Nebraska football pre-game chat: The Colorado game has arrived

Good morning, Nebraska football fans. Welcome back to the Husker Big Red YouTube channel

I'm Chris Peterson and joining me. Well, not joining me quite yet is Danny Gillette. Hopefully

he'll be joining me here soon. But yeah, today is the day you guys welcome to the pregame

chat for Nebraska and Colorado. Hopefully you'll be joining us here on Facebook and

YouTube and other social media channels. Hop in the chat here. We are about a little under

12 hours away from kickoff tonight between the Huskers and the Buffaloes at Lincoln Memorial

Stadium. And it's one that, you know, we've all been waiting for quite a long time. It's

finally here. We're going to have to just get through the day. But if you, you know

want to hop on here for the pregame chat, you can throw some questions in, throw some

comments. We'll probably cover some predictions here. Hopefully we will get Danny here on

the chat. Not sure exactly what's going on there, but if not, I'll just roll through

as well in the future. And yeah, looking ahead to this matchup, Nebraska a seven and a half

point favorite today against Colorado. Nothing has really changed, you know, in regards to

that the Huskers, you know, over a touchdown favorite, they obviously lost last year's

game 36 to 14 in Boulder. So, you know, that was obviously a tough day for Nebraska fans

And we've been waiting for this opportunity, you know, to get some revenge. And basically

after a long wait, a long year, we are back. You know, we get that opportunity tonight

to see the Huskers try to make the make things right against the Buffaloes here. So just

kind of covering a few things, you know, looking ahead to this matchup, Colorado obviously

want to know after its win over North Dakota State, Nebraska want to know after beating

UTEP last week. And yeah, let's just go through some of the some basic predictions, I guess

until you know, people want to join with questions in the chat. On Friday, I broke down, you

know, five predictions that I think will come true in this matchup on Saturday between the

Huskers and the Buffaloes. So let's just go through those. And to start, I think that

Nebraska is going to outrush Colorado. And I think that's going to be a huge key for them going forward. And if that doesn't happen, I really have a tough time seeing Nebraska

win this football game, time of possession, you know, keeping Dylan rail rile up in a

manageable down and distances, I think it's going to be vital for the Huskers today. And

I just think they have an advantage over Colorado up front, I did a little EA Sports College

football 25 simulation. And anytime the buffs had six guys in the box in the box, I ran

it right at him. And it worked like a charm. So I ended up beating them in that game. And

that's what needs to happen today. Nebraska needs to establish the run, they need to be

patient, they need to get all four of these backs going. And if they can do that, keep

shooter Sanders on the sideline. I think that's going to be a positive for Nebraska. So I've got a few people in here, co subs, deon. Nice to see you, Chris. Let's start with the gym

Will Heinrich Harbor play in the game against Colorado? Yes, I do think that I will see

Heinrich today. I don't know if it's going to be just as a running type of thing. Maybe

we'll see him in, you know, trick play, I continue to believe that, you know, I hear so

many things that about how he's improved as a quarterback. So I do feel like at some point

they're going to try them out there in that power run formation, or, you know, kind of

showing that QB power run, and then they're going to play action pass with them. Maybe

that happens today. I'm not sure. But I do think that we'll see Heinrich Harbor today

Colorado 56 to 28 in the EA Sports College football 25 simulation. So hopefully it goes

like that today. That would be pretty awesome. Did we put x lax in Colorado's Gatorade yet

Well, hopefully somebody in the equipment staff is doing that. You know, whatever you have to do

to try to help the Huskers today, I always ask myself, what have I done today? To, you know

help the big red. So all right, here, it looks like we got Danny joining us here. How's it going

Danny? Good. Just woke up, but I'm ready to go. Colorado day, man. Are you psyched for the

buffaloes? Yes. The only reason I'm not excited is that I have to wait around all afternoon for

this game. Yeah, I was ready for this game he played yesterday. Hell, I was ready for this game

he played on Monday. So I'm not excited for the wait, but there's some good college football games

in between. I'm going to watch your Wolverines get slaughtered by the Longhorns and and yeah

and we'll see what else happens throughout the day. He's alive. I'm alive. So I am barely

but we're here and I missed my microphone. So hold on. But yeah, what do you Heinrich Harburg

