what is going on
0:01
YouTubers i'm here to show you my new
0:04
favorite sleep system that I just
0:07
discovered i've had this thing out in
0:09
the field i've tested it and I want to
0:11
share it with you because oh man I am so
0:14
happy I found this thing so stick around
0:16
it's going to be a good video
0:18
[Music]
0:34
so I wanted to do something a little
0:36
different today i wanted to share with
0:38
you this sleep system that I found for
0:41
camping backpacking
0:43
uh you know getting out in the woods but
0:47
um it's kind of difficult to show this
0:49
stuff out in the field so I've had this
0:52
out in um the woods and I tested it did
0:55
an overnight with it and it performed
0:58
the way I wanted it to so now I feel
1:00
confident to show it to you but I
1:01
thought it'd be a lot easier just to
1:04
kind of lay this out on the table do
1:06
this indoors and I can talk you through
1:08
the features of this thing and then I'm
1:10
I'm going to cut in some video of me
1:11
actually using this stuff so you can see
1:13
it um how it looks out in the field and
1:16
how I was utilizing it and um then we'll
1:19
wrap up and I'll tell you what I think
1:20
about it what we're looking at today is
1:22
a sleeping bag from
1:25
APA and a sleeping pad from APA
1:30
now I've had probably all the major
1:33
brands for sleeping pads and sleeping
1:36
bags Therm Moest and uh Climate and all
1:41
those and um you know they have served
1:45
me well and then I kind of got out of
1:47
using that stuff and went to a hammock
1:50
um but recently within the last year
1:53
I've been having a lot of problems with
1:55
my lower back i've got some uh
1:58
compressed uh spine back there and I'm
2:02
having an issue with my hip i've got a
2:04
torn labum so sleeping in a hammock has
2:08
not really worked out the last few times
2:10
I've done it because it's unsupported
2:12
you know you're hanging and I need more
2:15
support for my back i need something
2:16
that's a little bit more rigid so I
2:18
recently went to the ground got back
2:21
into that and I quickly realized that
2:24
the pads that I had um were very
2:28
inadequate not very comfortable so we're
2:30
going to be looking at today is the
2:32
Atipa uh this is the Packite H9 it's
2:36
their sleeping pad this does have
2:38
insulation built into it so there is an
2:40
RF factor to it and um it's it's kind of
2:44
a a very different sleeping pad from
2:47
what I'm used
2:48
to and I'm going to show you here in a
2:50
minute now one thing I'm going to say
2:52
right out the right out of the gate is
2:54
that with this sleeping
2:56
pad you absolutely have to use a
3:02
um pump uh you don't want to use you
3:05
don't want to blow it up with your
3:07
breath and I say that because when I
3:10
took this out the first time I forgot
3:12
the pump and I was stuck so and I wanted
3:16
to get it blown up quickly because I it
3:18
was getting cold it's like 3540°
3:21
something like that so I blew it up with
3:23
my mouth
3:25
and worked fine um but when I got home
3:31
and I was taking it out of my bag I
3:33
noticed that there I could you can
3:35
actually see into this pretty well there
3:37
it's semi-t translansucent i could see
3:40
little water droplets
3:57
so now the bag itself does have a
4:02
builtin pump system but from experience
4:06
with these kinds of things it's going to
4:08
take you a while to do that so it's not
4:11
ideal to uh pump
4:15
up your pad that way uh I would I would
4:19
consider that more of an
4:35
emergency that's going to pump it up
4:38
quickly and it's not going to put any
4:40
moisture or warm air into the
4:57
pad okay so here's the pad all blown up
5:02
as you can
5:03
tell there is um a grid system little
5:08
individual cells and in the sunlight you
5:12
can actually see into this thing a
5:14
little bit and there is a reflective
5:18
reflectex type material inside of it
5:20
that is helps reflect your heat up and
5:23
