran my thumb along the hem, and felt the small hard shape still sewn in there. So I opened my own seam with the scissors I have owned since 1974, and what fell into my lap was in my husband's handwriting. He had been dead nine years.
