hey Husker fans welcome back to the Husker Big Red YouTube channel i'm Chris Peterson and joining me as always is my co-host James Gillette and we're back
0:07
here for another episode of the podcast and we have another game to preview in the Crown we have some recruiting buzz
0:13
to go over and also a lot of transfer portal rumblings for Nebraska basketball so we're going to cover all of that
0:18
stuff here today um before we get into that hit the like button hit the subscribe button get into the comments section danny how are you doing on this
0:25
Wednesday morning i'm doing good we got a lot of news to cover the crowns tonight for basketball like you said and
0:30
uh never a never a relaxing moment uh when when you're covering Nebraska
0:37
sports but I like it that way there is a lot going on and uh like I've said I've been fully invested in the crown and
0:44
Nebraska is one step closer to wearing the crown of the crown after getting a
0:49
win on Monday night um against Arizona State i know Arizona State had a
0:54
terrible record and all that stuff but like I've been saying they were ranked 71st in the Ken Palm rankings and so you
1:01
know they weren't a terrible team and they did jump out to an eight 10-point lead on Nebraska of course Nebraska hadn't played for three weeks and
1:07
certainly looked like it for much of the first half but man they they sparked um the defense sparked some things in the
1:13
second half i thought Kale Jacobson was spectacular i don't know if Nebraska wins that game honestly without him you
1:18
know he forced a couple of those steals found Dwan Garry um in transition then hit Connor Aunan um for some transition
1:25
threes because that's really where you know Arizona State um kind of struggled was with turnovers and transition
1:31
defense and I thought that's where Nebraska turned it around so uh Kale Jacobson might get some more run tonight i mean why not and he's a sophomore
1:38
right and so he has he has room to grow uh over the next couple seasons and we keep talking about pieces for next
1:45
season we're going to lose a lot um with the departures of Jawan Gary and Bryce Williams but now we turn to who is going
1:52
to be an impact player next season and you know Kale Jacobson could you know really find a solid role we we we've
1:59
talked about bench depth right and you know Kale Jacobson could be a very very solid bench player especially if he
2:06
keeps this up and you know to me watching him on Monday night was very encouraging for the future yeah i mean
2:14
you know former walk-on and and maybe he could take the Sam Hoyberg route you know where uh where Sam kind of you know
2:20
people thought like oh it's just kind of nepotism like no he just kind of makes plays and it just got to the point where
2:26
like every time he was out there he was doing something good enough to to stay out there and maybe that's what Kale J I
2:31
mean Kale Jacobson scored two points in that game but he had a massive impact i mean I think he had like three steals
2:37
and five assists so that's not I mean he was bringing the ball up the court at times and that's not something you know
2:43
that I thought was going to was going to happen i really didn't think that that was in his wheelhouse i didn't know much about him i've hardly ever seen him play
2:50
because you know looking at his entire career um you know he averaged 2.8
2:55
minutes last season and 4.6 minutes this year so you know not really playing a ton of basketball um he had 55 so like
3:04
you know basically 120 minutes on the court you know leading into uh Monday night's game so kudos to him because he
3:10
really provided a spark for this team conoran had seven field goals he made uh
3:16
you know I think scored 17 points in the second half so I mean he was huge and I thought he did a good job not just settling for three-point shots and then
3:23
of course Bryson and Jawan Gary did what they do um so I feel good about where
3:28
they how they performed and I just kind of feel like uh you know getting getting
3:33
that first postseason win is always the toughest one to get and um you know they they had some struggles but now that
3:39
they've got into it I feel like they have a much better chance to play well tonight and and one final note that's
3:45
really interesting this is from from uh the social media account Pavvelk's fat uncle who I love is kind of a fun follow
3:52
if you're a Nebraska basketball fan but he pointed out that Monday night was Nebraska's fifth just the fifth
3:57
postseason tournament win um in the in the basically in this century in this uh since the 2000s um so I mean that's you
4:05
have uh that's pretty crazy you look at the best Nebraska postseason teams of all time is he had a whole list of the
4:11
1996 team which won five games in the NIT the 87 team which won four and the
4:17
