Nebraska Football vs. Northwestern: pre-game chat

Hey, Husker fans, welcome back to the Husker Big Red YouTube channel. I'm Chris Peterson

and with me as always is Danny Gillette. And we're here for our Saturday morning pregame

chat. It's game day. Last week we had our chat. There was no game. So that felt a little

bit strange, but we're back. We got the game today. And Danny, how are you doing on this

wonderful Saturday morning? I didn't oversleep, which means it's game day. I can never sleep

on game day. And my alarm went off today and I was thinking, why did I set my alarm for

seven? And then I'm like, oh yeah, there's football today. And so no bye week for me

today. I am sharp on time and ready to go. And honestly, you know, so are, so is the

volleyball team. So is the football team. And so is this coaching staff as they continue

to recruit at a high level. And that was, you know, made it made apparent and put on

full display Friday night. You know, it's football. That's, it's a football game today

That's gotta be one of the best sayings, you know, in the, in the history of Western civilization. So Nebraska had the bye week, you know, healthy now a big game today against

Northwestern. Both teams are three and three, both teams are one and two in the big 10 West

So you know, a really big opportunity for Nebraska to get above 500 in the second half

of the season. I was thinking the other day, I don't, I don't think that's happened since 2016, since the last time we went to a bowl game, unless I'm wrong

Unless it was like, so either. Yeah. So, I mean, it would be a, just a huge step

obviously that would match the wind total from last year. So it would just be a lot of things

I think it is a good test to see where, you know, this program's at, because, you know, like I said

it's, you, you got to be able to win the games that you're supposed to win. And this is a game

Nebraska should win. They're better. They've got more talent than Northwestern, but Northwestern

doesn't beat itself. And, and so the Huskers are going to have to play good, solid football

I believe that they will. I'm predicted in Nebraska win all week, but that's why they

play the game. So hopefully let's get to it. And anybody, if you're watching on YouTube or Facebook

after you know, Nebraska Northwestern, we've got a massive volleyball match tonight in Lincoln

and that place is going to be just absolutely packed for number one, Wisconsin number two

Nebraska 17. And no, I think the Wisconsin's won nine of the last 10. They'd won like nine in a

row against Nebraska. So, you know, if Nebraska really wants to win a national championship

even a big 10 championship, they got to win tonight. So you need to check out that volleyball match too tonight, Danny. Yeah, definitely. I mean, I love sports. I'll probably

sprinkling some volleyball matches, some more college football. And, you know, I'm really

excited for that one. I'm really excited for this match. And, you know, I think that, you know

obviously the Nebraska volleyball team has been on an absolute tear and not only this year, but

you know, the last couple of years, so it's going to be a great one. Wisconsin has had their number

one, and, you know, hopefully the ladies can pull it out. A big difference this year

obviously for Nebraska, their dynamic freshman class. I mean, Harper Murray, who's been big 10

player numerous times, not just freshmen of the week, but big 10 player of the week. You know

Andy Jackson, who, you know, was a middle blocker and she's one of the most productive hitters in

the country in terms of hitting percentage, you know, Bergen Riley. So, you know, Merritt Beeson

has been playing out of her mind, so we'll see what they can do tonight. But everybody has been

kind of had this match circled on their calendar. Both teams got their undefeated. So it should be

really exciting. It's going to be on the big 10 network. I wish it was on like ESPN or something

but I understand, you know, there's a lot of college football games, but at least it's not

like big 10 plus or something stupid like that. Yeah. I'm going to have to figure out something

for basketball season because I'm not paying $75,000 for 17 streaming channels to watch the

basketball team. I love the basketball team, but boy, that schedule is not variable to people who

don't want to pay for more streaming services. Yeah. The only, yeah, it's, it is kind of

annoying. I do, they do have me wrapped in on the Peacock. So I mean, I have Peacock too, actually

So I, yeah. And I, and I know with basketball and frankly, I really liked dateline, so I like the

true crime show. But, um, I'm not, but BTN plus doesn't have any of that content. So we'll have

to see what happens. I mean, I know you can sign up for like, I think you can sign up just to do

like basketball. So if you just want to follow men's and women's basketball, but it's still not

I think that's still like 10 bucks a month, which is kind, I mean, that's kind of a lot

especially like it's, it'd be one thing if you were watching like every game, but I don't know

if like, I'm setting up for big 10 plus, and then I have to get this other game on Peacock

