in today's video we're going to be
0:01
putting together a pocket survival kit
0:03
that anybody can do stick around I'm
0:05
going to show you how to do
0:06
[Music]
0:12
it all right today's video we're going
0:15
to be looking at this uh pocket survival
0:18
kit that I put together and um pocket
0:21
survival kit may be a little bit of a
0:25
misleading term um but I really couldn't
0:28
think of a better term for it
0:30
because it's a pouch a small pouch
0:33
that's going to contain a lot of basic
0:35
survival items um that you could carry
0:38
in your
0:39
pocket uh in a BDU pocket jacket pocket
0:44
but the way I'm going to show you how to
0:46
use this I've set it up using this
0:49
baldric rig which is basically just 550
0:52
cord um tied into a dou double
0:55
fisherman's Bend and I'll talk a little
0:58
bit about why I did that and how I used
1:00
utilize that but the pouch that we're
1:02
looking at today is actually a pouch I
1:05
already did a review on about two videos
1:08
back um I was talking about some great
1:11
EDC pouches that I found on Amazon and
1:14
this is one of them this is from
1:15
viperade uh I guess this is like the vp8
1:19
or something like that it's a great
1:20
little pouch uh that can hold a lot of
1:23
stuff but what's really cool about it is
1:26
it has these Loops that are sewn into
1:28
the top of it
1:30
and as one of my viewers pointed out
1:33
that's probably a great place to put a
1:35
lanyard through and carry it around your
1:37
neck which makes a lot of sense uh but I
1:41
kind of took that one step further with
1:44
that suggestion and instead of making
1:46
this like an EDC pouch that you would
1:49
carry every day I've turned this more
1:51
into a mini survival kit that can be
1:55
carried in multiple ways and that's what
1:57
we're going to look at and I'm going to
1:58
show you the items I in this thing to
2:01
see what it can actually carry all right
2:03
here's the viperade pouch pretty cool
2:06
pouch uh I went over this uh two videos
2:08
ago but basically what it is all right
2:12
here's the viperade pouch pretty cool
2:14
little EDC pouch but can easily be
2:16
turned into a survival kit or even a
2:20
dedicated uh Bushcraft kind of fire kit
2:23
that you can always carry with you and
2:25
since it has some different ways of
2:27
carrying it with these loops or just
2:31
slipping it into your pocket of your
2:33
jacket or BDU pants uh this becomes a
2:36
pretty handy little item now what I've
2:39
done is I've tried to cover all the
2:41
basics with this as much as possible and
2:43
of course there are shortcomings anytime
2:46
you put together kits of this size
2:47
because you are limited on the amount of
2:50
stuff you can carry and that's why a lot
2:53
of times these Altoid tin survival kits
2:56
that we all kind of started building
2:58
when we first got into survival
3:00
Bushcraft really turn out to be kind of
3:02
ridiculous and carry very little items
3:05
that are usable because everything's so
3:08
small so upgrading to something a little
3:10
bit bigger like this will give you a
3:13
better chance of being successful and
3:16
give you some more usable tools so on
3:19
this side we have two slots and then a
3:22
large slot in the back and then we have
3:23
this Molly webbing on the front um light
3:28
source always a good item to have this
3:31
is a Streamlight micro stream it's a
3:35
fantastic little uh
3:37
flashlight uh what's nice about these
3:39
micro streams is that you can actually
3:41
clip these to the the bill of a ball cap
3:44
and now you have basically a
3:49
headlamp and then cutting tool always
3:52
important item to have and I really
3:55
think um there's a lot of different
3:57
options but I feel that the Victorian Bo
4:01
is probably one of the best options you
4:02
can get uh lightweight affordable this
4:06
is the Forester model and what's nice
4:09
about the Forester is that it is a
4:11
locking blade it has a saw and let me
4:14
tell you these Victorinox saws are
4:16
pretty handy for doing small camp tasks
4:19
and then of course we've got can openers
4:21
bottle
4:23
openers wine cork remover which is
4:26
probably the most unimportant item but
4:28
it can be utilized for other things if
4:30
you're are
4:31
crafty and then you've
4:34
got a couple different screwdrivers and
4:36
of course those can open or bottle
4:37
openers but I really like the Forester
4:39
just because of its size of the rubber
4:42
grip on it it's got a good feel to it
4:45
and that locking
4:47
blade you can open that up with one hand
4:50
pretty
4:51
easily becomes a very effective small
4:55
tool can do a lot of chores with this in
4:58
Camp
4:59
then we have a nice small right in the r
5:03
notebook always good idea to be able to
5:06
take notes or leave notes um if you are
5:09
going off somewhere on trail and you
5:11
want to leave a note um you can do that
5:13
with one of these and then very unique
5:16
little item that I have here this is
5:19
from a small maker by the name of Father
5:22
Nomad he does a lot of 3D printing and
5:25
this is his Design This little uh
5:28
miniature
5:30
light stick holder that will slip onto
5:33
Molly webbing or any kind of one-inch
5:35
webbing you have and these little glow
5:39
sticks actually you can buy these in
5:41
fishing
5:43
departments they're for night fishing
5:45
but you break that open and you will
5:47
have a good light source for marking an
5:50
area or your
5:53
gear they work pretty well and they last
5:55
a pretty good long time on this side