like I said when I camped with this it
5:25
was you know mid30s low 40s at night um
5:29
and it was cold and I slept so warm and
5:33
comfortable on this pad so the sleeping
5:36
bag is the Atipa Peak Vent 520 and let
5:42
me get my glasses here and I'll try to
5:45
read you some
5:50
specs so it is
5:52
78.7 by 33 1/2 in
5:57
it is has an outer fabric of
6:00
20D 400T
6:02
nylon it has a lining of 20D 400T T
6:06
nylon and the filling is coldmaster
6:12
down
6:14
360 G top and then the bottom is
6:19
polyester 160G bottom weight uh for this
6:23
sleeping bag is 3.4 lb extreme comfort
6:26
level of about 10.4
6:29
uh
6:31
Fahrenheit and up to 44.5 Fahrenheit so
6:34
that's kind of the range you know uh 10°
6:38
may
6:39
be maybe a little uh pushing it um for
6:43
temperature rating
6:44
but we'll find out as more um as I use
6:48
this thing
6:57
bag is a little bit different than other
6:59
sleeping bags because it has all the
7:02
insulation on the top and the bottom
7:05
actually has this what I would call kind
7:06
of like a bikini that wraps around and
7:10
hugs the pad so the pad becomes
7:13
integrated with your sleeping bag and
7:15
then you can crawl into it um and you're
7:19
not going to be rolling off your pad in
7:21
the middle of night which when I used to
7:23
sleep in tents that was always such a
7:25
big deal i always hated that you know
7:27
you'd wake up and you'd be off of your
7:29
pad in the corner of your tent and it
7:32
was like "This is ridiculous um I wish
7:35
somebody would solve this problem." Well
7:37
someone has
7:39
so what you do is it has cutout
7:45
corners you're going to wrap those
7:49
around and it does have straps on the
7:52
bottom as well so you
7:55
can pull those through probably the best
7:59
way to do this is was would be actually
8:01
to to to thread this all the way through
8:04
and then blow up your pad so that way
8:06
when it blows up it's um it's conforming
8:10
to the bag already and you don't have to
8:12
try to slip it in and as you can see
8:15
this is more of a rectangular sleeping
8:17
bag it is not a a true mummy bag which
8:21
gives you more room more leg room more
8:24
room to roll but all your insulation is
8:27
on the top so now that this is joined
8:29
with the pad you're able to unzip this
8:33
from either side left or right
8:36
and crawl into this
8:41
thing and there's your sleeping bag and
8:43
another cool feature is it has this hood
8:47
but the hood is not a traditional hood
8:50
like in a mummy bag where you put it
8:52
around your head and around your neck
8:54
and your face sticks out this um is more
8:59
square like the bag
9:02
itself but you can cinch this up a
9:04
little bit
9:06
but what I found this was perfect for is
9:10
my pillow went in there and I didn't
9:13
lose my pillow because that is the other
9:15
issue with sleeping in sleeping bags and
9:17
in
9:25
tents and then a few more features this
9:28
does actually have zippers on the bottom
9:32
which is kind of
9:33
unusual but if you don't want um to have
9:38
your feet confined some people don't
9:40
like that or maybe for whatever reason
9:42
you you want to sleep with your shoes on
9:45
I don't know i mean you've got that
9:47
option but yes you can undo the bottom
9:50
right here unzip it and your feet can um
9:55
pop out the bottom
9:59
very comfortable super soft on the
10:01
inside i like the material it doesn't
10:03
feel clammy or hot uh the
10:08
pad has done really well because I don't
10:11
feel like I have any kind of uh aches or
10:13
pains in the morning when I wake up
10:15
usually I would get like some kind of
10:17
spots on my hip or my
10:19
shoulders and I didn't have it with this
10:22
and then of course the pad is so warm um
10:26
that was awesome just having a nice warm
10:28
pad i didn't have I didn't feel the cold
10:30
of the ground coming through on my tent
10:32
and I slept like a baby in this thing it
10:34
was It was awesome i'm so happy I found