That's kind of one topic of discussion. So what do you Danny, what do you think his role could be

today against the Buffs? Red zone type of player, you know, kind of a gadget player in the red zone

I hate that term, but I could see him getting some handoffs and runs in certain packages and

things like that, because I think it's going to be, you know, very tight for the Nebraska

receivers in that area. Colorado's defensive backs are much, much better than UTEPs. And so I think

you know, combined with the fact that Colorado has difficulty stopping the run, I think we can

see Harburg in some sort of run packages in the red zone. Yeah, it'll be interesting. They keep

talking about also how he is throwing the ball better than ever. So I'm curious to see if they

you know, ever given a chance to, you know, play action pass. Which honestly I can buy

What's up with that, man? Honestly, I can buy because I saw it during the spring game. I mean

and he looked really good throwing the ball in the spring game. And so I definitely think that's a real thing and not necessarily hyperbole

Defensive backfield will have to be on their toes. I think it goes, I think it goes

comes down and goes down to turnovers and penalties. And whoever wins that wins the game

So yeah, I mean, I definitely could see, you know, the winner of the turnover battle

winning this game. I definitely don't think, I do think honestly, I think Colorado has to

win the turnover battle to win this game. I don't think Nebraska has to, but I think Colorado

needs to win the turnover battle because I don't think they're as good as Nebraska, you know, up and down the roster. They got the two superstars for sure. But, but, you know

up and down the two deep, Nebraska is a better football team. I'm going to say three superstars

because Jimmy Horn Jr. deserves his credit too. I mean, he's a baller. He is a baller

Yeah. And not to, not to play semantics here, but I think I just give credit where it's due

In my opinion, I would give Jimmy Horn in that title. He is a playmaker much like his father was

And so on the night, Dion, we must own the night. Yeah. Hopefully Lincoln Memorial Stadium can be

you know, a big advantage for the Huskers tonight. You know, they tend to, you know

play better at home, but they need to win a game like this. It's been a long time since they've won

a game like this, you know, where they're kind of have the spotlight on them in primetime or

just having the spotlight on them. You know, they, they lost Colorado last year. They lost

I mean, I just can't think of a big time matchup that Nebraska has been in that they've won

you know, in these last five, six, seven years. So they just need to get it done tonight

What's the last big time matchup that they've had like this, regardless of winner loss

what's the last matchup in your opinion? My, my vote will go to 2021 Michigan, but

Yeah, I'd say Michigan. But I mean, even that Nebraska team, I think was three and three

going into that game. So like, even that was like watered down a bit where this team

I feel like, you know, it's, it's one to know this is just such an important game for this team, in my opinion, because they, they are still learning how to win

They still need that belief that, you know, we're not going to fall apart at the end of

the game because make no mistake, that's there. That's still there in the back of their minds

And Matt rules, I think done a great job to try to get past that they focused on all off season

but you still at some point have to do it, right? Like you have to find a way to do those things

you haven't done before. And I think if Nebraska can win this game, I just think it's going to do

so much for their confidence. I think they're truly, truly going to believe in themselves

and the message that Matt rule selling even more than they are now. I do think they believe in themselves, but like once you go out and win a game like this and beat a team that beat you by

22 last season, I just think the confidence that this team will have going forward will just be

night and day for, for what the results on the field. Speaker 1 Agreed. And, you know, I think nationally people will start to take notice. I mean

you've already seen how many people have talked about Dylan Riola over this last week. You had

Nick Saban giving him a shout out the other day, Pat McAfee giving him a shout out, you know

big 10 freshmen of the week. I mean, so he's already getting his flowers and I think a star

a strong showing, maybe not even a win, but another strong showing could continue that kind

of a buzz around him. And he deserves that buzz. It's not, it's not fake, but it's very real