1983 team which won three so if Nebraska wins tonight um they'll join the 04 and
4:22
the 97 teams is uh you know to basically uh so they would be one of six Nebraska
4:27
basketball teams that's won multiple games in the postseason so I know people are kind of you know rolling their eyes
4:32
at this but I still think based on the history of this program it's still meaningful for Nebraska and and like I said before I
4:40
think it's meaningful for guys to kind of carve out their roles for next season like if we if we can get the Connor Agen
4:48
uh that we saw on Monday night um in a starting role next season then that's definitely encouraging um and you know a
4:55
guy like Jacobson who makes the most of his minutes he could see a bench roll a
5:02
sizable bench roll next season and you know I thought I thought Monday night you know it was a really good indication
5:09
of where this team you know could be and when you look at at you know how the
5:15
roster will be constructed next year and then you have you know the freshman like
5:20
Nick Junowski and uh Braden Frasier um you know I think this team has the
5:27
pieces to be successful it's just going to be about putting them together yeah and uh looking to um we'll talk
5:34
about what this team's going to look like here in a second with some transfer portal news and what how that could shake shape uh shape the roster next
5:41
season but let's focus on Georgetown for just a second um you know they knocked
5:47
off Washington State uh the other night 85 82 and kind of a high-scoring game there 18 and 15 now and what's
5:53
interesting about Georgetown is you know this you know I we talked about like you know this this tournament to me reminds
5:59
me of like you know non-playoff bowl games and motivation well for Georgetown they had singledigit win seasons each of
6:05
the past three years so they've like doubled their win total from a year ago um Ed Coulie is in his second season so
6:11
this is kind of an important tournament for them however at at the same time they're without two of their their three
6:17
top scorers who I'm assuming just opted out i don't I didn't even check into it i just know they're not playing in this tournament um but Malik Mack is playing
6:24
in this tournament he hit eight three-pointers on uh on Monday night um they hit 13 as a team which is you know
6:32
somewhat concerning to me because we all know Nebraska kind of struggles with the three-point defense um but Georgetown
6:38
this year has not been you know a great defensive team they are ranked still in the top 100 in the Ken Palm rankings they're um I think 86 nebraska's in the
6:45
top 50 now which is kind of crazy but they're actually ranked higher than um teams that got at large burst into the
6:52
NCA tournament um so just you know it is what it is but yeah there's there's
6:57
quite a few teams that got at large burst that are ranked behind Nebraska and the Ken Bomb so um we'll see how
7:03
this goes if they win if Nebraska wins tonight they'll probably end up playing Boise State who's 47th so I mean getting to that that semi-final game should be
7:09
pretty good if if Nebraska can get there um Villanova who won last night um they're 52 in the Ken Palm rankings and
7:16
Cincinnati's 51 i didn't check if they won um I didn't follow up on the full bracket but um I think that the Crown
7:23
does have a lot of exciting teams um this Georgetown matchup though is one I think Nebraska should be able to take
7:29
advantage of like I just don't see how they don't you know win this game i've been looking for a spread i didn't
7:34
didn't see one um but I just yeah I mean looking at Georgetown especially without some of their best players I mean they
7:40
turn the ball over quite a bit they're not a great shooting team um even when they had other guys they were 292nd in
7:47
the country in three-point percentage so I mean I know they hit 13 the other night but that seems more like a one-off
7:53
although you know quite a few teams have had oneoff three-point performance though what are your What do you think
7:59
about Georgetown i'll let you get a word in here i think Georgetown you know he's a um Ed is a very solid coach he
8:06
actually coached a lot here in Massachusetts starting at at UMass Dartmouth and you know I honestly
8:12
remember him as an assistant at Boston College um you know around the mid 2000s
8:17
and then of course he he built the Providence basketball program from 2011
8:23
to 2023 so he had a lot of success there as well so I have tremendous respect for
8:28
um Coach Culie and you know when you look at this Georgetown team they're
8:33
scrappy and they can shoot the basketball so there's like you said there's always a worry uh when Nebraska
8:40
faces a shooting team um but I think this game could end up being really
8:45
close i think if Nebraska can get another night like they did from a
8:52
