hey folks welcome back to the Husker Big Red YouTube channel i'm Chris Peterson and joining me as always is Danny Gillette and we're back here on this
0:07
Thursday morning to talk about some of the recent moves flurry of moves made by Nebraska basketball so we're going to
0:12
break down some of these transfers we have three new additions one subtraction we're going to touch on all that and
0:18
then we're going to uh break down the Nebraska basketball depth chart and we'll see what we uh kind of foresee the
0:24
rotation being next season so before we get into that please hit the like button hit the subscribe button get into the comments section let us know what you
0:30
think the rotation's going to look like or the depth chart and um so yeah Danny how are you doing on this Thursday morning i'm doing well my fingers hurt a
0:37
little bit from typing but that's always a good thing uh and you know I think uh I think this team is coming along nicely
0:46
yeah I definitely um I agree it has been busy it's like every time you uh open up X or social media there's a new
0:53
commitment or a new trend so that was kind of fun two commitments in one day um on Wednesday so you don't see that a
0:59
lot but uh Fred Hoyberg is comfortable in the transfer portal we've seen that again um kind of has to be with this
1:05
team but looking back to what Monday they added Jammarcus Lawrence Monday afternoon after we recorded our our
1:12
previous episode so we'll get into that he's going to come back and be the point guard um and then I guess as a move I
1:19
think that's correlated to that Nick Janowski entered the transfer portal um so that was kind of a bummer and then uh
1:26
kind of bouncing back up and picking up our spirits the Huskers added Will Cooper on uh Wednesday morning and then
1:32
added Kendall Blue from uh St thomas a 6'6 guard uh Cooper a 6'7 wing who um is
1:39
from Omaha played one year at Air Force not a ton of time but he did uh over the last month of the season averaged 11
1:45
points per game shot 37% from three made 23 so you know we we talked about it a
1:50
bunch off the air but Fred Hoyberg was not joking when he talked about you know adding more three-point shooting to this team yeah he he he had a goal and he's
1:58
and he set out to do it and he did it and uh you talk about you know a busy couple days a busy week this really
2:05
started with Price Sanford and you know you and I were kind of talking about how would the college basketball crown
2:11
affect you know recruiting in the transfer portal as to would it distract the coaching staff from recruiting and
2:17
the answer is no i mean I know some people were were kind of were kind of
2:23
upset that um you know the Huskers had Zoom calls and things like that but um
2:29
you know I think the college basketball crown allowed you know players and
2:35
transfers to see the type of style uh Nebraska basketball wanted to play and see where they would fit and so I know a
2:42
lot of people didn't like the crowd i wasn't a fan of it but um between actually winning the thing and also you
2:50
know allowing recruits a chance to see where you know what Nebraska basketball
2:55
is I think the returns overall were good not to mention that it outdrew the NIT
3:00
and in terms of viewership yeah I think the NIT's cooked i mean all these people who are like Nebraska
3:06
didn't even win the NI the NIT's done like the crown has surpassed the NIT like the the field was I mean look at
3:12
the final four it was like Chattanooga against I don't even know who it was like who cares like it's just it the
3:17
it's a mid- major tournament now and uh it's not even they don't even play the the semi-finals in Madison Square Garden
3:23
so like the NIT is for all intents and purposes like it's it's done as a
3:28
tournament like I I totally feel that the crown has surpassed it and will surpass it uh just because you have
3:34
bigger names you have bigger names and I think the format's better um the NIT spread out over three weeks whereas you
3:40
know the Crown is during the week leading up to the Final Four when there's no no other basketball and fans
3:46
want basketball and you have more recognizable you know program names and team names and I I just think it's a I
3:53
think it's a better format at least for for what it is right I mean it's like trying to keep you know if you're trying
3:59
to keep attention on the crown for 3 weeks like I think that would be difficult to do but doing it for four days four or five days I think is much
4:05
more doable and um I have I have more of an appetite for that and it was like they they served it up as kind of like a
4:12
an appetizer to the final four you know for the uh you know the semi-final games on Saturday and I thought it was perfect
4:18
like they didn't try to compete with it they found the time when like hey when do people when are people kind of
4:23
withdrawing from basketball and then they put games you know right there and and to me the best thing was like I just
4:28
like watching this team play i like Bryce Williams and Joan Gary so I I was glad that they got a chance and we
4:34
discovered Kale Jacobson who's going to I believe have a role in this team so um yeah the crowd worked out well for
