Good morning, Husker fans and welcome back to the Husker Big Red YouTube channel
0:04
I'm Chris Peterson and joining me as always is Danny Gillette. We're back here on a Wednesday morning
0:08
We're talking some Nebraska Cornhuskers. We have Transfer Portal for football and basketball
0:13
Some spring talk. We'll talk a little bit, talk a little trash maybe about Coach Prime and what's going on
0:18
over there at Colorado. But before we get into all that, please make sure that you guys like the podcast
0:24
Make sure that you subscribe to it so you don't miss any of our future content. Like the video
0:28
Let us know what you think in the comment section. We definitely appreciate all your feedback and Danny, how are you doing this morning, man? Good
0:34
I'm so thrown off. I mean, on the left side of the screen right now, I keep looking over at you thinking that's
0:38
me, but I'll get used to it eventually. Other than that, I'm doing good. We'll get there eventually
0:42
Yeah, you know, we had a lot of stuff happening this week with Nebraska basketball
0:49
So let's start there, man. Then the Transfer Portal Hall, Fred Hoiberg doing some work
0:54
Raleigh Wooster, we talked about him a little bit on Monday. He committed to the Huskers later on Monday, actually
1:01
And then yesterday, another visitor over the weekend, Gavin Griffiths from Rutgers
1:05
You talked about him a lot, Danny. We got some stuff at HuskerBigRed.com if you want to find out some more information on
1:10
what we think. But I love this pickup. I love both of them, actually. But what are your thoughts on Nebraska's new starting backcourt is what I'm going to call them
1:18
It's interesting because people were kind of down on, you know, the commitments
1:23
But, you know, as far as Griffiths is concerned, I did a lot of watching of his tape on him
1:29
He's a very solid player in terms of being able to score in bunches
1:34
And on top of this, you know, and as I wrote yesterday, he was only a freshman last year
1:41
So there's a lot of room to grow for him. And the upside is incredibly high
1:47
Is he the, you know, five-star recruit that, you know, is going to make an instant splash
1:52
No, I don't think so. But I do think there's a lot of potential there. He was a former four-star recruit, you know, at the high school level
1:59
And now he comes to Nebraska and, you know, kind of gives them a player that can, you
2:08
know, score in bunches. He does okay from the three-point line, I believe
2:15
And he's a guy that can really kind of help stabilize the program as, you know, they continue
2:23
to make changes and mix and match. And for Wooster, you know, I think he's more of the traditional point guard that Nebraska
2:32
basketball has needed because he really didn't have one last year. And, you know, I think that even though, you know, he may not be, again, the big splash
2:42
that everyone was hoping for, I could see where he fits. And also, an interesting note, Jermarcus Lawrence is headed to my neck of the woods and is going
2:52
to URI, University of Rhode Island. So I'm wondering if, you know, he left on his own accord or if Coach Hoiberg told him
2:59
to leave because to me, that's a little bit of a step down. Yeah, I don't know
3:04
I'd have a hard time imagining that Fred would want him to leave. But I mean, in the NCAA basketball, it's, you know, the conferences and all that stuff
3:13
I think, is a lot different, too, because if you get on a small program, I mean, they're
3:18
in what, the A-10? Yeah, I believe so, yep. I mean, you could still make a run there
3:22
I mean, I remember Lamar Odom when he was there, you know. So I mean, in basketball, I think it is a little bit different because, like, you can
3:28
still get to the tournament with one of those teams, whereas opposed to, like, you know, if you go to a boy
3:32
I mean, I guess you can still make the playoff now that it's 12 teams. But yeah, but that is a little surprising that he kind of took that step down
3:39
But sometimes when you go into the portal, you know, there's not quite the, you know
3:42
interest that maybe you thought there was going to be. The portal isn't as always as it seems
3:47
The grass isn't always greener, maybe. But at the same time, I think it probably, you know, isn't far-fetched to say that Jamarcus
3:54
Lawrence was going to have a tough time starting an uphill battle starting next season because
3:57
look, he's not a point guard. I mean, he played a little bit of point guard last year
4:01
It didn't work out that great. He can do some of it. He's more of a combo guard
4:06