You know what I mean? So it's like, where's the, so I don't know. I have to do some more research

on it. I guess if you could watch every game, it wouldn't be that bad, but, and I am excited for

the women's team too. I think Amy Williams and those, uh, I think both teams have a good shot

to make the NCAA tournament. Um, you know, now that we had big 10 media days this week

what if the basketball game and dateline are on at the same time? What do you do? Oh, I, well, dayline, you can watch at any time. So, you know, but, uh

yeah, I love the crime shows. So I have my advice is to, uh, Jersey shore is one of my, uh

favorites and good morning, Sam. He says badger girls are really good. They've won the last 24

sets leads the NCAA. They'll lead to play damn near perfectly. And I, good luck ladies. Yeah

It's going to be a great one. It's going to be a great one. Uh, DVR see the problem with my DVR

is that I always forget to clean it out. So I go to record something and then I get about halfway

through and then it stops. And then I'm like, Oh damn, I forgot to clean out my DVR. And then I

have to go back and clean out my DVR. And it's just way too much effort for me. I just like do

the on demand. I just, I do the on demand stuff anymore. I'm not really big. I have stuff on the

DVR. I just don't watch it anymore. And, uh, you know, I just, I, I used to DVR sports, but it's

so hard. Like if you're trying to, you basically have to like turn your phone off. Like if that's

what I've decided, if you're going to try to watch a game, like from my perspective or from either

from other people's perspectives, you know, they're like, Oh, I'm working and I'm going to try to, it's like, no, that doesn't work, man. If you're like in a group text, like you have to

either tell everybody to not text and that's just like too much work, you know? And then you've got

the Facebook, you've got Twitter, you've got like, so if I'm going to try to do that type of, like

I literally have to turn my phones totally off. And then even when I'm watching it on the DVR

I can still feel that it's already happened. So I just like to, I just have given up on that

Like I just follow it and then I'll, if it's a good result, then I'll rewatch it. If not

then I'll just delete it. So I can remember the good, well, not me, but my dad of actually taping

games and, uh, yeah, that makes me feel kind of old now, but, um, yeah, don't tell me the score

Don't tell me the score. Don't turn on the TV. Don't let me know. And then he would watch it later that night or whatever. But, um, you know, hopefully this football, hopefully both the

football and volleyball games will be worth watching, uh, later. And, you know, it's just

kind of, it's, it's, it's kind of crazy. There's so much buzz around Husker athletics right now

And, um, I know the, uh, I know the fans are excited for, for today and I'm, I'm definitely

going to tune into the volleyball game in between the football games. It depends who's on tonight

for football. Honestly, I gotta, I haven't checked the national schedule, but there's, um

Duke, Florida state, Utah, USC is another one. Then there's Michigan, Michigan state is also

playing tonight. So there's some good, there's some good games tonight. So there'll be a

you know, I've been, um, bring up Jim Harbaugh, but like the Jim Hart, I got the YouTube TV now

So at least, yeah, my dad does. And I've been using his subscription too. So, you know, you've

got the four, you've got the four channel thing. So that actually is, that is pretty game-changing

for college football watching. I will say that YouTube TV is kind of a game changer

Is it okay. That's good to know because I want to like save money on cable, but in doing so I

ended up signing up for like 25,000 streaming channels. So it's like, how much money am I

actually saving? So that's good. Yeah. That is a common, uh, yeah. YouTube TV, I'd say is the

best is the best one. I've the best alternative I've found. And yeah, it's just awesome. Cause

you can, you know, like I'm sitting there watching, you know, like if Nebraska gets lopsided

then you can, you know, go into the four, the four watch and it's pretty awesome. So, you know

just, just throwing it out there, not to do any free advertising, but back to football, I guess

you know, before we get too off track here, one thing I wanted to say that has me really excited

when you're talking about Nebraska fans being excited as the commitment of Caleb Benning like

that, like I was working last night when that actually came across and like, I was just gave a

fist bump into the air. Like I, I really want, I wanted Grant bricks. I still want

grant bricks, but I don't care about the rankings. I've wanted Caleb Benning so bad. So the fact that

he's committed, um, and locked in, like, let's go. I, I think this is going to be one of the

one of the guys that truly outplays his ranking. He's going to play like a blue chipper at

Nebraska. I don't understand the people who are, you know, kind of down on this commitment. I mean

from everything I've seen and, you know, from his play this season, he, he looks like he's going to

be a stud. He's a very instinctive player can come down, uh, from his position to make a play