4:39
Nebraska i do think it showed some of their culture too and you know how these guys want to play for each other because there's other teams that could have
4:45
played in this tournament that didn't right like Northwestern you know didn't want to play and and some other teams ruters I think was another one um so I'm
4:52
glad Nebraska played and yeah they they uh riled that Price Sanford um last Friday and um Ugnes Jurafagis probably
5:00
messing that name up sorry but trying trying the best that I can i think you did well with that yeah but he's a he's
5:06
a really exciting player too um I I think that adds a lot of intrigue to you know this roster we both have talked
5:12
about how we kind of like how this roster is coming together um but yeah Kendall Blue in terms of the other commitment um this week to me that's the
5:20
guy that not I'm not saying he's a like forlike replacement of Bryce Williams but he's a lot like Bryce Williams in
5:26
the sense that he can score you know from all over the court i mean he's a really effective uh you know score in
5:31
the mid-range he can get to the rim he actually even though he shot 41% from three last year um you know in this past
5:38
season but two years ago he actually led the Summit League in field goal percentage um I mean as a as a 66 wing I
5:44
think that's pretty impressive and shows you the kind of ability he has you know attacking the rim and um you know hitting those mid-range jump shots he's
5:51
not a you know like you know exact replacement for Bryce Williams but he's pretty damn close i mean when you look
5:56
at their you know styles of game they both have the mid-range jumper they both can you know drive to the rim they both
6:03
can shoot and so you know although he's he's not you know an exact carbon copy
6:09
of Bryce Williams he does a lot of the same things that Williams did and to me
6:15
that's why this was my favorite commitment so far just because he adds that shooting presence you know he adds
6:21
that you know mid-range shot he can get to the line he can finish at the rim you
6:26
know it's it's was really impressive to see him do all these things and um I
6:32
know fans and I know we were bummed about losing Bryce but I think we got a good um you know replacement here and
6:40
yeah looking back at what Bryce did before he came to Nebraska at Charlotte you know he um averaged the year before
6:47
he transferred he averaged 13.8 points per game um 1.2 2 assists five rebounds
6:54
shot um 53% from the field from two 39% from three um 40% from the field overall
7:01
so like you can see a lot of a lot of similarities I think with Kendall Blue um you know he his usage rate is pretty
7:08
high 22% Bryce was 27% that season before he transferred i think the fact that he can take his
7:14
game from I think this is one thing about Fred Hoyberg and this is why I think and I wish that some Nebraska fans
7:19
would value him more but he really does have a knack for taking these guys from these mid- major conferences and turning
7:24
him helping them develop into something i mean Bryce Williams you know averaged 13 a game in Conference USA or whatever
7:31
i think that's what it is and he he bumped that up to 20 points per game with Nebraska i mean you look at Komaaga
7:36
came from a junior college and was third team all big 10 um rank mass was you know came from the Missouri Valley
7:42
Conference and also was an all-conference I think second or third team all Big 10 so I mean Fred definitely has an ability to take these
7:48
guys from lower conferences and you know develop them into you know professional caliber players i mean Tomaga's in the
7:55
G-League i think Bryce has a good chance of if he doesn't get drafted he'll be in the G- League too i mean I the NBA would
8:01
be stupid to pass up on him with all the shot making that he's got rink is probably going to be playing
8:06
professional i know that people you know are kind of down on uh Berke uh you know
8:12
Bingel but he's got a he's got a professional future too so I just feel like um you know if I was like someone
8:18
like Kendall Blue or a mid- major guy that wants to play professional basketball Nebraska is a place I would
8:23
very much consider because Fred has shown that he can help these guys you know reach their potential at Nebraska
8:29
was it ranked masterid major too yeah yep from the Yeah he came from the Missouri Valley Conference and his first
8:35
year transfers up and is uh you know an all-conference player in the Big 10 so I mean I think Fred deserves some credit
8:41
for that absolutely and I'm excited to see him back on the court but anyway I like how this lineup shakes out and how
8:46
different combinations can shake out and I know we'll get to it here in a second but I like the depth on this team and I
8:53
know I said it last year but I feel like this this edition of Nebraska basketball
9:00
has that shooting that they've been missing for so long and this it's not going to be predicated on one or two
9:06
players scoring the basketball they can score from everywhere now yeah and going back to um Jamarcus Lawrence which I
9:13
think is an interesting pickup and I know some fans you know I'd seen the comment of "Oh he only averaged 9.9
9:19
