The Albufera natural park in Valencia is located just seven miles outside the city and can be reached by public transportation (€1.50 each way). Over 50 hectacres, there is plenty to do if you love nature. Canoeing from the nearby towns to get upclose to the birds and marsh vegetation, hiking and biking trails and even campground sites.
Paella, the national dish, originated from the rice fields that can be found in Albufera and there are plenty of restaurants that serve this delicious dish, either seafood ones, or the original with rabbit and chicken, and sometimes snail. For sure, this won't be the last time at this nature park in Valencia. We were pressed for time so we didn't find any places open. Paella is eaten for lunch in Valencia and so most restaurants shut down after lunch.