He's also extremely athletic. Um, and he can, you know, break up passes with ease. And, you know

I just really like how it's another good in-state kid for Nebraska. And quite honestly, he decided

a lot sooner than I thought he would. Cause there was, there was a time when we thought he might

push it off to early signing day, but I'm glad he made his decision now. And that definitely

gives us a little bit more clarity as we head into early signing day. Um, so Fox was asking

you know, so are we going to get bricks? I don't know. I really don't know. Um, there was hard

Yeah. There's the Oklahoma people think that they have confidence, the Oklahoma reporters

Um, we talked about that earlier this week and on husky, big red.com. I mean, if you guys missed

that, but there was a, a sooner projection for grant bricks at on three. I don't think there's

been any crystal balls that have changed. So basically as it stands now, Nebraska, Kansas

state and Oklahoma have all got, um, you know, predictions from basically their own experts

but it does seem like Oklahoma has got some momentum. Um, one thing that's kind of interesting

is, uh, name is Andrew Dennis, the guy from Michigan state, Nebraska views him as a tackle

Like I see he's six, five and, um, you know, which is basically it's the same height as

grant bricks. Um, so there's a chance that he could come visit too. And I think that he's the

next guy on the board. So if they, you know, if you see more, maybe Dennis actually taking that

visit or, you know, more of a focus on him, maybe that is a little telling about, about grant bricks

but I don't think that he can, um, you know, count grant bricks as being, you know, part of

your class right now. It just, it seems like, you know, it just has taken him so long. I don't know

what, you know, why he's kind of, you know, why he's going through this process, but, uh, feels

like Oklahoma does have momentum. Nobody has been on a bricks has been on campus a couple of times

He, he came for an official visit and then I believe he also came for an unofficial visit

He hasn't taken any visits this fall though. So that has been kind of interesting

Notre Dame is interesting with Nelson. I mean, yeah, there's certainly, I wouldn't be overly worried, but to just completely gloss over Notre Dame would be

doing an extreme disservice. So I wonder what will happen there. I don't think anything is

going to happen, but you never know. You never, you never do know. I think, um, you know

Carter Nelson had that tweet yesterday with him punting. I don't know if you guys saw that

but I think the fact that he tagged Ed Foley in that tweet, you know, of him punk, like, Hey

Ed, I can, I could be your punt. Like Tim, I was a good, that just seemed like a good sign to me

Like I've said with the, I mean, if Carter Nelson just wants to leave the state of Nebraska

like, you know, I'm not going to hate him for that. I'm not going to hold that against him

Um, but not at all. And at the same time, I'm not going to sit here and be like

Oh, Nebraska did it. You know, Matt rule has done everything that he can do in terms of trying to

keep and recruit Carter Nelson. He's been to Ainsworth how many times he's got him to Lincoln

how many times. So if he doesn't end up at Nebraska, it's not for lack of trying. So

I think he wants, yep. Sorry. Go ahead. I just said, I think he wants to be here and I think

he will. Um, so yeah, I agree, Sam. I don't think he's going anywhere. And I think, uh

you know, maybe his family just liked Notre Dame and they're like, Oh, this might be a glitch. You know, you never know. I am taking it seriously. And Notre Dame is going to

you know, Marcus Freeman and those guys are legit, but I just, you know, I think he wants

to stay here and Nebraska is doing every, all the right things that they should be doing to keep him

And honestly, at this point in the game, there's no shame in losing a recruit to Notre Dame

when you lose to William and Mary and like Bucknell at Cornell and Dartmouth and whoever

that it's a little bit embarrassing, but Notre Dame is a big dog in the grand scheme of things

So even if he went to Notre Dame, I couldn't blame him. I mean, they are a tight end factory, but

I truly do think he's staying home. Honestly. I do too. And yeah, we'll see where things go

with it, but I'm, I'm still, you know, not that I want to get into confidence ratings or anything

but I'm still pretty confident in Carter Nelson staying not confident, not confident in Longland

grant bricks. I have no idea what's going to happen there. Um, but I am intrigued by, we were

talking about this off air, a couple of, uh, Juco guys, um, you know, we talked about demand

earlier this week and then Trey Richardson, who, you know, is a return guy. Um, you know