And Nebraska needed a point guard, but then they also needed, you know, a three-point shooter to replace, you know, Tominaga
4:10
And that's also not Jamarcus Lawrence. So I think that that's where, you know, it just didn't necessarily fit what he saw himself
4:17
being next season. And his vision was probably different than Fred Hoiberg's
4:21
But as far as Gavin Griffiths, I love this. I love this pickup. He's actually the second highest rated player to ever play for Nebraska in terms of the
4:30
24-7 sports rankings. Only Bryce McGowan's is rated higher. He was 44th overall in the 2023 class
4:37
And I get he only scored like, I think, five points a game last year
4:41
Made one three-pointer per game. Shot 28 percent from three-point range. But that was his freshman season
4:45
There's a lot of guys that take a big leap from, you know, their freshman year to their
4:49
sophomore year. Go look at Kobe Bufkin, who, you know, eventually became a first-round pick at Michigan his
4:53
first year. He was terrible. I mean, he was inefficient, didn't shoot the ball well
4:56
So there's a lot of growth that happens from that first year to that second year
5:00
And Griffiths is that kind of guy who has the talent to eventually be an NBA player
5:05
but not quite ready to be the one and done. But that guy can be a spectacular player in college
5:11
And I think this is a huge win for Fred Hoiberg because he has the talent, I think, that K
5:17
Satoma Nagata does. He's a different player, but he has that type of ability
5:21
Plus, he's six-foot-eight, so he does bring some defensive ability, too. His defensive, you know, plus-minus and his defensive win share was actually higher than
5:30
his offensive last year. So I do think that he's going to bring some shot blocking, some length
5:36
You know, that can, I mean, you talk about using like one-three-one zones and stuff like that
5:40
Nebraska's very long now with Gary, Bryce Williams, and Gavin Griffiths, like at that
5:44
two-three-four spot, potentially. And so I just think the upside is there
5:48
And then Wooster, I love his game. Nebraska has needed a defensive-minded guard really badly with size
5:54
I mean, because Sam Hoiberg's a good defender, but, you know, he's only like six-one or six-two
5:58
I mean, Raleigh Wooster is six-four. So now if you've got, if you're playing a team that's got a good point guard and, you
6:05
know, a good two guard, Nebraska can actually defend them now man-to-man, whereas before
6:09
you know, they had nobody that they could put on like a Terrence Shannon. Now Raleigh Wooster can take him
6:13
Raleigh Wooster can also take Evan Taylor. And he can also average over five assists per game
6:19
Beyond that, the one weakness, you look at his game, is the shooting percentage. You know, 29% three-point shooting for his career
6:25
I've seen this guy play in person. His stroke is fine. He shoots over 70% from the free throw line
6:31
And I think under Fred Hoiberg, we're going to see that percentage take up. I think we're going to see that with Gavin Griffiths
6:36
And you're going to see that shooting coaching ability I've talked about with Fred Hoiberg
6:40
I think is going to make these two additions even better than they look on paper
6:44
And I'm not really too worried about Wooster's shooting percentage anyway, because as long as you have a guard that can facilitate the offense and, you know, kind of direct all
6:53
the moving parts, the quarterback of the offense, then you can live with maybe an inconsistent
6:58
shooting percentage. And, you know, we, like you said, we haven't had a true, you know, guard or point guard
7:05
excuse me, in quite some time. And I think he definitely brings that to the table. So even if he's not the best shooter, I'm OK as long as he knows how to, you know, facilitate
7:14
an offense and kind of be the leader in that way. Yeah, it's going to be, you know, exciting, I think overall
7:21
And, you know, I think he's going to be a great fit in his in the Fred Hoiberg system
7:26
And now if, you know, if Rinkmast is decides to come back, I think that's the last kind
7:30
of missing piece. But I think there's a good chance that your starting lineup is going to be, you know
7:35
Rinkmast, Juwan Geary, Bryce Williams, Gavin Griffiths and Raleigh Wooster. I think that makes a lot of sense
7:41
You've got Andrew Morgan who could come off the bench, Sam Hoiberg who can come off the bench
7:46
So right there, you've got, you know, that that seven man rotation, you know, if Mast is back, you know, we haven't heard any confirmation on that
7:51
So, you know, don't want to get it put the cart, you know, before the horse