season last night or not even a season but just get that third scoring option rolling then I think they could be in
8:58
good shape it's about you know Bryce Williams and Juan Gary have been able to
9:04
take over games but it's always been you know when Nebraska is at their best it's finding that third guy that can do the
9:11
same like for example uh Berky Boy Catunel against Ohio State we talked about his you know big game uh in that
9:18
one and you know his third his you know the the additional scoring really helped
9:24
him or excuse me really helped Nebraska kind of get over the hump and I think as
9:30
long as Nebraska has that third score they should be okay
9:35
and so yeah I I definitely agree i think um you know CJ needs to do a good job you know shooting the three um and and
9:42
forcing turnovers i think Nebraska is going to have a good chance to try to force some turnovers and get out in transition when they can get out and get
9:48
some easy buckets in transition especially for Jawan Garry that seems like you know a big deal for um for him
9:55
for his game offensively just hasn't been shooting the ball well lately and I think he's just I think he's just tired i mean he had those two threes in the
10:01
second half the the one that didn't hit the rim and the one that barely hit the rim and to me it's just it's just a sign of fatigue and him and Bryce I think
10:08
although they they should they didn't play for a few weeks so they should be a little bit better but I think they they've just played a lot of minutes
10:14
this season um so yeah what's interesting is you look at this bracket and uh for the crown so Cincinnati and
10:22
Central Florida won yesterday as well as Villanovavva and USC so if you look at the Ken Palm rankings um Georgetown's
10:29
actually the lowest rated team still in the tournament um so you got Boise State who's like um 47th against Butler who's
10:36
75th so Nebraska will play the winner of that game if they beat Georgetown tonight and then on the other side
10:42
you've got UCF which is uh 69th so they're pretty high up there they're playing Cincinnati is 51 and then uh
10:49
Villanova which is 52 against USC which is number 58 so I mean I know I know
10:54
that this tournament feels a little like you know I don't I'm not sure the word um that I was looking for uh but I I
11:01
like it i like that this I like this format i like the power five yeah thrown together not Yeah thrown together a
11:08
little bit but um I think that the way that they've organized it and run it I like it a lot better than the NIT
11:13
because I mean that happens over a three-week period you know where I feel like right now um I'm focused on
11:18
basketball and this week I do want basketball and they've got you know all these games you know four games back
11:24
toback of you know pretty quality teams i know they're not NCA tournament teams but I also do feel like it's worth
11:30
reminding people that there are 364 teams that play division one college basketball so you know if you're one of
11:36
the hundred or so teams that are playing in the postseason you're still in the top third of it so I mean there's a lot of good teams that you know are sitting
11:42
at home right now and um I'm happy Nebraska is still playing and it would be great man if they could win this game
11:49
then they'd have to you know likely play Boise State and then maybe like Cincinnati or Villanova or USC so all
11:55
I'm saying is that the the road to get to this championship is going to be if they do win it they're going to have to
12:01
beat four teams in a row ranked in the top 86 of the Ken Palm rankings so that's a big achievement no matter what
12:07
the tournament's called yeah for sure and you know USC gave us trouble when we played them in January so it's not like
12:14
you know these are bad basketball teams these aren't good teams and I know I'd like to pay them back for that loss too
12:19
oh I mean that when you look back on it that loss kind of didn't change the
12:25
trajectory of the season but it was a big loss like when you kind of look back on things and um yeah I know I know for
12:32
a lot and even for me sometime you know it's hard to feel excited about this tournament but the quality of play for
12:40
these uh games for all teams has honestly kind of impressed me
12:46
yeah I think it's I I think it's a reflection of how strong these conferences are too that sometimes you know you might not have the best record
12:52
but that's because hell man like look at the Big 10 almost every team in the in the league is ranked in the top 100 and
12:58
if you're playing a lot of top 100 teams on the road like you're going to lose some games if you're not you know a if
13:03
you're not a top 30 team so um yeah I I like it i think it's going to I think it
13:09
probably has and already will surpass the NIT i think the NIT will become the new mid- major tournament and this will