Brian Munson mentioned the name, um, uh, geez, I'm in a Pearson L the morning personnel. Um

you know, the, the, the dynamic return guy that we used to have back in the day

And it's like, you know, if you could, if you can get a return guy like that, I'm not saying that

this Trey Richardson guy can be that, but Nebraska has not had, I mean, the return game this year

hasn't been great either. And that's, you know, not taking shots at anybody, but if you can get

just the guy who can be a dynamic return guy, that's pretty valuable. So I'm, I'm definitely

for taking both of those Juco receivers. And it gives, and it gives Nebraska a little bit

more depth. I mean, that to me, when I, when I was writing about it yesterday on

Husker big red, I just looked at it from the depth aspect, like we need depth right now

And you know, that'll play a factor today when, when, uh, Malachi Coleman is starting and

Jalen Lloyd's on the two deep and we're going to get to see what they're made of today, but just

by and large, you need depth at the position. And people were asking in the off season, why

we were recruiting so many wide receivers. And what about this position and this and that? Well

losing, losing IGC and losing Xavier Betts, you know, was where big hits and suddenly your depth

looks a lot smaller than it was. So, you know, keep recruiting wide receivers. That's not something

the previous staff did and it, and we suffered dearly for it. So I would love to see either or

both, you know, be, be a part of this program because there is a need there, even with the

new guys coming in, in my opinion, you can never have too many wide receivers

Husker check. Notre Dame is wasting their time with Carter Nelson, but they don't realize that

hope you're right there, Husker check. Um, and then Sam, let's see, do you think that basically

do you think that Benning was connected to the, you know, Kaitlin Barta, um, kid is going to be

to Kansas state? I mean, yeah, honestly, kind of, I mean, I don't have any inside knowledge. I'm just

speculating, but they probably, the coaching staff probably knows what Barta is going to do

And so they kind of pushed a little harder on Benning and I'm thinking something along those

lines happen. I mean, you don't recruit if you already have a safety or yeah, a safety at the

position, you don't come here. Cause they also have, um, Rex Guthrie. So there is that as well

but I do think Barta and Benning were connected some way. You know, I think in potentially in

some way, and also the other side of it is that, you know, Kansas state, I think was one of the

teams that was interested in Benning, you know, and taking Barta. Um, I still think that even if

Barta was in the class, like, I don't think that would have recruited precluded Nebraska from

taking Kayla Benning. So I'm not sure how the timing all worked out, but, um, at any rate

I'm just glad that he's in the class. Um, because I, I do think that if he, if Nebraska, you know

hadn't signed him, which they still haven't, you know, but I'm assuming they will at this point

I think that they would have regretted that. So that's how I've always felt about it. So

whatever needed to happen, you know, if it was connected to Barta, if it wasn't, I'm just glad that he's part of this class and, uh, want to get to signing day. Um

yeah, about the demand kit. Yeah. I mean, I hear what you're saying, co I read the article from

what his coach said and the coach, you know, said positive things about him. So I don't want to take

too much from, uh, you know, one, you know, one video of it. It's hard to, it's hard to take too

much from the body language type thing. You know, I think that gets overread too much on the sidelines

We'll see what happens with that one, but I don't think that, you know, if I don't think that, I

think that Nebraska took their, I don't think they rushed into this thing. I think that they

did their homework on him and, uh, you know, it sounds like he's doing a good job of doing all

the things that he's supposed to do academically. Um, it didn't sound like he's a problem with the

coach there, so I'm all for it. And Nebraska needs, I mean, if the brass can get a five-star

talent, um, you know, I'm, I'm all for that. Yeah. And, you know, Matt rule has shown that he

you know, is, can give guys second chances and is willing to give guys second chances. So

um, you know, I feel like what happened in the past wouldn't become an issue here. If

if, um, if, if demons came to Lincoln, but you never know, you never know

So, uh, we got, you know, about 12 minutes here. We'll be hanging out for about 12 more minutes

Keep asking your questions, but what do you think about, you know, this Northwestern matchup? We

we broke it down the other day. Um, if you didn't get, uh, if you didn't see that checkout

the other day, but, um, yeah, I feel like I said, this matchup, uh, just really suits Nebraska. I

mean, Northwestern, not good at running the ball. They're not good at defending the run