7:55
But that top seven, I feel pretty good about that. You still need to add, you know, a wing, some wing depth
8:00
You need more three point shooting and you need a couple more bigs, but you've got four open scholarships
8:04
And I think that they're in some good conversations there. So, you know, it looks like Freddie Portal has done it again
8:12
He'll always bring up his high school recruiting too. And I'm not too worried about that either, because part of me, like for college basketball
8:20
you don't want to rely on all freshmen and things like that. And the freshmen that we do have, you know, namely Nick Janowski, you know, I've been
8:27
you know, hyping him up for quite some time. You know, there is a solid, you know, couple of players recruited from the high school ranks
8:35
But I think, you know, as long as you have found that the, you know, Portal formula is
8:39
working, why go away from it? And, you know, I think Fred has shown he's been able to build rosters, especially the
8:46
last two seasons, and they've been able to fit together. And so I wouldn't really be too worried
8:52
You know, if his strength is the Portal, why go away from it
8:55
You know, and sure, high school recruiting is great. And, you know, he has gotten a couple of high school kids, you know, so far in the 2020
9:08
I believe 2025 class. But, you know, I think, you know, as long as he knows what his strengths are, which
9:16
is Portal recruiting, then that's fine with me. Yeah, and I think it just is different, you know, college basketball is so much different
9:24
to where one or two players, and it's such an old game right now. I think it is going to start getting younger now that this will be the last, you know
9:30
COVID year. And I feel like that for a lot of the sports too, like football too
9:35
Yeah, and Nebraska just hasn't been in a great position to high school recruit. So I think this latest class is probably the best that Fred's got, I mean, outside of McGowan's
9:43
but again, he didn't, you know, he by the time he would have been a really good player
9:47
he was in the NBA. So that's kind of the dichotomy of trying to do high school basketball recruiting, because
9:52
you don't, I really feel strongly that unless it's like a Zion Williamson type, you know
9:56
one of those true impact players, a lot of times, the five star guys don't give you the
10:01
impact that you think they're going to that first year. So, you know, a lot of that, a lot of those rankings and stuff and basketball more than
10:08
way more than football is about projecting, it's about what are you going to be at the next level
10:12
And that's what NBA teams are looking for. Not, you know, the best college players are rarely, you know, the first players picked
10:18
in the draft. And that's just that just shows, you know, how different those two games are. So at any rate, that's, let's move on to actually, I want to talk about some Deion Sanders talk
10:28
here, some Colorado. This is just crazy. And so I actually saw another article that relates this to Nebraska, but Deion Sanders
10:36
talking, you know, he doesn't want to go to, you know, do high school recruiting
10:41
Well, he's too famous to do high school recruiting. So, you know, if he shows up at a campus, then it's just, you know, forget about Nick
10:47
Saban or all these other coaches out there. But Deion's just too famous to go to high schools
10:51
But Matt Rule, of course, we know he's not afraid to go anywhere
10:56
Matt Rule has visited 108. This is according to the USA Today, Brent Schroetenbohr
11:03
That is a weird last name. Sorry if I mispronounced that. But Matt Rule has visited 108 high schools in several states and made 486 off-campus
11:13
contacts with potential recruits, including 123 this past December and January, according
11:18
to records from USA Today Sports. And this is in comparison to, by contrast, Deion Sanders has made zero off-campus recruiting
11:27
trips and hasn't visited any recruits away from Boulder. Zero, as in none, since he was hired in early 2022 or December of 2002. Sorry
11:38
That is baffling to me. And what's even crazier, what even got me on this topic was how, you know, after Kormani
11:45
McLean went to the portal yesterday, the former five-star quarterback for the Buffaloes, they've
11:50
got Shadur Sanders and Shiloh Sanders on Instagram recruiting people. Shiloh Sanders, his Instagram post was like, offensive players message Shadur, defensive
12:00
players message me. And then they had a quote at the bottom that said in parentheses, this is not last chance
12:05