13:14
be you know the the high major postseason tournament and I'm fine with that i think it's a you know I like it i
13:20
I didn't think that I didn't think I would like it as much as I did and and maybe it's just because Nebraska's here
13:26
that I'm more into it but I I do like all the power five kind of matchups though and you look at the you look at
13:32
the Ken Palm rankings and like these are quality teams so and um you know USC is trying to build something villanova
13:38
obviously is getting a new head coach so I mean they're just kind of you know here trying to play out the string but but still you know they still have guys
13:44
that are going to be there next year though and um you know Cincinnati UCF Boise State I mean when's the last time
13:51
Boise State won anything in basketball so um I can't even remember you know so there's a lot of teams that have it and
13:57
I could say a lot about say the same thing about the other teams too so and it can be a you know a springboard teams
14:04
that have won the NIT or or whatever you know they've used that as a springboard to success so maybe Nebraska could win
14:10
this tournament and uh try to get into the NCA tournament next year so on that note let's talk about what's been
14:15
happening in the transfer portal um actually before we do that let's uh what's your prediction for tonight
14:20
finally sorry I skipped the prediction part but No you're right um I'm going to
14:26
say Nebraska 83 and then Georgetown 76
14:31
nebraska will pull away late yeah I'm going to say Nebraska um let's say 82 to
14:37
Yeah 74 like in Nebraska we'll win i haven't seen a spread yet but I I would have to think Nebraska's going to be
14:43
favor they're hard to find honestly for this tournament so yeah it's interesting that in Vegas that they don't have the a
14:48
spread for a game that's you know in college basketball sometimes they don't come until the same day but um I would
14:55
think uh Nebraska would be favored in this matchup and they should you know they should win this game i mean really
15:01
if they I would be disappointed if they lost this game but um like I said Georgetown they haven't been in the
15:07
postseason for a while so they're they're definitely going to be uh hungry and they're playing some guys that like
15:12
are talented that haven't that haven't got to play as much because some of their older guys are gone so I mean you can look at it like it's also kind of
15:19
hard to judge this Georgetown team because some of these stats that you know I'm I'm reeling off like oh 292nd
15:24
and three-point percentage well that's like you know different guys playing i mean that's that you have three guys that don't you know that aren't playing
15:31
in this tournament that played quite a few minutes for these guys like Drew Fielder is one we mentioned him as a as a potential target in the transfer
15:37
portal micah Peavey um Jade Ep so you know it's just a it's a whole different
15:42
uh it's a whole different team you've got guys that are like actually really strong recruits too um is one of them
15:49
curtis Williams is a top 100 recruit and you know he got a lot of play um he was one for 10 from the three-point line the
15:55
other night so hopefully it plays like that again this just kind of it's hard to judge this Georgetown team because it's a whole new team and uh these guys
16:02
are hungry trying to carve out their roles for next season so um I think the same thing could be said about Nebraska
16:08
you know there are roles to be carved out for next season and we were just talking about it off air but um you know
16:15
this is this could be like you just said a good springboard for this program to see where they're at and what other
16:20
areas they need to address and yeah and somebody that I've been watching really close is uh you know
16:25
Berky um you know Bua Katonsel i you know he's somebody I'm really high on his upside you know going into next
16:32
season and so um looking at the transfer portal now and how that could all fit together um we got a positive update
16:39
from um Robin Washut of Husker online who has predicted price Stanford to
16:45
commit to Nebraska i've saw some rumblings on uh from some other social media accounts but nothing like reliable
16:50
or verifiable but after his uh visit to Illinois he canceled the visit to Ohio
16:57
State and uh you know Robin's usually pretty reliable on his predictions he
17:02
said uh a commitment could come at any time so I mean to me this would be a massive get um I'm not saying that you
17:09
know Price Sanfort's going to you know change the program or anything like that i just think if you're talking about
17:14
upgrading the three-point shooting which is something that Fred Hoyberg really wanted to do um you know that's a way to
17:20