points per game or whatever." um like I get that but Jammarcus the thing is he's not he's not like a super high usage you
9:26
know type of player but um you know he is an effective uh he's an effective playmaker and he only played 28 minutes
9:32
per game last year so I mean he could even bump that up a little bit I'm not sure if that'll happen at Nebraska just
9:37
with the way that their guard rotation is working out but um you know he shot 39% from three last year and even if you
9:44
look back at you know his time with Nebraska a very effective three-point shooter made 22 as a freshman 45 as as a
9:51
sophomore and uh he's thought 35% for his career um you know he adds some playmaking i think he's a good defender
9:58
um and he's really quick too he's a really kind of quick player at attacking the basket and I think him and and
10:03
Kendall Blue too is another guy that adds some playmaking so you see both of those guards um you know both of them
10:09
can you know play out of ball screens um they can both attack the basket so I just feel like you know his three-point
10:15
shooting as well you know gives Nebraska kind of that that floor spacing element and it was a bummer to lose you know
10:20
Nick Janowski and um it's just like we've talked about high school recruiting for Nebraska is going to be a
10:27
tough thing because you know there's a lot of good players in Omaha they got one in Will Cooper but you know some of the better ones seem to you know go to
10:33
Kraton or go to these other places and then you know if you're not getting a top 100 guy who's you know in your
10:39
rotation right away as a freshman then it just it's just hard to keep those guys and I it's you know high school
10:44
recruiting is just difficult it seems like you know if you have a three or four person class even even in the best
10:51
case scenario you're probably only keeping you know maybe one or two of those guys moving forward because they they uh they just don't have the
10:58
patience and they want the role it's like every I feel like every season now it's a year-to-year deal and you know I
11:04
think I said this before the other day but the player and the team both have to agree on like what their role is going to be and also what the money's going to
11:10
be you know because it could be a situation where you know Janowski is like I know I can play more minutes than
11:16
I'm playing at Nebraska and if I can find that somewhere else you know I can get more NIL and I can get you know a
11:21
bigger role and so I feel like there's just a disconnect with uh you know what he thought his role was going to be and
11:26
what Nebraska you know thought it could be or could guarantee what it could be yeah high school recruiting is very
11:32
difficult and I mean let's be honest here Fred doesn't want to do it and that's not necessarily a you know hidden
11:39
thing i mean he's made it very clear he wants us to be a Portal team but I remember just being so excited about
11:44
Janowski coming in two years ago and uh he we absolutely stole him from Wisconsin so I am a little bit bummed
11:51
about that but I figured once a guy like Lawrence came in and you know some of these other you know players came in
11:57
there wasn't going to be a lot of room for him so it's very clear that Nebraska is going to be a portal team under Fred Hoyberg and that's okay um but uh you
12:05
know I think I think Janowski's departure definitely stings a little bit just because I was excited to see what
12:11
he could have done it does yeah and I mean I think Nebraska I don't know that Fred's averse to high
12:17
school recruiting i think it's just they have to do the portal out of necessity i mean and I think that that's almost every team i mean look at you know look
12:24
at M i mean Michigan made they won the Big 10 tournament made the Sweet 16 and like literally three days later their
12:30
starting point guard transferred out because they they wanted to go get another guy like it's just it's just such a a difficult thing anymore that
12:37
even the best teams are going to be you know getting guys out of the portal now I I do believe there is something to the
12:44
fact that you know you want most you want as many returning players back as you can and that's something Nebraska's
12:50
just not going to have as many of you know next year and that's just you know it is what it is but I do think that's
12:55
why Fred is also trying to add guys that you know have have multiple years when when he can i mean like Price Sanford um
13:02
you know Will Cooper is another guy that has multiple years to play um I don't think your sephage just does i think I
13:09
believe he's uh has one more year but I'd have to double check on that um I think he played two years at at Bakers
13:16
so three of these guys are going to be you know one and done guys at Nebraska and that's that's okay you don't want
13:21
your entire team to be you know transfer portal um so that's why it would be nice to see some of these guys you know have
13:27
a chance to develop a little bit i think Will Cooper is um you know in part
13:32
somewhat of a replacement not a like for-like replacement for Janowski but you know just another guy that they can
13:37