to you. And I'm like, buddy, if you have to say it's not last chance to you, it's last chance to you
12:12
However, Kormani McLean has already been in the transfer portal twice now. So I mean, you know, I just think McLean wants a big payday
12:19
But anyway, you know, that's just my opinion. But yeah, this is a joke. I mean, this is a joke
12:25
Sanders needs to recruit. Yes, he has a name that can carry, you know, weight with with younger players
12:32
And yes, he is a well-known figure, both in the NFL and NCAA ranks
12:38
But at some point, you need to recruit and you need to get up off your butt and do some work
12:44
And it shouldn't be, you know, just transfer portal recruiting. It should be high school recruiting
12:50
Show these kids that you're genuine. Show these kids that you have a plan for the future of the program
12:55
Show these kids that you're invested in them and that you're not just resting on your name
13:01
in order to try to, you know, win games and, you know, make and, you know, kind of make
13:07
a name for yourself in the coaching ranks. I mean, I don't agree with his approach at all
13:12
And it's not me. You know, it's not a black white thing or me being a hater. It's just it's not a winning formula at all
13:19
And people can say what they want and they love Deion Swagger. But you know, I'm happy with Matt Ruhle
13:25
And I think that if I had to choose between the two, like you kind of said a little bit
13:29
ago, I would go with Ruhle because Ruhle's putting the work in
13:33
He's making connections with kids specifically, you know, in the state of Nebraska as well
13:38
which is what was missing for the program over the past couple seasons
13:42
And he's showing that work ethic. And even if Matt Ruhle isn't hard to find, he's still busting his ass and trying to
13:49
work hard to get this program back where it needs to be. And Deion should take some notes
13:54
Yeah, it's, you know, I just that's crazy that he hasn't visited any recruits
13:58
I know that he hasn't done many, but the fact that he hasn't made one visit, that just tells
14:02
me he doesn't get it. I'm sorry. That's bad. That that's that
14:06
Yeah, I really there's no justification for that. And you're not going to just get
14:11
I mean, I understand, you know, trying to get guys from the transfer portal, but that
14:15
does not work. I mean, you can get you can get lucky in the portal
14:19
You can find some help in the portal. But if you're building your entire team in the portal, especially in football, that's
14:24
not going to work. You're just not. It just won't. I mean, I firmly believe that you have to build this thing from the ground up
14:31
And the teams that have the best culture, you know, that I've been that I mean, look at Georgia
14:35
How many play? How many times is Georgia going to the transfer portal for players? Rarely ever
14:39
I mean, it's like, yeah, if we need a position here or there, you know, same with Alabama
14:43
I mean, you know, say you can say the same about Michigan, Ohio State, all the big programs
14:47
They're not relying on the portal to be their number one. Well, yeah, it's a it's a supplement
14:53
You know, it's like, hey, we need a quarterback or we need this. And that makes sense
14:56
But and, you know, the but the idea that you can build your entire team off that that's
15:00
just not going to happen. So it's I really hope that we just destroy those guys
15:05
I mean, I'm ready for it. But I should hear Sanders and Travis Hunter are great players
15:09
So they still have some great players on their team. But the overall roster building that's going on there has not been great
15:16
So I don't know if I would even call it building. I don't know what it is
15:20
I don't know what he's doing. It's more like just a hodgepodge of, you know, just trying to put stuff together
15:27
And it's a joke. And, you know, again, I'm not hating because he's black
15:31
I'm not hating because, you know, he has swagger. I'm hating because he's not a good recruiter
15:38
And, you know, he's a so-so coach. And the second year will tell a lot
15:44
But this is not how you build a program. And quite honestly, I don't know if he's going to be around to see a full program build
15:52
So there's also that part of it. Yeah, it's going to be especially when when Shadur and Travis Hunter leave, like, well
15:58
there's no talent there. So I don't know, man, it's going to be wild stuff
16:03
The wide receiver into the portal to the three star receiver. I can't remember his name off top my head, but I can't get the portal to and he was an
16:13