Um, and, uh, yeah, co worried a little bit about Hartsog back there. I mean

you know, he had one, he gave up the one play. I'm not overly concerned about him. He has

he came back with the interception. I mean, you're going to get beat sometimes it just, that just happens, but yeah, I'm not sure exactly who we're going to put on Jimmy Horn

junior. I'm assuming it would be, you know, Buford maybe Hartsog, but, um, yeah, that's

probably what they'll do. But, you know, the thing that Tommy Hill needs to have a big game tonight

because the thing to me is that, you know, not that you want to help off Travis Hunter

I'm not saying that, but I don't think you can sit there and focus solely on Travis Hunter. Like

you know, your entire defense, like shading over to stop him. He's going to get his

just make sure that you keep that stuff to, you know, like 20 yards, not 50. Don't give up 50

60 yard touchdowns, make them go down the field, make them pick up the third downs

make them execute in the red zone. And if we can do that home to some field goals

that's how I think we can keep them in the mid twenties, as opposed to the mid thirties. Yeah. And I mean, you know, like we talked about on the last show, he's going to get his

you know, and I think, and I think as long as we minimize, um, what he can do, then I think

you know, Nebraska has a shot at winning this game. Um, I did Google, uh, let's see here. Somebody posted, um, CM Tim. See, I did check to see if

there's any information I don't, I haven't said, and it came back with nothing from, uh, Google

So I don't know about the officials tonight, but usually it's, uh, like a, uh, like the ACC or

somebody. So I'm, I'm guessing it's going to be, you know, not the big 10 or not, uh, you know

the Bay or, um, the big 12 now, I guess, which Colorado is back in the big 12. So weird

That's a, that's been a frequently asked question this week. So I'm, I'm, I'm glad that came up

again. Yeah. Officiating, you know, just, uh, I mean, it wasn't good last night in the, in the

Packers game. Um, it wasn't good in the, uh, in the first, in the Thursday night game either. So

the NFL has an officiate has a field was terrible not to get too off on it. So I drove it. That

field is terrible. I hope they never play in Brazil again. If Jordan loves hurt for the season

I'm just going to be, I'm not even going to watch the NFL this year. Uh, let's see what else do we got? Um, cause the season will be over, dude. Like literally

so honestly, at least I'll have, but at least I'll have, you know, like the hope of Mac Jones

like the Packers are gonna have like Malik, I mean, sorry. Yeah. Um, who's the backup for the

Packers? Nobody. I don't think it's Malik Willis. So nobody basically. So they're screwed no matter

what. I mean, either way though, unless honestly, this is what I would, if I was the green Bay

Packers, you know, I'd call Tom Brady. I'm not even joking you because who else does nobody else

can play? Like nobody else in that, that you could find could do it. But I still think Tom Brady can

play. I honestly do. So I would call him up and be like, and see if he wants to quit far. I think

he would. I think he would quit Fox in a minute and go play NFL football if he had a chance

Honestly, I think that'd be stupid because he's making so much money on Fox just to talk sports

But I think he could go back when he wants to just take a break, just take a break, go

go play for the Packers. See if he can still play and then go back next year. Where's Matt Flynn and Scott Tulsi when you need him, right

Yeah, exactly. Uh, let's see. Here's a Colorado guy. You, you will need to slow the game down

If it's a shootout, see you will win. I mean, yeah, I agree with that. Uh, Colorado's I think

going to have to stop the running game. And it's like I said, you know, when I played college

football 25, man, every time they had a light box, I ran the ball. It didn't matter if it was third

and eight. I ran the ball at him. And that's what I think Nebraska is going to do tomorrow. Cause

true. I mean, look at last year, Colorado didn't stop the run. Nebraska just got down

by so much. They couldn't run it anymore. So, you know, that there goes that

I just hope Satterfeld gets the memo that we need to run against Colorado. Um, cause he

last season, there were times when he would just be allergic to the running game last week. He was, and he actually did it pretty well, but I hope we run early and often