develop and you know a solid three-point share guy that also had injuries his
13:42
junior and senior year in high school so if that doesn't happen he might be more of a highly touted recruit um so I Yeah
13:50
I don't It's it it's just a difficult thing I feel like with with Nebraska and so they're going to have to continually
13:57
you know scout talent out of these mid- major programs i mean that's just that's just where they are hopefully they get
14:04
more NIL to be able to to uh you know do more high school recruiting but with Kraton around and with their you know
14:10
seemingly unlimited NIL budget almost because they don't have the football program it's just it's a tough place for
14:16
Nebraska to be in but Fred Hoyberg is great in the portal and uh I think he's demonstrated he knows how to find uh he
14:21
knows how to find talent and he knows how to get the most out of that talent yeah and I mean you look at some of the
14:28
2025 um you know commits you got a guy like Quinton Rimes who comes from the
14:35
high school ranks and you know so there is a little bit of you know high school
14:40
talent or non-transfer portal talent so um it it is hard with Kraton it is hard
14:47
with Kraton in the state and it's also hard when you know you're not the you're
14:53
not the main sport at your school and by and large I think the transfer
15:00
portal method has worked for Fred over these last two seasons it just hurts to
15:05
see all these instate players not come to Nebraska yeah it does i mean the more you know
15:11
the more they win and you know the more they they start to build it I think hopefully that will change eventually
15:17
but um but yeah just for for right now they have to do the best that they can each year and I think they've done a
15:22
pretty solid job with this roster it reminds me a lot of the 2023 2024 team that made it to the NCA tournament um so
15:30
let's talk about that let's look at what the rotation's going to be now there's still um a couple of spots available i believe at least at least one maybe two
15:38
i might have to I have to count up all the the roster then it used to be that there was a 13man limit scholarship
15:44
limit now with um you know the new house settlement and roster limits it's looking like you'll be able to have 15
15:50
up to 15 scholarship players so that's kind of the framework everybody's working off of right now so like with
15:56
Kale Jacobson I think that's a great you know great thing is he's already announced that he's coming back um so
16:01
he'll be I'm thinking on you know full or a partial scholarship but um either way looking at this team let's break it
16:08
down um let's just start with the point guard position we'll go through each one um so I think my starting point guard is
16:14
going to be Jammarcus Lawrence i think he's going to be the guy i think that's why he came here um and then I think the
16:19
number two who's going to kind of you know get some minutes there like this year I think Sam Hoyberg think he'll
16:25
essentially be the backup point guard and uh you know do a little bit of ball handling of course I think he'll play
16:31
off guard too on defense but that's kind of my for point guard I would say Lawrence first and then uh you know Sam
16:37
Hoyberg is kind of the backup i agree because Hoyberg brings that defensive element that you know he is known for
16:43
and Lawrence I mean as a primary ball handler I could definitely see where he would fit in this offense like his like
16:50
we said before his ability to drive his ability to get to the hoop and give
16:55
space to the shooters is important and so I think Lawrence will be the starter
17:01
yeah and I think uh he he's a solid defensive player too um you know looking back at his time you know he I wouldn't
17:07
say he's quite as good as Sam Hoyberg you know defensively but I think he's pretty close to that and he's very good
17:13
at checking guards so um you know he'll be able to you know add some defensive elements there as well um so looking at
17:19
the two guard the offguard position I think that's going to be Kendall Blue um I think that's pretty clear looking at this roster right now he uh you know is
17:26
a playmaker like I said two and a half assists per game he could do some things in ball screens um he's a really good
17:31
shooter um can attack the bucket as um I think one of the few guys on this team that you could put in an isolation
17:38
situation and and he can go get you a mid-range jump shots like late shot clock situations um kind of like what we
17:43
saw this year with Bryce Williams i think you'll see some of that with Kendall Blue um and then I think the other guy who will probably play quite a
17:50
bit back there is Sam Hoyberg i mean I I I think he's going to see a lot of time as you know the first guard off the
17:56
bench whether that's at the two position or at the at the one i think he's going to have a critical role on this team and
18:02
and we saw he he uh you know he's one of the best defenders and he's just a scrappy guy you know he's just one of those guys that you know when you talk
18:08
about Nebraska being a gritty team like uh Sam Hoyberg um you know as part of that so I expect him to be in the mix
18:14