do it and um you know he scored about nine points just under nine points a
17:25
game last year in the Big 10 um shot 40% from three so you know thinking about
17:31
that only 2.9 rebounds per game but he only played 22 minutes so you know he could play more minutes um you know not
17:39
obviously not a great defender but it's it's hard to also judge some of those numbers because Iowa's just known as a
17:44
terrible defensive team so I feel like you know your your defensive numbers are going to look bad no matter who you are
17:51
playing for Iowa you know if you're judging it by like just you know points allowed per possession type deal so and
17:57
and you look at how he could fit with um rink mast and then Berky if you have him
18:03
as like your three I think which would which would fit in really well although maybe Marqu Sutton could be in that role
18:08
too he's also been a guy Nebraska's been targeting but um but yeah I agree i agree um but Sanfort
18:17
man you get then you've got your front you know if you include him in your front court with Berky and rank mass
18:22
you've got three guys who can shoot the heck out of the ball a true floor spacer and um I the way I look at it you've got
18:28
two bigs who you can use in ball screen situations who can you know be pick and pop type players who could even um you
18:36
know kind of have that high low game i mean remember the high low you know that uh like Rink used to like Rink's a
18:41
really good passer and I feel like Rink and Berky berki's a pretty good passer too honestly he's pretty skilled player
18:47
um so I definitely feel like he didn't put his best foot forward this season and I I feel like he still just hasn't
18:53
you know reached his potential and if he could do that next year with rank mass you get Price Sanford that's a pretty
18:58
good um you know starting point conor Ajan um Nick Janowski like you said Braden Frager um Sam Hoyberg still some
19:06
spots open but um I think that Price Sanford would be a massive addition to
19:11
kind of start off the transfer port for Nebraska and I know you said he's not necessarily a program changer but I do
19:17
think he helps elevate the program a little bit i think his addition you know
19:22
with his experience his ability to shoot the basketball I do think he could be a factor in terms of you know getting over
19:30
the hump to the NCA tournament in that in that respect so he would be a big pickup and you know I always take these
19:39
predictions with a little bit of you know a grain of salt but um you know if we were able to land Sanford then I
19:45
would feel a lot better about this roster yeah absolutely i would too and um one
19:51
of the biggest things is this team needs more three-point shooting and uh Sanford would be um a huge addition for that and
19:57
like you think about you could play with uh San Fort and Connorian on the floor at the same time i mean think about that
20:04
from a defensive perspective and how much spacing you know that would open up in the middle of the floor so um I like
20:10
that idea another really interesting player Jammarcus Lawrence the former Husker entered the portal this week
20:15
nebraska has reached out to him um he told Robin Wut that there's a chance he could come back to Nebraska they have to
20:22
have more conversations i I really do think you know there's a lot of familiarity here i think he left because
20:27
he wanted to have a bigger role um with way with Rhode Island and he did i mean he played 28 minutes last year compared
20:34
to the 23 minutes he played with Nebraska so he did have a bit of a bigger role but um you know averaged 9.9
20:40
points per game a lot of fans I've seen have like don't bring him back but I think this would be a great move um I
20:45
think you know just coming gonna come down to like what the role would be but you know whether he's your starting point guard or you know a combo guard I
20:52
think he's just a really versatile piece he could be an offguard um you know he could he could allow you to get maybe a
20:58
point guard that's not you know focused on being a playmaker but more of like a scoring point guard because uh you know
21:04
Jamal Lawrence does average 2.5 assists per game he's averaged two point he's averaged over two assists each game in
21:09
each season of his career so he is a pretty decent playmaker i would say he's a plus defender and he shot 39% from
21:15
three so another you know another floor spacer and a guy who could kind of be that three and D type of guy who could
21:22
also be a ball handler for you and if I and if I recall correctly he was also very good at the mid-range jumper type
21:28
of game right he was a good mid-range shooter so good pull-up shooter and I know some fans don't want to bring him
21:34
back i would love to bring him back i was very sad when he left because I thought his skill set actually fit this
21:40