5:58
I've got
6:00
a right in the rain pen for my
6:03
notepad and then really a fantastic
6:07
little item this is fire ribbon so
6:09
basically this is kind of a almost like
6:11
a wax impregnated uh paper that you tear
6:15
off a piece and you
6:18
scrape this material fluff it up a
6:21
little bit and then hit it with a spark
6:22
and it will burn pretty good long time
6:25
really good stuff for starting a fire
6:28
and since it's flat
6:30
it really doesn't take up a lot of
6:32
room the velcro field here I've added
6:36
this patch which I think kind of adds to
6:39
the ho being able to see uh and and
6:43
signal with this is um a patch that
6:45
glows in the dark but also is reflective
6:48
and let me show you how that
6:50
works so there you can see it's glowing
7:05
pretty reflective
7:16
item here's the glow stick
7:35
pretty
7:38
cool in this
7:42
pouch I have a few things first item is
7:45
this little pouch that
7:46
contains uh some survival cards and a
7:50
couple other small items so I've got
7:52
these
7:56
SE Zulu survival cards
8:00
um I forget how I obtained these I think
8:02
they may have came with a kit um I
8:05
believe that comes separately from SC
8:08
knives but they're really cool because
8:10
they have a lot of useful information on
8:12
them and they're very small lightweight
8:13
laminated
8:15
cards but you've
8:18
got a lot of different information that
8:21
could be
8:23
handy in a
8:27
situation and then of course um uh
8:30
magnifying glass for Starting Fire but
8:32
also for reading maps and uh inspecting
8:36
wounds taking out slivers out of your
8:38
finger this can come in handy for that
8:41
and then we have a couple of water
8:44
purification tablets to add to a water
8:47
bottle or a canteen and then this very
8:50
nice little miniature signal mirror that
8:52
I got from Best Glide Best Glide if
8:55
you're not familiar with them they saw a
8:56
lot of survival
8:58
supplies and survival
9:01
kits and this all
9:07
fits this little
9:09
sleeve that the magnifying glass came in
9:12
from Best Glide so makes for a nice
9:15
compact card
9:18
kit then of course you're going to have
9:20
to have a whistle for
9:24
signaling and then a mini Ferro rod
9:32
just to show how effective these little
9:34
Ferro rods can be if they're if you have
9:36
the right tools and know how to use
9:42
them it's even
9:48
got small
9:53
magnesium bar on it
10:11
in the main pouch I have a couple items
10:14
I have some stere strips and a few
10:18
Band-Aids that I've sealed up in a
10:21
plastic
10:25
bag and then of course Gorilla Tape
10:28
which Gorilla Tape actually um is great
10:31
for repairs but you can also tear off a
10:35
strip of this do your magnesium shavings
10:38
onto it and they'll stick to it so
10:39
they're not blowing all over the place
10:40
in the wind and then you can strike that
10:42
with your feral rod and get your fire
10:44
going so this becomes another method of
10:47
Starting
10:48
Fire and then of course got to have a
10:52
big
10:53
lighter now people ask me why I do this
10:56
why is there a zip tie on here well
11:00
is
11:01
actually
11:03
protecting uh or helping conserve the
11:08
fuel in the lighter and then when I need
11:11
it you can move it to the
11:15
side and get it to work if you press
11:17
hard enough but this is not going to
11:20
accidentally the pouch and I'm not going
11:22
to lose all the gas in this lighter so
11:25
this helped conserve the fuel so it's
11:26
ready to go when I need it now mini
11:30
compasses uh they're they're problematic
11:34
because there are tons of them on the
11:36
market most of them are junk uh this one
11:40
I don't have really high hopes for uh
11:43
most of the small ones button compasses
11:45
that I've purchased in the past they all
11:47
develop bubbles pretty quickly and they
11:48
stop working this one is still working
11:51
it's a zipper
11:53
pull Compass so this would be nice you
11:56
could throw this on your jacket or your
11:58
shirt or even on one of these loops on
12:01
the pouch and that would give you at
12:03
least a method of getting a bearing and
12:06
knowing which direction you're going to
12:08
be
12:08
walking but that is it that is the
12:11
contents of this pouch and obviously I
12:15
would love to carry more items but I
12:18
think there's
12:20
enough of the basics in here that you
12:24
should be able to
12:30
get
12:31
through a bad
12:35
situation a little bit more comfortably
12:38
you can obviously sterilize some water
12:40
you can do some basic signaling you've
12:43
got a light source in case you need to
12:45
hike out of an area so the Baldrick rig
12:48
is something that I utilize to carry
12:50
knives when I'm out in the field in the
12:52
winter time and um like the last video I
12:57
did I actually did a winter hike and I
12:58
was talking about how to set up a a
13:01
simple Baldrick rig and be able to carry
13:04
your field knife on your person um
13:07
without it being on your belt and that's
13:10
the whole point of it
13:12
because um carrying bulky heavy large
13:16
items underneath a jacket in the winter
13:19
can be proved difficult to get to you
13:22
have to undo layers you have to kind of
13:24
grab around underneath your jacket to
13:26
pull stuff out and a Baldrick rig allows
13:29
you to carry
13:36
items over the
13:42
shoulder so you can lengthen
13:45
this get it around your
13:48
shoulders and take your kit
14:00
flip it
14:07
in now can
14:09
hang down by your side all right hope
14:12