too and um I also think I also think Kale Jacobson's going to get a little bit of time in the back court as well
18:20
whether that's you know we saw him play a little bit of point guard at the crown we saw him play off the ball and uh you
18:25
know I think he's just going to be in the mix a little bit there as a you know just kind of a jack of all trades uh
18:30
dude coming off the bench the combination of Lawrence and Blue on the floor together is exciting and I think
18:37
you know Blue can provide a little bit of everything like we talked about a little bit ago um he can drive to the
18:43
rim he can shoot he can provide that offensive spark and so I definitely agree with that rotation and I do think
18:50
Kale is going to see an increased role this season yeah and I think um he could
18:56
also see some time at the the thing is at the three i think Kale really can see time at the one two or three that's
19:01
that's you know he's kind of an interesting player not that you would want him to be a full-time point guard but he does have the ability to kind of
19:07
he's just he's just kind of captain fundamental you know he makes good passes right like he has good jump stops
19:13
he he freaking pivots the right way he just does things you're supposed to do and he I mean for all the things that he
19:19
did in the crown I think his his I think he had like one or two turnovers the entire tournament and so yeah he was very efficient you know and teams that
19:26
like to turn that like to force turnovers so um anyway at the three I
19:31
think uh Price Sanford's going to be the guy there which is really exciting i think when you think about a lineup that
19:37
has you know Jammarcus Lawrence that has Kendall Blue that has bigs who can kind of do the pick and roll stuff now you
19:43
just can't have a Price out there um shooting threes he's also very good around the rim um and I think he will
19:50
get more attempts um shot 40% from three last year but he only play I think he played like 22 minutes a game so like
19:56
there's definitely room for him to have a bigger role and um as a 68 kid I think he does a better job of finishing um and
20:03
he's a good he's a good cutter i mean that's the thing about Iowa is they are very they know that ball movement type of stuff so I feel like he'll fit really
20:09
well in Fred's offense and um we've seen guys who were you know like Tomaga was a
20:14
great great mover without the ball um I feel like Price Sanford can do some of that stuff as well just being a smart
20:19
player and I feel like he'll have opportunities um so I think he'll be the first guy that's the number three and then um like I mentioned I think we'll
20:26
see some Kale Jacobson and then Will Cooper a little bit too um you know I I feel like he's probably more a piece for
20:32
the future but he can shoot the heck out of the ball and in the Mountain West is a pretty good conference so I mean to go
20:38
he was six or 12 from three against Fresno State so I think that just gives them another option and another guy that
20:43
can play on the wing so that's how I see that position kind of shaken out nebraska has a ton of shooters at the
20:50
position like like you just said three right there and I think when you look at what Price Sanford can bring um not just
20:57
talking about his ability to finish at the rim but also just his overall shooting ability when you look at the
21:03
guards and Lawrence and Blue who can kind of penetrate in the paint and kind
21:08
of go towards the basket and then you you know you can kick it out to Sanford i think I think that's a recipe for
21:14
success yeah um I believe that too and just a lot more spacing there's going to be a
21:20
lot more spacing i I think you're almost going to have everybody on this team who can shoot threes where I mean this that
21:26
just wasn't always the case this year like Raleigh Worster was kind of became a point where you know it was like you
21:32
didn't want the ball in his hands because you you didn't feel confident with him shooting and so um that you don't want to have a guy like that on
21:38
the team really i mean I don't want to say it like that but there just there was too many times where there wasn't
21:44
you know offensive threats so um I think the front court is where we're going to
21:49
see the kind of the most intrigue I think with this Nebraska team um you know and there's uh you've got rank mast
21:55
um and then Berke Bingel and then Ugnis Jerus i think those are going to be you
22:00
know the three guys we kind of talked about there might not be a true center i don't know if you would say that Rink is that or that Jurusph is that even Berke
22:07
but I think they can do enough i don't know that you need a pure center but they can all kind of rebound and score
22:12
down low um how do you I'll let you go first here how do you see this front court rotation working out mass Juff and
22:22
probably Burke i don't know you can mix and match a bunch of ways but if I had to if I had to you know pick you know my
22:31
three those would be the three so who would who do you who do you see starting
22:36
put you on the spot who would your starters be mast and obviously and
22:45
then I like your suffages off the bench but Burk struggled last year and I'm not
