All right, so the kit I brought out is, I would consider this like a lightweight scouting
0:26
quick trip kind of thing. It's the Heel Contacts, it's their fanny pack, I think it's the Foxtrot or Wombat
0:36
I don't know, they got some weird designations, but that's the bag
0:40
And then what's cool about it is, it's a traditional lumbar type pack, but hooked up this condor
0:48
harness to it to give it some padding, give it some shoulder straps, but then also I can
0:54
add the hydration bladder. And now, I just got my Kukri in here, which I'm not going to be using, and then added
1:05
some water bottle pouches to the sides, to the belt, because they're molly, and that
1:11
gives me some options for carrying more water, because I like to have canteens on top of
1:16
hydration systems because bladders fail, they break, they leak, but if you want to carry
1:23
a lot of water and you're moving long distance through the woods, you need a lot of water
1:27
especially in weather like this. So I've got two 32 ounce Nalgenes, that's a pretty typical setup for me as a Nalgene
1:36
I do like the canteens, military issue canteens, or the Nalgene Oasis canteens, those work
1:41
really well. But these 32 ounce Nalgenes are pretty awesome. These are the lightweight ones, they're kind of flexible, they're not hard, they're not
1:49
the Lexan, so they're softer, they're lighter. And then what I do, my Kuk kit, with this particular bag, because it's so small, I have
1:59
to be really judicious with my space. I've got a titanium cup, it sits at the bottom of that nest in that bottle
2:12
This is Wild Camping International is the brand, I've worked with those guys for many
2:16
years and they make a really quality titanium cup. What I've done is, it has a bale that you can add to it, and I've taken the bale off
2:27
so I can store that in the pouch
2:39
I've got my lid, I've got my bale. And then for a kit like this, I don't have a lot of room to carry a ton of food, so I
2:50
make up my own little, I guess I would call it a mini MRE, but this is all stuff that
2:55
I got at the store. Super inexpensive, readily available, so I've got ramen just for some carbs, not a lot of
3:07
nutritional value with these, so I want to add some protein, so there's some pulled pork
3:14
BBQ, so I'll add that to the ramen. And then I always carry in all my gear the hydration multipliers from Liquid IV
3:29
Add these to a bottle of water and they're going to help you if you're getting dehydrated
3:33
and plus they taste good, so if you're filtering water or putting tabs in your water to treat
3:40
it, this will help with the taste. And of course coffee, hot sauce, always have to have hot sauce to add to my food
3:49
And then just a couple options, usually carry some type of meat stick, that's just a Jack Links
3:59
This stuff I can pick up at the store, really not a big deal, it doesn't have to be an elaborate
4:04
meal, especially if I'm moving a lot, I don't want to be weighed down with a lot of food
4:09
and you don't need as much food as you would think, especially in the summertime when there's
4:14
heat like this, water is way more important and you can get away with some small snacks
4:21
adding things like peanut butter and tortillas is another good option, they're lightweight
4:26
and they compress down pretty well. And then for my stove, this is a tried and true Esbit stove, this is a German issue
4:41
this is an old one, I've had this for many, many, many years, used it quite a bit, it's
4:45
the actual Bund designation on it. So Esbit tabs in themselves, people have different varying degrees of success with
4:58
them, they're alright for me, I've not had too many problems, sometimes they don't boil
5:03
a cup of water depending on the conditions, sometimes you have to add an extra tab, I've
5:08
also thrown in twigs underneath with the tab to extend the fire, but a couple other options
5:17
that I brought out, that you don't have to use the Esbit tabs, there are other different
5:25
fuel sources available commercially
5:35
So this is the Duraflame fire starter, you get these in the hardware section where the
5:41
fire pits are at, so people will use these to start their fire pits
5:45
They work pretty good. And then also, another brand, I'm not sure if they even make these anymore, they might
5:56
these are the Kuglins fuel tabs, I haven't really tried these yet, so I'm going to actually
6:02
light all three of these up and burn them and see which one burns the longest
6:13
Alright, so I'm going to run a test on these three head to head
6:19
I've never really done this, but I thought it would be a good demonstration for people
6:23
who are trying to figure out what kind of solid fuel tabs they want to run in their
6:31
stoves, and you don't have to use them with an Esbit stove, there's a lot of other different types of stoves out there, like the canteen stands, like the other fellows were showing
6:42
those work really well with those. The nice thing about the Esbits are, the stoves themselves, because they're so low, that the
6:50
flame is really close. Now of course that Dura Flame is putting out a lot more flame, but as you notice, it's
7:33
putting out a lot more smoke, and that is a big no-go if you're trying to be stealthy
7:42
hide your position, you don't want people to know what you're doing, that's going to
7:46
alert people to your whereabouts. So if I had this, I would definitely want to be in a safe spot
7:53
That Dura Flame is really kicking out the fire, so I mean, you know, as an emergency
7:58
fire starter, it's awesome, that's what you want, but to cook on, with the smoke, that
8:04
may not work. Of course the Esbit puts out very little smoke at all, if none, it smells a little bit more
8:15
And then that Kuglin's tab is very similar to the Esbit, I think it's pretty similar
8:24
makeup as far as what it's made of. What you don't have is a bigger flame, it's a smaller tab, so I would definitely probably
8:38
do two or three tabs on an Esbit tray. What I forgot to do, what I forgot to do is try one of these new tabs, and Bear gave me
9:27
this, and he just got these off of Amazon, and I'll put the name down below in the caption
9:38
These are quite a much bigger than the Kuglin's, and I would say they're close to the Esbit
9:50
in size, just a different shape. Let's see how that's going
10:03
Yeah, so that's another smokeless option, I think these are probably some kind of Esbit
10:09
knockoff, like another company's making them, just like the Kuglin's is. I can tell already, that's putting out much more flame than the Esbit. Esbit. Esbit
10:23
That's a bigger flame, it's taller. Alright, so that's pretty much burned out, and that is right around the same time as
10:45
the Esbit, a little bit longer, it's like 17 minutes, 18 minutes
10:50
The Kuglin's was right around 12, and then that Duraflame, that went much longer
10:58
That was close to, probably close to 20 minutes, I think. Alright, thanks for watching