Nebraska is obviously good in both of those areas, but, um, you know, we'll see if Ben Bryant plays

then that obviously is going to make their offense, you know, much different. And red zone execution for our offense is going to be my big thing today. I want to see us make

the most of each trip in the red zone. I mean, it was frustrating how many points we left on

the board against Illinois and, you know, Nebraska needs to start converting on these

opportunities. You know, I don't care if we're playing Northwestern. I don't care if we're

playing a lesser team. If you waste too many opportunities in the red zone, that's going to

come back to bite you. Yeah. And that's something that really has been, you know

I did a bit Nebraska against Minnesota. Um, even, even against, you know, that Colorado game could

have been a competitive game if Nebraska, you know, was able to take advantage of their scoring

opportunities early on. Um, so yeah, that is going to be a huge part of it. I'm wondering, um

you know, I'm still wondering if things are ever going to be different on the offensive line or if

Teddy Corcoran, I mean, uh, excuse me, Turner Corcoran is just gonna, you know, keep playing

that left tackle spot or forever going to see, you know, more of Teddy Prahaska there. Um

so yeah, I think, I think the, the big thing for me today though, is the defense and the running

game. You know, if Nebraska is good in those two areas, you know, with Harburg and Grant running

it. And if they play good defense, then I really don't see Nebraska losing this game

And then I guess the big thing for me, like I just said, is conversions and no dumb penalties

especially in the red zone. I mean, and I, and when I say dumb penalties, I mean, false starts

you know, I think it was, um, Corcoran, uh, two games ago, or maybe it was this past game

I can't remember who had two false starts on the same drive that can't happen. I mean

I don't care if your quarterback is Tom Brady, if you have two false stars in the same drive

that just makes life so difficult for your offense. And then in terms of, in terms of just

again, converting in the red zone that goes back to, you know, no stupid penalties, you know

making sure to not get too cute in the red zone. And also, you know, I'd love to see

more of a focus on running the football with the running backs in the red zone and see if we can

get anything going there. I understand depth isn't great, but I mean, at the very least

you know, they can get, you know, two or three yards here, make it manageable down a distance

situations in the red zone and being able to convert, you know, with those types of plays

would be important. Um, Husker Chuck says that he thinks it was Teddy that had the two false starts

I really, I don't remember. So I'm just throwing that out there. Um, but at any rate, I don't know

I'm just, I'm just saying the way the left tackle position is causing me great stress

and tremendous headaches. So left tackle, no freaking false starts. Yeah. Get your shit

together, whether it's 69 or 65, get your shit together, man. Um, anyways

Husker Chuck is predicting a 24 seven win says the D will come out smothering. I agree with that

Um, co, uh, sibs is saying 1713, Nebraska gets the wind. So, you know

that's too close. I like the way I like the, uh, go big red, Steve, go big red from Texas

This is the, this is the other thing too. Uh, with a false start, Brian Braschini get ready. And, uh, yeah, no, cause that's the thing. We don't have the offense

where you can get like 15 to 20 yard chunk plays and make, and make penalties go away like that

We penalties quite literally kill drives for us. Like it's not even a question

Um, pleasantly Husker Chuck is pleasantly surprised. I'm surprised too, with, with

banner. He has, he has improved and I want to give him credit for that. Donovan Rayola credit

for that. I don't know if he's going to be the, uh, the NFL tackle, but I mean, I think that

you know, somebody is probably at least going to sign that guy as a rookie free agent. I mean

he's six, eight, three 30 and he can, he's played some tackle. So yeah, it has been out of the

Corcoran Benhart duo. We've at least got one guy that's looking, you know, like his, uh

up to his recruiting, right? Cause that sounds mean. I feel mean that I said that, but I just

think Turner Corcoran should be playing guard. I think if he was playing guard, I think that I

just, I think he would be doing a much, I mean, and I know Nebraska is in a, in a, you know

stuck between a rock and a hard place because there's a reason he's still going out there

Cause Teddy's not quite himself, but at any rate, you know, uh, Corcoran, I hope he gets better

but, uh, you know, he's, he's doing the best he can. He's just not a left tackle. How will, how will Rymer play? He's in the hospital. You don't get to lift weights at

the training table. You eat cardboard and Jello. I mean, that is true. Um

I'm not expecting a huge game from him, but his mind and his ability to read defenses and call

plays, you know, is important as well. And I think that's something Nebraska was missing over

you know, the past couple of games when he was out, just like his ability to recognize defenses

and be able to kind of point guard, the, uh, point guard, the defensive unit is going to be

important. Even if he doesn't make 10 tackles today, I think that Luke Reimer is one of the

toughest guys on the team. And I don't, you know, I think if he's playing, I think he's going to be

you know, fairly close to a hundred percent. I just, you know, he's a tough ass dude and I