This is a good game to get over past frustrations. Yes. But if it goes the other way

so I'm going to be so frustrated. Um, keep Hunter Hunter and horned under 250 yards and we should

be okay. I, I agree with that. I mean, Shutter Sanders is going to throw for 300 yards. I mean

he's just going to like, but you know, it's, you look at, you know, I mean, Michigan

when Michigan beat Ohio state twice, I mean, CJ Stroud threw for over 300 yards both times

in the games that he played, but it was empty. It didn't matter. And he didn't execute in the

red zone. And that's what, that's the thing here with, with Nebraska is I think they need to almost

make it. So, you know, sugar has to be perfect tonight and as good as he is with as much

pressure as I, I think he's going to face, I don't know that he's going to be able to live up to that standard. Yeah. Um, he's just such a dynamic player and it's easy to hate on him

because he's kind of annoying sometimes, but he is absolutely a talented quarterback without a doubt

Um, so we'll see how the culture will handle being punched with the faith in the face with long TDS. If that happens, will they buckle or fight back? Uh, everyone will be shocked if they

buckle could be telling for coach that's from co subs. So yeah, we'll, we'll see what, uh

what happens there. If they do give up a long play or something, um, which actually happened

to me, I gave up a 75 yard touchdown on the first drive because Isaac Gifford, not my, not me playing

Isaac Gifford missed the tackle. And, uh, but it came back, it was fine. I almost quit. I almost

thought about quitting and throwing the controller, but I, I persevered and I won. So that's what

Nebraska will do. Yeah. That's something that's going to be interesting to see how they call

don't call the, the offensive pass interference. Cause that could change the game in a major way

Yeah. It'll be interesting to see, you know, if they press with Tommy Hill. I mean, I think they should some, um, you know, get up on and get physical, like hit these guys

Um, let's see. I would almost rather play soft coverage against, against these wider

series just because you'd give up the risk of having a big play. I mean, their speed is incredible

Yeah. It looks like more Colorado fans. Um, yeah. Tom would be in the cold and give up his 300. Why would you, I wouldn't

hell no. I would not at all. He's making more now than he did in his playing days

I don't know, man. There's people that said they, they never thought that he would ever make it to the broadcast booth. So, I mean, I just, I don't know because I think he could still

pause his deal and go back to it. So I don't know, man, it's Tom

Cause he left Greg Olson without a job once he took the deal. So yeah, Tom Brady cares. I don't

think, I don't think Tom Brady cares. I mean, he blew, he blew up his marriage to go back and play

a season with the bucks. So I don't think he, I don't think he gives two craps about Greg Olson

or Fox or anything. I mean, he probably won't, but I would still call him. Honestly, if my wife

was cheating on me with the yoga instructor and I found out I would blow my marriage to play

football to get that back, Tom. Let's see. Let's see. I'd be more worried about the Colorado

interior O-line. Let's see. I'm not sure exactly what he's talking about there, but

yeah, I mean, I guess I would be, if I was a Colorado fan, I would be worried about the

the Colorado O-line. And look, I mean, the last day, Dallin, Dallin, he did nine attempts for 20

yards last week. And so basically you have some Colorado people saying that, you know, the media

has been hyping up Nebraska and that's true. I mean that I think that that is true, but and yeah

we'll see. I mean, if Colorado comes in and beats Nebraska, I'll give them their credit. I gave them

their credit last year. No Nebraska did, you know, shoot themselves in the foot a lot. I don't think

Colorado was 22 points better than Nebraska last season. And it played out that way. They won four

games. I mean, Colorado, like that's the thing. Your Colorado fans are talking tough. You won four

games in one of the crappiest conferences in college football. Like you guys have nothing to

talk about except you beat us last year. So we'll see what happens tonight. But like, I would not

be happy if I was a Colorado fan, I would not be happy with the job that shoulder that's Dion

Sanders has done. Cause dude, what's going to happen when Travis Hunter and shoulder Sanders

leave? Like you have nothing, you have literally nothing to get excited about as a program. We have

Dylan, we have Dylan Riola, dude, like Dion Sanders is going to be gone and Dylan Riola is

going to be taking us to the college football playoff. So just get out of here with Colorado

people. So on the subject of talent and whatnot, what's the status of Cortez Mills visit

Is he still coming? Yeah, he's coming. Yep. Cortez Mills. Yeah. All those guys are coming

Um, Michael Terry, I wonder if Oklahoma, I heard that they said he could come to Lincoln. So I'm

hoping they didn't pull his offer. Uh, I don't think so. Maybe they just got a little more

flexible. I mean, teams tend to, they always have these policies of like, Oh, if you go somewhere

else, we'll pull your scholarship. But then they're like, Oh, it's the top two the other day

