At My Daughter's Rehearsal Dinner Her Fiance
Jul 29, 2026
At my daughter's rehearsal dinner her fiance raised his glass and toasted our family, and I was laughing right along with everybody else. I am seventy-one years old and I drove freight for thirty-four years. Then my daughter crossed that barn floor, put her hand flat on my sleeve so the shaking would not show, and said nine words against my ear that nobody else in that room heard. I had eleven hours before the wedding, and everything I found out started with one phone call at midnight.