I expect him to, uh, you know, essentially be the Luke Reimer that, uh, that we all know

And, uh, yeah, I agree with you, Husker Chuck. I do think that Cochran would be a better guard

And, um, I think, you know, yeah, that's, you see a lot of tackles that can't, you know, they

they struggle in the past protection, but they kind of move inside and play better. I think

that he would play, he did, he did play better at guard last year. It just only lasted like a day

because Teddy got hurt and then he had to bump out to, but yeah, we need to, you need to get some

we need to get bricks or Andrew Dennis in this class. And then we need to get a

tackle or two in the portal. No doubt about it. With a lot of freshmen filling in on offense, who do you see as a playmaker for our offense today

I think Malachi Coleman. I mean, he had a, he had a catch the other day, you know, he had a good

block. Um, he had another pass where he was open where Harvard just missed him. So he's making

productive plays. And, um, I think that, you know, hopefully they were able to narrow down

that connection, but, um, Matt rule and others have talked about Jaden Doss a lot. So I wouldn't

be surprised if he, uh, if he came out of nowhere and made some plays too, it wouldn't be coming out

of nowhere actually. For me, it's Jalen Lloyd because he does very good at those end around

plays and he can come out of the backfield a little bit. And I think for this type of offense

you know, that versatility is very welcome. So I think he can make a big impact today

You know, I, I don't think he's the tall, tall, obviously, but downfield threat that Malachi

Coleman is, but I think that allows them to do other stuff besides just catch the ball as a

receiver. Brian travel, Brian Hickman, uh, comments that travel from Oklahoma to come

see Nebraska play, hoping for a solid performance, a solid game performance and Husker win go big

red. Uh, that's awesome, Brian. Um, congratulations just on being at the game and have a fun time

It's going to be a great experience. It's one of the best things you'll ever do. If you're

a Nebraska fan, um, you've got to go to Lincoln memorial stadium. You never forget it. I mean

you won't regret it either. Um, it's a magical place and, uh, hopefully the Huskers pull out a

win for you. I'm confident. I think they will. I think they will too. As long as they stick to

what they do best and don't make any stupid penalties, there's no reason why they shouldn't

be able to win this game. Yeah. I mean, they clearly have the talent advantage and, um

you know, I, like I said, I don't believe it's going to be like this, the 63 or whatever it was

56, 10. I mean, it'd be nice. I'd enjoy that. Um, I would love that, but, um, I do think that

Nebraska is the better team. I mean, it is tough though, because like we said, you know, with like

David Braun and Northwestern, you know, they're, they don't, they don't kill themselves. They don't

commit a lot of penalties. They don't turn the ball over. Um, you know, their turnover differential is

basically zero where Nebraska is minus 1.5 or whatever minus. So I give Nebraska is like

negative two and turnover differential. Like that's how they could lose this game, which is, uh, you know, very real possibility based on how the season has gone so far

I mean, I hope, I hope it's like a 56 to 10 win, but I just don't see the offense putting up that

many points. Um, I'm going to be interested to see how Harburg throws the ball today. Um, you know

throwing has been a little bit of an issue, but he's been able to get it done with his legs. I'll

be interested to see, you know, how he comes out this week and if he can, you know, play not, not

necessarily even at a high level, but just continue the way he has been no turnovers

no turnovers, a good throw, a key throw here and there when we need it. And, you know

just moving the ball down the field because although he doesn't put up 300 passing yard

games, you know, every single night he does move the football and he does take care of it. So

those two things will get you far, especially in the big 10. Fox was calling a shot 51, three, like it, like it. Um, and then, uh, let's see Steve with

Heinrich Carberg with the starting, staying, starting QB. Do you think they will mix in

Sims from time to time or only if Harb, if Harbor goes out, I probably going to say only if Harbor

goes out at this point. Cause yeah, I think so too. And I think part of it is like, Hey, you know

I get the idea. Um, like we can mix in Sims and he could run a little bit, but here's my thing

Okay. You've got two, you've got these two quarterbacks and I just, I don't think that

they're going to want to risk their backup quarterback getting hurt. You know, plus like

Harbor is already putting himself out there. They're very similar players. So I, I, I think

you know, they're going to keep Sims. Like if Sims has to go in, if Harbor goes out, then they're going to run Sims like, you know, like they did at the start of the season. But