offense pretty well and Nebraska's been missing a ball handler uh at the guard position for quite some time and I don't
21:48
know if he's necessarily a true point guard but he would be a step in the right direction there so I wouldn't mind a reunion at all depending on if he
21:55
would accept his role which we wouldn't necessarily know what that would be yet
22:00
yeah and um I think it would be I think he would probably start on this team um
22:05
to be honest that but yeah I could see that you know it's it depends what your you know what your point guard could But
22:11
um you could have some really interesting uh lineups now one guy who was off the board is Jaylen Jackson the
22:17
the Purdue Fort Wayne uh point guard um I think he went to Butler so he committed yesterday and then Nick Graves
22:24
is who's somebody I really wanted from Charlotte he's now visiting Kraton of course so it sounds like that's going to
22:30
happen but I thought but that's the kind of player Nebraska needs i think like a dynamic scoring uh point guard because
22:37
like that's the thing is is you know I Markwell Sutton too the Omaha forward who was the Summit league player of the
22:42
year he is holding a Zoom with Nebraska and I posted on Facebook like I think this would be a good replacement for
22:47
Bryce Williams and someone was like well he doesn't do what Bryce Williams done it's like well no I'm not talking you're not going to find the like forlike
22:53
replacement for Bryce Williams like that's like the chances of that happening are just very rare but I'm talking about like how do you how do you
23:00
replace that production of a volume score And Markwell Sutton even though he's not a great three-point shooter I
23:05
think could do that although he is kind of like a small ball four so I mean it would be interesting to see how he would
23:10
fit into the lineup especially like I don't think you could take him and Price Sanford like I just I mean you you
23:16
probably could but one of those guys is then probably going to have to come off the bench and so it's just like you know
23:22
do they want to do that it just seems like that'd be kind of tough that just would be kind of a tough sell I think
23:27
and with Berky that just seems like a lot of guys and rank mass honestly too yeah I mean it ideally it'd be great for
23:34
Nebraska like if somebody wanted to do that but um just seems just seems kind of unlikely but I could be wrong um and
23:42
then you look at the back court I feel like there's a lot of you know Connor Siean I think is going to be a guy there
23:48
um then you have Jamar you know obviously Sam Hoyberg Janowski and then um you try to get you know that point
23:54
guard so hopefully you know you can find kind of that scoring one but if you you know if you add um a Nick Graves like
24:00
that's that's somebody a dynamic scoring guard that could help could have helped replace you know some of the production
24:06
from Bryce Williams so that's what I'm looking at like get a guard like Jammarcus Lawrence and then you don't
24:11
have to find a point guard you don't have to focus so much on finding a playmaking point guard like go find a point guard who can fill it up that's
24:18
that's what I think would would be helpful for Yeah no I would love to have Lawrence back um I think he has all
24:23
those skills to fit again you know in this in this Fred Hyberg offense cuz I always thought he was a good fit for
24:29
this offense and his game is a little bit different than just your standard shooter he's more of a playmaker you
24:35
know drive to the rim attack the basket but I thought he fit this offense well so I wouldn't mind seeing a reunion
24:41
there and fingers crossed yeah and he's uh for his career he shot 47% um from on
24:48
two-point attempts so like you said he's a he's a more he's an effective scoreer on more than one level so um yeah keep
24:55
uh keep the eyes out there maybe we'll have a commitment from Price Sanford even before tonight's game um but if uh
25:00
if Nebraska was able to get Price and Jamarcus Lawrence I think that would be a really good start to their transfer portal um I get what it what they're
25:09
trying to do in the transfer portal that would be a great start so um with that in mind let's uh go to the final segment
25:14
today and some Nebraska football recruiting nuggets not a ton of stuff to talk about on the field we had uh you
25:20
know press conferences yesterday john Butler met with the media some players um not a ton of stuff though that we've
25:26
no haven't really already covered so we're going to focus a little more on recruiting um and the quarterback
25:31
position trey Taylor was just in for a two-day visit last week there was a lot of positive buzz we were both kind of feeling good about Trey Taylor and then
25:37
Nebraska offered Keegan Croucher on Saturday we talked about this a little bit on Monday but what do you think