22:52
going to you know going to throw him off the roster or you know whatever but I think Berke for
22:59
now that's a tough one I'm going to say Berky for now but I could see Joseph
23:05
just taking over starting role yeah I think rank will he's starting i mean they've all indications are that he's
23:12
going to be healthy you know I still worry about him having a transition kind of getting back and you know so as long
23:19
as he's healthy I think he's going to start i think ideally that's your you know he's your four five like whatever
23:24
it doesn't really matter he's one of your bigs and then um the other Yeah I think it's just going to be about form because I know I know some fans are down
23:30
on Berke and they're like "Oh he only averaged so many points per game this year." But also Jurro Sephagis you know
23:35
his previous two years he only averaged like five points a game too i mean he went from you know not really starting
23:41
at Cal State Bakersfield to starting at Central Michigan he had a great season like don't get me wrong i'm not trying
23:47
to say that put that down at all but that's a one-year deal like can can that translate to the Big 10 i mean don't
23:54
don't think that this guy's going to score 16 points per game in the Big 10 now maybe he can because Fred we've seen
24:00
it before we've seen Fred help players like Rank and Bryce Williams actually increase their production you know once
24:05
they go to Nebraska so it's possible but that's going to be a big leap especially I just feel like you know he's 610 in
24:11
the MAC and I feel like 610 in the MAC is a lot different than 610 in the Big 10 so you know I I still think he's an
24:18
effective low post score and I do think he has a chance to start i just think it's going to be a really interesting competition between him and Beer and you
24:25
know if Berke is healthy like when he played against Ohio State like that if he can find that form like that guy
24:31
would start but you know if he's hurt and you know I so it's going to be close but I think those three guys will play a
24:37
lot and then another guy I think for Nebraska fans to know um Justin Bolas he red shirted last year um he's from
24:44
Lincoln but he played at a jo um the year before and was really he scored 15 points a game um 1.2 two blocks so good
24:52
yeah yeah 68 kind of more athletic um you know red shirted last year he's another guy um you know Brennan Frager
24:59
is another one who could be in the mix probably you know just he he to me he's like a 34 type so um he could play some
25:06
minutes if they had to i do think that they're going to try to probably add some more size in the front court um I
25:11
think they've got a couple spots left so I would ideally it would they would be nice to find um a shot blocker of
25:19
some sort you know another guy with size who can protect the rim but you know that might be uh that might be wishful
25:24
thinking honestly after last season's attempt at
25:29
a shot blocker and a big man I'm kind of all set with those i just want guys that
25:34
can shoot the hell out of the basketball and just just score enough to where you don't give up the final two points of
25:40
the game and hold the lead and win at this point i just want shooting shooting and more shooting and we have shooting
25:46
um and also I think it's worth noting I just looked this up that Rink Mast is 610 so there you go i mean and he can
25:55
still play that kind of post game if you want to he's he's much better shooter but you know I think
26:02
uh your suffer size shouldn't necessarily be an issue and I'm not
26:07
saying that you said it was i was just thinking in general because you're right we don't have a true big man but
26:12
honestly I'm kind of all set with that yeah like I think Rink will be um Yeah Rink will be good you know you don't
26:18
need to be seven foot my My only point was just that I don't think uh you're you're seven he'll see more guys that
26:25
are 610 you know that that was but yeah I get and um yeah rink is you know rink
26:30
um on its two-point percentage a couple years ago 48% so yeah he's not quite as dangerous in the low post as uh you know
26:37
as probably your is and that's why I think you know it's nice to have that high low and he was really good with
26:43
that um you know we had Josiah Leak and and I would say that your Sephus is a is a better you know low post score a more
26:50
skilled low post scorer yeah so and you look at just the way that these guys can play man you know you're going to have
26:55
rink out there a real a true pick and pop threat with Kendall Blue and Jammarcus Lawrence both of those guys
27:02
you know if if teams play drop coverage you know they can step up and hit that mid-range shot you know if they want to if teams want to hedge you know rink can
27:09
pop out and they can shoot the three they've also got you know shooters on the wing so I feel like there's just a
27:14
lot of uh fun pieces on this team and it's not going to have to be it's going to be different offensively but I it's
27:21
going to be more like it was two years ago i don't know if we're going to have you know the tomaga of it but it's going
27:27