impact player. And I don't know, the running back is good. But you know, and I'm not saying we should overlook him by any by any means, but we should
16:22
have won the game last year if Jeff Sims literally didn't pee down his leg the entire game
16:26
So I mean, you know, that's that there's that. At any rate, the defense Nebraska is going to feast on the Colorado offensive line
16:35
And yes, I believe the offensive line because I didn't think their defensive line was that
16:41
good Colorado's. So you know, I think that will be a pretty fair matchup for the Nebraska offensive line
16:47
And I mean, I don't know, I it's just I don't see Colorado going anywhere
16:54
And you can clip this quote this whatever. But I don't see it
16:58
Yeah, I'd be very surprised if they, you know, made a bowl game this year
17:02
I know they're going to the big 12. So maybe maybe it'll be a little easier schedule
17:07
But I think them getting six games will basically take a miracle
17:11
But we'll see. I've been wrong about plenty of stuff before. So we shall be confident in this one
17:18
So as far as Nebraska transfer stuff, not a lot to cover here
17:22
Corey Collier entered the portal. Eric Fields, those guys haven't been on the team haven't been on the roster, I guess this spring
17:28
So, you know, they kind of officially entered the portal, but it was coming. So I mean, not a not a big loss, but both of them came kind of highly talented, especially
17:35
Eric Fields. I mean, he was even getting mentioned by Matt rule last year about this time
17:39
So that's another reminder, like last year during this time, everybody was talking about
17:43
Eric Fields, never played a meaningful snap isn't on the team, you know, less than a year later
17:48
So don't don't overreact to what we're seeing right now. I gotta say the official announcements kind of tricked me a little bit yesterday because
17:54
I saw like Caden Proctor entered the transfer portal. I'm like, what didn't he announce like he's he's gone for like a third time already, but
18:00
it's official. These announcements are official and nobody's entering the transfer portal after a month
18:06
and but anyway, yeah, Eric Fields, you remember me being all excited about him and his film
18:13
And you know, he recorded 270 tackles over the span of two seasons at Ardmore High School
18:18
in Oklahoma. I thought he was going to have an impact in the linebacker room
18:23
He was going to he was going to be a focal point, I thought, due to his speed and but
18:31
it just never materialized. And, you know, that's that's just what it is
18:38
Same thing with Corey Collier. I mean, the safety room is very crowded
18:42
It wasn't crowded when Collier first got here. But part of building a program is making sure you have depth at all positions
18:49
Now Nebraska has a ton of safety depth and, you know, that's the other thing
18:53
You can never count on, you know, a player to be your top guy or count on a player to
19:00
be there. You always have to recruit and restock positions no matter how many you have each one
19:06
So I mean, Collier, I could definitely understand. I don't think he was going to see the field, especially with, you know, Caleb Benning coming
19:13
Samir Press got coming, you got Sean Singleton on the roster, Isaac Gifford this year
19:18
So those two transfers really made sense. There was really no surprise
19:23
Yeah, now I did a post yesterday at HuskerBigRed.com kind of previewing the portal and potential
19:30
needs for Nebraska. And I don't really see, you know, too many glaring needs
19:34
You and I kind of talked about it. I said, yeah, you know, if Surefire starting corner comes along or something, then I would
19:40
probably take that. I think Nebraska, you know, is pretty set just outside of, you know, maybe needing some depth
19:47
You can always you can always use more depth, like we've said, but I don't think there's a position, you know, looking at this team where I'm like, they need to go get a starter
19:53
right here right now in this position or they're screwed. So I don't know
19:56
What are your thoughts on? Yeah, no, I didn't. I didn't really see, you know, a position where I'm like, all right, they need to get
20:02
somebody here now. You know, maybe some, you know, I don't know, maybe more depth at edge because you could
20:11
always use as many edge rushes as possible, especially in this defense. But we don't need depth at edge
20:16
It's kind of nice to not have to freak out about depth at positions anymore and kind
20:21
of just say, oh, this would be nice, you know. But at the same time, you know, I think, like you said, there's a lot of talent at each position
