What does adultery mean in Islam? Adultery is defined as sex between a married person and another person who is not their legal partner, that is, their husband or wife, this is recognized as an illegal sexual relationship under the crimes of hudud, this in Islam, Allah and His Messengers Gods have specifically prohibited adultery, this is evident in various verses used in holy texts such as the Qur'an and Hadith. Islamic law recognizes two types of sexual relations as pure and therefore legal; one is between husband and wife and the other between husband and his concubine, in any case or any other sexual relationship is recognized as illegal and is translated as a sin, these sexual relationships publicly recognized as illegal are called zina, this translates immorality into the Arabic language. The holy book of the Qur'an specifically forbids adultery and it prescribes the punishment for those who commit adultery, as Qur'an 24:2 describes: "To those who commit adultery, male and female, give each one 100 lashes", this punishment is known openly as flogging. Sinners are forgiven if they repent; this before being caught by Islamic justice, however God's forgiveness is not for those who are persistent sinners.