to be more balanced where it's not going to be Bryce Williams cuz cuz really this season Yeah i mean I I said it in every
27:33
single one of my previews for the Crown though is that for Nebraska to win one of my keys is that Bryce and Jan have to
27:38
score 40 points together and that's basically if they didn't combine for 40 for 40 points unless somebody else just
27:44
like went off it was going to be hard for them to win they just didn't have enough scoring and they were tired you could tell they were tired and I don't
27:51
blame them at all they had to carry the scoring load but um and that's the thing about the Big 10 man that that eight
27:56
that 20 game schedule is absolutely brutal and I think that that just wore them down and so like you started to see
28:03
kind of like November like November February you know even the end of January where where or the beginning of
28:10
January excuse me at you know when we lost all those close games i mean that schedule was was brutal so um it'll be
28:17
good to have some three-point shooting and um you know I think for whatever
28:24
your just you know lacks in size and scoring ability on the inside they now have they now can get that scoring from
28:30
the perimeter and that's not something they've had in at least two seasons tommanaga definitely in uh 2023 2024 but
28:39
I don't think that there's been this volume of shooters for Nebraska in quite
28:45
some time yeah and actually geez we uh we left out Connor Asian as the uh So
28:50
we're gonna That's really bad oh I thought I I thought Conor was a given so that's why I didn't mentioned him but yeah yeah so he's obviously he's going
28:57
to be we should have mentioned him more as the two as the back in the back court um I do think he's going to come off the bench though um so that's that's my
29:06
which I don't love but I could see cuz I feel like he deserves a starting role i mean I think it's going to come down to
29:11
him or Kendall Blue um I mean unless maybe they want to go you know maybe they go with Kendall Blue and Connor you
29:18
know as like your two and three i mean that's possible too so I I I do think um
29:24
they're going to want one of those whether it's Price Sanford or Kendall Blue or or a Sie to come off the bench
29:30
and um I could see Connor playing a similar similar role that he did last year because his usage rate actually was
29:36
almost as high as Bryce Williams so like when when Connor came in like he was the go-to scorer and uh you know not that
29:43
he's not going to play with those other I mean basically like Connor didn't start but he essentially finished almost every game so you know I don't I don't
29:50
know how how that's all going to work out but I mean he made a bunch of threes this year so he's also going to be a
29:56
focal point of this team so little little brain fart on my part sorry I didn't mention him with the two guards i
30:01
don't know how I kind of forgot about that but uh he's definitely going to be in that mix and um you know he's going to play multiple spots and he's going to
30:07
hit probably 73s next year wherever whether he starts or not so that's as long as he shoots a high percentage that
30:13
that's all I care about yeah they were able to uh like I said they were able to get shooters and you know Connor I know
30:19
fans were frustrated with him at the end of last season but you know when when you take a look at what he did in the
30:25
crown and how he kind of helped provide that scoring lift you know I think that's a better kind of preview of
30:31
what's to come yeah and he averaged uh 10 I mean 10.7 points per game um you
30:37
know shot uh let's see 37% from three made 2.2 three-pointers per game like
30:43
there's you know there's nothing else that Nebraska could have asked out of Connor Agent this season um 78 made 78
30:50
three-pointers like that's that's getting it done i'm going to look back but that might be more than Kay Toanaga
30:55
made um his last season in Nebraska so which is crazy because I feel like Kay like I don't know his his 78 or whatever
31:03
were different than Connors yeah yeah and I think with KA too I think just it's like you you remember all the all
31:10
the dagger threes but I think people forget like how good that dude was just like "Oh you're going to defend my
31:16
three-point shots?" Yeah he made 76 as a that that's that's crazy yeah and he
31:22
made 66 the year before so like in terms of just three-point shooting Connor's Conor's right there but the thing about
31:28
Tomminog is he did a lot of it too with just people draped around him like Connor didn't have that um you know as
31:35
much attention and I think that's that's why like you're saying it was it felt different because it was like he was making like 30footers over two or three
31:42
people sometimes like shooting shooting shots that nobody should shoot and still making them like
31:48
he's still you know he I I said that Bryce Williams like probably deserves to
31:53
be on the Nebraska like Mount Rushmore and I don't think Kay does but he's still probably he's still like in my
32:00
heart of hearts like he's still probably one of my favorites like I don't know because he brought an electricity to the
32:08
