In this video I'm going to show you how you can outline text in Canva
0:04
But before I do that, consider subscribing to my YouTube channel where each week I'll be uploading new videos on a variety of different topics
0:11
So thank you for your consideration and now let's talk a little bit about Canva
0:15
So if you're like me, you've tried to create images where your text is sometimes a little
0:20
bit hard to read and it would be great if there was a way that you could just outline
0:23
text in Canva. But one of the things that you'll notice is if you click on effects, there isn't a text
0:29
outline or a stroke that's available as an effect for your text
0:33
So I'm going to show you a way that you can add an outline around your text that might
0:38
make it a little bit easier for your viewers to be able to read. So to do this I'm just going to duplicate my text, bring it down to this slide too where
0:46
I can show you how to do this. So the first thing we're going to do is highlight the text that we want to draw the outline
0:52
around and I'm going to go to the option that says effects and I'm going to choose the option
0:57
that says splice. Now you'll notice that it kind of inverted my colors so the white text color that I had
1:04
before is now a white outline color and it added its own fill color which is this grayish color
1:12
So the first thing that I want to do is just set the colors the way that I want them to be so I'm just going to go here and I'm going to make this fill color white because my original
1:20
text was white and now I'm going to go up to the top and I'm going to make the outline
1:26
a black color just like that. Now this looks okay but if you look closely you're going to see that it's not completely
1:35
filled it doesn't quite look right and that's because we have to adjust some of our settings
1:39
for this effect to make it look more like a regular outline
1:43
So I'm going to go to effects again, I'm going to choose that splice outline and this time
1:48
what I can do is just change this direction back to zero like that
1:55
Okay that looks good but not quite perfect yet. If I just play around with this offset option until it's about even it looks like at about
2:05
20 this should be good. Let me zoom in. Okay that's looking good that looks just like a regular outline
2:13
Okay so now I have my text it is outlined in black and if I wanted to I could even go
2:17
and play around with the thickness of that line to an extent
2:21
There we go. So that's something that now looks now that's probably too thick of an outline for this
2:26
particular font but hopefully this gives you an idea. So let me show you one other thing that you may want to try if you think that this outline
2:33
is a little bit too heavy for your text. I'm just going to duplicate I'm going to set no effect and I'm just going to change this
2:41
text back to white. There we go. Okay the other option and this is what I had done before I realized that there was this
2:48
outline option. If you go to effects and this time we're not going to choose splice but we're going to
2:52
choose shadow. Again it's hard to see but there is a white shadow behind my text
2:57
I'm going to go to black. You can see now it is giving us a little bit of depth for those text characters
3:03
If I go back to effects and now if I take the transparency and turn it all the way to
3:09
100 it's a little bit thicker. This does make the text a little bit easier to read it can stand out a little bit more
3:16
on the page and of course you can go back into your effects and play around with the
3:20
direction of that shadow as well as where you want that shadow to be offset kind of
3:26
like that. So that's another option as well. So hopefully this video gave you some options for outlining or making your text stand out