25:43
Danny that means about um where Nebraska stands with Trey Taylor at this moment i
25:48
think there are other teams that are making a push for Taylor um bigger programs
25:54
and I felt good about Trey Taylor i know you felt good about Trey Taylor i think
25:59
Keegan Croucher means that Taylor may not be as much of a lock as we think cuz
26:05
these days you don't really take two quarterbacks in a class that's ideal in terms of roster building but with the
26:11
NIL era now you don't really do that anymore so you know I think other teams are going to make a
26:19
push for Trey Taylor like a Michigan or someone like that and you probably know a little bit better than me but I had
26:25
heard that other teams were making a push for him and so I I I feel like
26:30
Keegan Croucher's offers and recruitment should definitely get paid a little bit more attention now
26:38
yeah I know uh Michigan's definitely right there in the recruitment for Trey Taylor um I don't have any like intel
26:45
that says they're leading but I do think it was interesting that just the whole the way the whole thing kind of timeline
26:51
with Trey Taylor and the the Keegan Croucher offer because you had Keith Williams the Nebraska director player of
26:57
personnel who posted a gift of Dylan Rayola now this was the same day that Trey Taylor's visit ended okay so and
27:04
Keith Williams for context he does tweet tease a lot of commitments like he will usually post something when there's a
27:09
commitment so and the fact that he tweeted Dylan Raola obviously is a sign that it's Trey Taylor like it's not you
27:15
this isn't some deep detective dive here and so that made me think like you know is he are they feeling good about Trey
27:21
Taylor did they get somehow get a silent commitment from Trey Taylor like I I was really kind of pondering that and then
27:28
um they come out a little bit later and offer Keegan Croucher which doesn't necessarily mean that they're not going to get Trey Taylor but if you have a
27:34
silent commitment you know if you if Trey Taylor's like "Hey I'm coming here to Nebraska blah blah blah blah blah." You wouldn't turn around and offer
27:40
another quarterback in the same class a few hours later that wouldn't make sense and it also doesn't really jive with um
27:47
you know he posted that message Trey Taylor like "Hey follow Nebraska football to watch my decision." So you
27:53
know he definitely left it definitely felt like he hadn't made a commitment
27:58
yet and um I think that Keegan Croucher it's just kind of to have you know more eggs in in your basket and maybe it's a
28:05
maybe it's a ploy too to say "Hey Trey like if if you're not going to commit like we'll find another quarterback." They've done that before um you know
28:12
kind of putting pressure on kids and it's not the worst thing and but also Keegan Croucher has a little bit of a
28:17
different timeline he wants to decide I think more in the fall after his season so there was talk of him visiting like
28:23
for a football game for a fall game so I think it gives Nebraska the time to play out this recruitment with Trey Taylor
28:29
and then if it doesn't work they can you know take their shot with Keegan Croucher and right that's another thing too is like you look at Keegan Croucher
28:35
you know who is another team that's one of the leaders for him michigan so if Michigan gets Trey Taylor then boom
28:41
Keegan Croucher could be wide open for Nebraska they're playing this quarterback situation very well um you
28:47
know I and I I know that you and I have talked about this in previous years they were a little bit behind on the
28:52
quarterback recruiting um but now you know this kind of reminds me of the Dylan Raola Daniel Kalin situation back
28:59
in 2023 where you know they they let Kalin know that they were going to you
29:05
know try for Dylan Raola they still had Daniel Kalin committed at the time so it's about making sure that you're
29:12
not completely losing out on any quarterbacks whatsoever and making sure you don't have all your eggs in one
29:17
basket so um you know I really like both Croucher and Taylor um Croucher uh
29:24
played at Chesire Academy in Connecticut he transferred over there a couple years ago so that's a really good football
29:32
school u known for developing you know solid college quarterbacks so I like
29:37
that Nebraska is kind of putting the feelers out for multiple quarterbacks and that they're not necessarily behind
29:45
in the cycle and uh on that note they just hosted a 2028 quarterback Oscar Sloan so he's one
29:52
of the the top risers there so that's a good um good thing for them to get in on that class um some other recruiting news
29:58
Titan Davis uh the defensive lineman we've talked about him before um but an absolute beast out of St louis Missouri
30:05