game that that uh is hard to replicate and the way he moved without the
32:13
basketball and how he was constantly working i think maybe that's why his three-point shots feel a little bit different than his agents but I think I
32:20
think he deserves a place on the Nebraska basketball Mount Rushmore because he got he got more people
32:25
excited about the program even on a national level than anybody I can remember in recent memory oh you're
32:31
going to make the boomers so mad now Danny whatever that's what I do all day all day I just push myself
32:38
are gonna be so mad oh bring back coach Osborne bring back the days of the letter helmets like be quiet
32:46
because let's see um because yeah I don't know trying to think of who would
32:51
be Okay so Eric Pacowski obviously is on there um and Tyron Lou is on there and
32:58
then I have to h there's there's got to be other really good players um I just don't know as Nebraska history as well
33:05
as some others i got to look back at some of Danny N's teams cuz like I think
33:10
they had some other NBA players that were pretty good but yeah it's clo it's definitely close though um Tommanog is
33:17
probably in the conversation eric Strickland that's the guy I was trying to think of um so he was all big eight
33:25
player looking back at his career so he averaged Yeah 16 14 um so I don't know
33:33
tomaga definitely be in the mix but Eric Strickland probably would be up there um as another guy i'm trying to I feel like
33:39
there was a really good player in like the 70s but I could be
33:45
wrong but yeah I mean I I definitely think Tomaga is in the conversation
33:51
um you know it's it's kind of Yeah but I I I I do believe that uh
33:58
Bryce would be on there for sure um you know it's hard to say too though with with Bryce because he only played two
34:05
years at Nebraska so that's the other part of it it's like you know how does that how do you weigh those types of
34:11
things you know because it's it's not like you're going to have like four and even Tomaga wasn't um you know wasn't I
34:17
think he only played at Nebraska but for three years so you just don't get as many guys that are like one through four
34:22
you know graduate um I'm trying to actually look I found an article on your site here Corn Huskers Wire so Rich King
34:30
is another guy uh Dave Hoppin i don't know enough about these guys to say if they're better than Tomaga or not but uh
34:38
definitely definitely in that range um so yeah and and if you're talking
34:44
about the coach for the Mount Rushmore team it would have to be obviously Danny Knee but maybe I remember Strickland on
34:49
my Celtics at the later years of his career yeah so yeah so he I I think he would be
34:56
in there but um and he was on some of those teams uh in the 90s that were really good too um I think he actually
35:03
was on that I think he was on the team that won the 96 NIT yeah because Strickland Strickland's NBA career I'm
35:10
I'm I'm looking at all the numbers right now he his career began in 97 and he
35:15
played until 2005 so he probably was on that 94 team yep so um yeah interesting
35:21
and then uh Rich King I'm seeing here was a first round was was a first round pick um back in 19 92 um so he might be
35:32
another guy that was he was drafted 14th overall so he must have been pretty damn good so he he might be up there and then
35:38
uh Dave Hoppin three time three time all big big eight selection and all-American
35:44
in 1986 so actually I don't know eric Strickland might not be on the list so I don't know there's a few there's a few
35:49
guys some of you people who follow Nebraska you know in those other years 80s and 90s definitely you know get into
35:55
the comment section i remember Pacowski and Strickland i was uh you know I moved to Nebraska in like 1991 so like but I
36:02
was only like 5 years old so like I really didn't you know Rich King was probably too young for me eric Pyowski
36:09
is the guy I remember i remember Tyron Lou i remember Eric Strickland um I I remember Danny Kne i got to meet Danny
36:16
Knee once so that was pretty cool um yeah he was a cool guy um but I still think that Fred Hoyberg is going to get
36:21
is going to surpass him and get our first NCA tournament win i don't know when that prediction is going to come true but that is my prediction for the
36:27
next like four or five years in Nebraska basketball what's really interesting is that the Nebraska basketball's had three
36:33
recent draft uh NBA draft picks and Roby Delano Banton and Bryce McGawan so there's been a recent uh influx of
36:41
talent coming and being developed in the program of course Roby I think was developed more by Tim Miles but I mean
36:49
still in in recent history the Nebraska basketball alum have done okay in the
36:54
NBA yeah hopefully we'll uh start getting more guys in there i'm excited to see where Bryce goes um so anyway um I we
37:02
will uh wrap it up there you guys with our Mount Rushmore we have our depth chart predictions we'll be back on
37:07
Saturday we're going to do a Saturday morning chat we'll probably talk about some spring ball maybe we'll have another transfer portal edition by then
37:13
yell at me in the comments and uh tell tell us what you think or how I'm wrong
37:18