20:29
And this is only over the span of, you know, a year and a half
20:33
It's not even a full program build yet. And already the Cupboard is stocked with, you know, opportunities for young players
20:41
and recruits and weapons. So I mean, I'm pretty happy with where the Nebraska roster sits, you know, coming into
20:49
spring ball and knock on wood. There haven't been too many injuries yet
20:55
And that is something that we struggled with in the past as well. So I mean, people can make fun because I see all the time, oh, they're wearing the goofy helmets
21:04
They look like aliens. Well, those are the concussion helmets and they're there for a reason and they work
21:09
So I mean, they're taking all the precautions necessary to try to keep everybody healthy
21:13
And so far, it seems to be working. And I'm excited for the spring game
21:18
Hopefully nobody gets gets hurt there. And then we can kind of transition to the 2024 season
21:25
Can you believe it? Yeah, it's it's wild that the Nebraska got their spring game
21:30
I do want to say, you know, Matt Rule said that he doesn't expect any players to leave
21:35
via the transfer portal. So we'll see if he's right about that. But I wouldn't be surprised
21:39
They didn't really have anybody leave during the the other transfer portal window
21:43
I mean, nobody that was surprising based on the depth chart. And I don't my prediction is I don't think that anybody that's on the two deep is leaving
21:51
the team. So, you know, and I don't my prediction is also I don't think they're going to make any additions
21:58
So, you know, I know that that's not exciting, but I think Matt Rule wants it to be, you know, a multi-year guy
22:03
And, you know, I just don't I just don't see it. I don't see a quarterback. And, you know, you can never say never and yet an edge or defensive lineman
22:10
I mean, if there's somebody that you're like, that's that's a dude, then go get him. But other than that, I really don't see it
22:16
So, you know, and the thing is, like, you know, yeah, like a core monument claim might be a guy you'd look at, but he's done all this different portaling
22:23
And the reality, though, is a player like that, whether it's him or somebody else, is
22:28
going to cost you a lot of money. So you're going to you're going to, especially right now, because it's like this is like
22:34
the last week of, you know, free agency. And this would be it would be like in the NFL, you know, you have that first wave of
22:40
free agency, you know, and there's all this crazy money spent. Yeah
22:44
Then it would be like if there was a second wave of free agency right after the draft, you know, where actually like there was good players going into it, but there was only
22:50
like a select few like the money would be even worse. And that's that's what we're looking at right now
22:54
So I don't think Nebraska needs to get into any bidding wars. If somebody falls into their lap. Sure
22:59
But I think the roster is pretty set right now. Yeah, I'm I'm I'm happy with where the roster sits
23:04
It's just about making sure everybody stays healthy and, you know, kind of kind of making
23:10
sure that everything goes smoothly at the spring game. No need for anything too crazy
23:16
Just get everybody out of there healthy. And, you know, I think part of the reason there were no transfers, you know, in either
23:22
cycle so far at this point is just that everybody fits so well
23:26
Like you, there's a there's a plan for everybody. There's a goal for everybody and the players can see it
23:31
And that's a testament to the recruiting job of this coaching staff. Yeah
23:35
And they're being developed. Matt Ruhl talked about that, you know, the development part of it when he was part of
23:39
when he was on bus and with the boys, you know, talking about the strength coaches
23:43
the conditioning, the nutrition people, all the things that Nebraska is trying to do to
23:47
help these guys be, you know, the best version of themselves, which, you know, in the at
23:52
the end of the day, for all these guys, they want to be in the NFL. I mean, that rule said, I'm not going to recruit if the guy doesn't have the potential to be
23:58
an NFL player. He shouldn't be at Nebraska. So every single guy on this team theoretically should have, you know, a path to the NFL
24:05
however slight it is. And I think that, you know, fostering that is a really good thing
24:09
We've seen a lot of great things over the spring. Is there anything that stood out to you
24:13