Like, Oh, if that was a Nebraska kid, you'd want them to pull, you'd want them to pull

you know, our offer. No, I wouldn't. I mean, it's part of the process. And there are fans

that are like, Oh, we pull his offer. If he goes to another school, no, that's the stupidest thing

I've ever heard. He's trying to make the best decision for himself and how he fits into this

next chapter of life. I would, I would not be happy with pulling a kid's offer because he went

to go visit another school, you know? I don't know. No, that doesn't make sense. People get

way too, way too crazy about it. And I think that's, um, I think it's stupid to have a no

visit policy like that. So, so maybe, um, Oklahoma softened on that, but see, that was from that

that was years ago at Clemson and Dabows always had that. And Brent Bennebos obviously was his

defensive coordinator for years. So, um, that's why like when you always, when you get like

Clemson kids on campus, like the team reporters, like would barely report it because the kids

the kids didn't want it out there, you know? So it is what it is, but yeah, Mitch, um

you know, just responding to the CU guy, uh, their, their center in Colorado couldn't handle

a 270 pounder from NDSU hut maker is a different animal. So it's Ty Robinson and Jamari Butler

I think Nebraska has got three guys on the defensive line that are going to play in the NFL

So, and maybe honestly, James Williams, I've been really high on James Williams for a while. And I'm wondering what he's going to do

tonight because we know about Nash. We know about Ty, we even the, you know, nationally are starting

to know about Jamari. I'm curious to see what James Williams does tonight. And yeah, I'll give

the Colorado. You do have to, you know, watch out for some of these other receivers too. It's not just horn and Hunter. He is right. Will Shepherd, um, you know, Western, they do have, they do have

plenty of talent there. There's no, and that's the thing when you have a good quarterback

you know, you can get the ball to your weapons, but, uh, you know, Dion, I'll go back to your

comment here, Mitch. Um, you can't win taking 60 transfers in the next year, dumping and taking 60

more. Uh, yeah, well, that's what I think, but you know, we'll see from Mitch Colorado is a bad team

three sectional players, which makes things interesting and exciting, but it doesn't do much in the long run for the program success. It does get likes though, and social media attention

which is what, which is the coach Sanders culture. And yeah, I've never, I've never

seen a coach with his own YouTube channel and you know, that's just, it's mind boggling to me

Well, I mean, he's an own brand in, in of himself. So it's not that shocking to me. I mean

people know who coach prime is in prime time is so I, that that's not surprised me. The

the, what is surprising me is that there's cameras everywhere, always feeling what they do

Yeah. Well, that's what I mean. Yeah. Like the reality show stuff. Yeah. Like that part of it

is weird to me, you know, but, uh, so if OU in terms of a Cortez mills is okay with him visiting

that means he's just here for the game and OU isn't worried. I mean, I wouldn't say

I wouldn't necessarily mean it like that. I just, I think that they're probably, you know, they get, they get on the stance where they're like, we're going to pull your scholarship

if you leave. And I think, you know, Cortez mills is such a special player. I don't think you would

do that. So that's, that's my read on it more that they're, they're just like trying to soften

that up. Cause they want to try to keep them and not, not ruin that relationship because

that's just a tough thing. You know, then you make the choice, like, Hey, if you're taking that business, then you're done with our school. And, and I don't think you want to give that

ultimatum to a 17, 18 year old kid. No. And, you know, truthfully, if I was in Oklahoma

the one thing that wouldn't worry me about Nebraska is the fact that Nebraska has a ton

of receivers already. Not that we wouldn't take Cortez mills, but just speaking in terms of depth

I just need our defense to stay poised. Don't overshoot, watch out for improvised

plays from their wideouts. We should, we should do good. Yeah. Just limit the explosives

just limit the explosive plays. That's, that's my biggest thing. So unfair. We don't play the

puffs next year too. We destroy them. I mean, yeah, you're right. We would, I think you're

you're not wrong in that regard, but Dion is right. They, they're the same team they were last

year because they flipped the roster every off season. You can't coach and develop success like

that. And yeah, we'll see. I mean, everybody, you know, everybody's saying that you know