6'5 238 lbs um edge um he's ninth he's the ninth ranked defensive lineman in
30:12
the entire class according to 247 the composite rankings and he's the 92nd ranked player overall so Michigan and
30:19
Alabama are the two other teams to get official visits but you know Nebraska's done a lot of recruiting um very well in
30:24
the state of Missouri in the St louis area so I I think they have a legitimate chance to get Titan Davis and um you
30:30
look at he's a beast yeah and some of some of the other official visits that have been scheduled um Jace Reynolds um
30:37
Isaac Jensen who just visited Florida State um the instate tight end Deacon Schmidt um Deceven Walker the running
30:43
back and Camden Jensen so Nebraska's got all those official visits set up june's June's starting to set up pretty well
30:49
for Nebraska football in the recruiting side of things battling another tight end for Florida State or Florida State
30:55
for another tight end seems like seems like Groundhog Day but no Nebraska has done a good job of setting up visits and
31:03
they've done a good job of making sure they making sure they offer these kids early i would rather offer a kid early
31:10
and have him go somewhere else because his profile is too high than to be
31:16
completely late on the kid and miss out on what could have been i mean I think we might fall into that situation with
31:21
CJ Brona he's still committed to Nebraska obviously but there's been a lot of traction in in his recruitment
31:27
from some top teams over the past couple weeks and we've seen his you know recruiting rankings uh really rise and I
31:36
know a lot of people don't take stock into those but it's certainly you know worth mentioning and um so yeah I'll be
31:41
interested just to kind of pivot here how Bron's commitment will continue to
31:47
kind of develop yeah every time he goes to a camp man he like runs a 439 or something and just
31:54
looks even more impressive so he did visit um a few schools recently unofficially he took visits to Florida
32:01
State to Florida to North Carolina he's also um you know gotten offered recently by like Penn State and Oregon so here
32:08
he's got an official visit set for Nebraska on June 6th but he's also officially visiting Florida he's from
32:14
Windmir Florida so I mean just to throw that out there he's also visiting Florida State and he's visiting Penn
32:19
State so it's going to be tough man it's going to be a tough one to keep he's he's the seventh ranked or the eighth
32:25
ranked player in the state of Florida right now according to 247 Sports so usually the best players in Florida go
32:30
to one of those Florida schools not all the time but I mean usually when it's like a top 10 kid it's hard to get him
32:35
away but we we'll see i mean Miami's been trying to work its way into the mix as well so um but the the the feather in
32:42
the cap for Nebraska they do have Philip Simpson and he's been you know they they he's been stellar they got Jaory Barney
32:48
Amari Sanders they got a bunch of dudes from Florida so um I'm not I'm not overly I'm not overly concerned but I'm
32:55
not like confident that he's going to stick it out either nebraska is going to have to you know win this recruitment again like
33:02
that's just that's just the bottom line and they have to keep winning this recruitment multiple times until signing day because the even even if he doesn't
33:09
flip this summer someone's going to try to flip him again in December so like they're just going to have to defend this commitment all the way up till
33:14
signing day that's just that's just the reality and I feel and I feel like you have to do that for pretty much all your commitments now in the transfer portal
33:21
era and the NIL era so yeah I mean I don't think it's anything new to this staff and um yes yeah CJ Brona is no
33:28
longer the secret he was when uh he committed to Nebraska that's for sure i was shocked that he was rated as low as
33:34
he was when he committed to Nebraska and now I think the rankings are starting to see that he's a damn good football player yeah i mean we're not always
33:41
right but sometimes sometimes we're right we were right about that one a broken clock is right twice a day yeah
33:48
well just I mean when you look at a I just was like I He had six interceptions in seven games and he runs 103 it's like
33:54
what am I missing here why yeah his speed i was like hm is there off the- field troubles like what is there injury
34:00
issues like what is going on i'm like is he playing in the worst like high school league in Florida history like what's
34:05
going on here so it's funny i know that's to a Florida kid like being rated that low running that fat like h Yeah so
34:12
um at any rate guys well that's all the recruiting nuggets that we have this week hopefully we will uh be one step closer to the crown tonight to taking
34:19