You know, with the open practice yesterday, I know we didn't get, you know, the quarterbacks as much, but any any other takeaways from the recent spring, you know, rumblings or
24:21
highlights from you, Danny? Well, I mean, again, I'll go back to the wide receiver room
24:26
I'm really excited about that room. And, you know, I'm really excited about, you know, the young talent and, you know, last
24:33
yesterday, Matt Rule said that Vincent Shavers, the freshman, you know, linebacker is making
24:40
a name for himself. And, you know, I think Shavers honestly is going to make a very big impact on the program
24:46
when it's his time. And, you know, it's good to hear that some of the freshmen are asserting themselves right away
24:52
And, you know, I'm really excited to see because that's just another piece that Tony White
24:57
can have on that defense. And, you know, when you have the ability to have a good freshman, but not have to rush
25:02
him into things and you can kind of develop him alongside an already strong, you know
25:09
defensive line and, you know, linebacker group, you know, that's even better
25:12
So the quote about Vincent Shavers just, you know, being noticed and, you know, playing
25:18
well really kind of stuck out with me because, you know, it just goes to show, you know
25:26
that this coaching staff can recruit well. And I always think back to some players recruited in previous staffs that had, you know, like
25:34
you kind of said earlier, did they have NFL potential? No. I mean, but when you look at a guy like Shavers and some of these freshmen, you know, I think
25:44
that they could as long as they continue to develop. So the fact that the freshmen are already turning heads is very, very promising to me
25:53
Yeah, I think it's promising too. I just overall, you know, I like that they, you know, at some certain positions linebacker
26:01
they don't really, you know, have a need there. They have a pretty talented room
26:05
I think the offensive line has been really getting after it. So that's been a really positive thing
26:10
The receivers, I was, you know, I was bummed to see Demetrius Bell on the injury report
26:15
as a guy who I think was held out of practice. It was in a green jersey
26:19
So it looked like Malachi Coleman wasn't one of the guys listed in a green jersey. So I do think that that's a positive thing
26:24
He's been practicing, but limited. So I could have, you know, read that wrong, but, or maybe he wasn't on the list, but at
26:30
any rate, those are a couple of injury notes, but not sure what's up with Demetrius Bell
26:34
but that is concerning a little bit. You know, I never want to see anybody get hurt or any, you know, missing
26:39
I never want to see guys missing practice. That's not, you know, that's just not, you're not getting better if you're not practicing
26:44
So something to watch there, but I think there's a lot of positive developments on both lines
26:49
and just excited to see, you know, the product next Saturday. And we haven't really, you know, heard how they're going to do that
26:56
I'm sure they'll, they'll divvy up the teams. It'll be a game like it was last year
27:00
Hopefully for the love of God, please do not thud tackle like Ohio State did with its starters
27:04
I mean, my goodness, how soft can you get? Like I just, like I said, I just, you're not challenging your running backs
27:10
Like I want to see if you're thud tackling, then you're doing a disservice to your, not
27:15
only your offensive line and your defense, but your running backs. Like you learn that you can't evaluate a running back unless they're actually getting tackled
27:20
to the ground. So, you know, I think that that, you know, is just ridiculous
27:24
And I don't think we'll see that. Nebraska is going to be very physical
27:28
They're very intentional about it. And I can't wait. It's going to be a lot of fun. Yeah, it is going to be a lot of fun
27:34
It's going to be an opportunity for Troy Dunnan to kind of take in his first spring game too
27:38
That's going to be exciting. And, you know, I think there's going to be a lot of interesting positions to watch
27:44
Granted, the spring game doesn't tell everything. You and I were over the moon about Jeff Sims after last year's spring game
27:51
So we'll see how that worked out. But, you know, I'm just excited that, you know, we get to see this iteration of the team
28:01
I mean, this is the class. And I've said this since last year, the 2024 class is going to be the defining class of
28:07
Battle Royale's tenure. And now we're going to get to see them on the field. Yeah, it's going to be a lot of fun
28:13