Nebraska should win this matchup. And but you know, I don't know, Joel, Joel Klatt seems to

think that Colorado is going to win eight, nine games this year. So I usually respect what he

says, but that doesn't mean I think they're going to beat Nebraska. But I do think it

this is a win that if Nebraska can get, it would maybe look better as the season goes on. I don't

think Colorado is going to win four games again this year in the big 12. No, I'm so I'm thinking

nine and three. I haven't looked at their schedule closely enough to say one way or another, but I

would think they would at least get to a bowl game, but the return game can make a difference

Yeah. I mean, we already had more, what was a partner turn yards last week than we did the

entirety of the 2023 season. So, well, I think like half we had, like, I think last year we

had like 40 something or maybe, maybe you could be right on that. I could be thinking it wrong

but at any rate, I, because I think IGC had more than we, than we had the entire 2023 season

which is great. Yeah. Or at least a big, or at least like a big chunk of it. So, I mean

if it's not, it was not great. Okay. What let's go. So we got about seven minutes here. You guys

have got to stick tight to the timeline. I got daddy, daddy, father duties. I have to take care

of here. So let's yeah. So let's, let's start, let's do these last seven minutes here with our

score predictions. And I just wanted to say hello to Fousey. Are you guys G seven? No, we are

I'm not sure what conference I think conference-wise like group seven. Oh, Oh, in terms of Colorado, I'm there in the, they're in the power for, cause it's eight. I mean

they're in the mid to I'll say there's the big 10, the SEC, then there's the ACC, the big 12

and then everybody else. So 40, 25 to 42. So is that your prediction, Mitch Nebraska or Colorado

What's I'm not sure on that. Maybe clarify a negative Mike 38, 21, Nebraska. Cause I can't

see Mitch picking Colorado after all of his talk. So Santa's generating a lot of revenue for CU and

making you see irrelevant. I mean, yeah, but there wasn't very many people at this year's spring

game. Was there, you know, I'm not sure. No, but you see how much attention they got nationally

Like, you know what I mean? So Mitch, okay. 25 yards returning 42 last year. So, so yeah

Castaneda got about 60% of the year returning total last year in like three returns

So everybody dropped their score predictions in the chat and then we'll give ours, I guess

and Jim Allen 34, 24 which so yeah, mine's going to be the same. I say 30, Mitch says 36, 21

Nebraska, Brian Hickman, 38, 28. If Nebraska can contain Cheddar I'm going to say for mine

I'll throw mine in the chat 34, 24. And I think it's going to be, it's going to feel like an NFL

game. Cause it's going to go quick because Nebraska is going to run the ball. Dylan rail

I think is going to complete a lot of passes. Maybe not a ton, maybe not throw for a ton of

yards. Maybe, maybe even throw for like fewer yards than last week, you know, like 205, 210

yards, but complete a high percentage. Nebraska is going to run like 70, 80 plays. Colorado is

going to run 50 and we're going to win. 34, 24, cover the spread. 42, 31, Nebraska. I think it's

going to be a shootout, honestly. And that's due to the two great offenses and not necessarily bad

defense. I mean, you gotta, you gotta give credit where it's due. And I think these offenses will

have both have good games, but I think Nebraska will prevail. 27, 24. Maybe a win, but went on

the last second field goal. I like this score about a million to nothing Nebraska. I'll take

that. If that's a score that I can, then I can watch the game easy tonight. Yeah. It looks like

we have somebody in here that was posting some things that shouldn't be posted. Yeah

Anyway, try to ignore that. Yeah. We'll have, we'll go through and delete those comments. I'm

not sure what's going on with that, but that's unfortunate. Yeah. I would, I would assume he

probably is from Colorado. I'm just kidding. I don't have anything against the Colorado people

but anyone have any worries about Indiana? Yes, I am. I am worried about, I mean, I'm worried

about Indiana and Purdue cause I don't think any big 10 road game is a, is a gimme. So

Indiana has got a potent offense too. So they do, they do have a potent offense and yeah, I like their coach. So