I don't think that, uh, I don't think that we're going to see, uh, Jeff Sims. I mean

maybe if it is a blowout, I mean, I could see that, you know, um, maybe him and Brock Purdy

but I don't think like in a game competitive situation, we'll see Jeff Sims unless Harbor

gets hurt or definitely is really struggling. Definitely not Brock Purdy, but Chubba. Yeah

If we had Brock Purdy, we, we, we'd be, uh, we'd be in business, but that's not the first

time I've done that either. So we had Brock Purdy. We'd be, we'd, we'd be, uh, would be

styling. But no, I think, honestly, I have to say it's very matter of, it's very lucky that

uh, Heinrich Harburg has semi worked out. Cause if Jeff Sims was starting quarterback the whole

season and he didn't work out and we'll put all his eggs in the Sims basket, then that would look

even worse than it does now. And by all accounts, Sims has been handling it. Well, I can't imagine

it's easy for him to be on the sidelines. I wonder if he regrets coming here. Yeah

I, yeah, I'm not sure. I mean, you know, look, he, he had his chances. He just didn't, uh

he didn't play that well. And then, I mean, the other part of it, yeah, he, he lost, he got hurt

but Harburg's been winning the games. And, you know, from what, um, what Satterfield said that

you know, Jeff Sims has been one of their better leaders, you know, so I think he's still doing

what he's supposed to do. And, um, you know, it'll be interesting to see if he sticks around

after the season, you know, cause he, if, as long as he graduates, he can still transfer. So

um, as far as the wildcat, I don't, you know, I just don't see anybody really on this roster

That would be, I just don't know wildcat to me. The wildcat is okay. You know, it's basically

I mean the wildcat, we essentially have Heinrich Harburg around the wildcat. Cause the whole point

of the wildcat is to get an extra blocker. You know what I mean? To, to focus, to square things

up with the defense. And when you're running the quarterback, it's already doing that just NFL

teams don't want to run Tom Brady. That's why they, that's why the wildcat is more of an NFL

type deal, you know, and the Dolphins started doing it because they had Chad Pennington at the time

It's like, yeah, you're obviously not going to run any type of running play with Chad Pennington

So that's Pennington. What a name, but yeah. So that's the way to even up blockers. So I don't

really see, see it from Nebraska cause they're, they're basically just running that power option

type stuff. And I think that's where it's going to stick. I remember Ronnie Brown destroying

new England with the wildcat when he was a member of the Dolphins and Ronnie Brown was a good running back. That was the first, yeah. The first Ronnie Brown was the first guy who, uh, or that

the Patriots were the first ones who did the wildcat or who got the wildcat done against them

which was, yeah, I remember that game and everybody was pissed, including myself. Yeah. Lost that one to the Dolphins. So in any rate, um, well guys, I gotta get going here. So

um, thanks everybody for joining us on the chat. Um, yeah, Husker check almost wildcat. Yep. Yeah

exactly. Basic. Yeah. Cause when you, when your quarterback can run, um, that then you've got an

extra blocker already. So that kind of squares it up. Um, so basically, yeah, we're, we're

essentially kind of running the wildcat just, uh, out of a power formation

And, and, and to answer Cole's question, I don't think so. I mean, we saw this with the

coldest Crawford too. So, I mean, yeah, I don't, I think that the, you are going to see at some

point teams, you know, being, you know, wanting to play the players on the good players on the

roster, you know, but it is what it is. It's, it's like an, it's any investment. Sometimes they work

out, sometimes they don't. And I think Sam's right here. I think, you know, even though he's

not a leader on the field due to his injuries or play or whatever, you know, Sims kind of

graciously accepting the backup quarterback role is, is, is definitely a huge thing for this program

And, you know, say what you want about his play, but the way he's handled this is

has been extremely strong and, you know, extremely positive. So he definitely deserves credit there

you know, and he's, he's helped out Heinrich too. I think, I mean, you can see him on the sidelines

So I'm a hundred percent, you know, I love to see that from Jeff Sims and yeah, if he wants to stick

around here or go somewhere else, you know, I'll always be a rooting for him. And hopefully he'll

get some chances to play because hopefully I can't remember who said it, but hopefully we're at 56 to

three and we get to see Jeff Sims play today. So, Hey, let's do it. We'll just like 2021
