0:00
hello good morning and i hope you had a great um resurrection day i talked about why
0:06
the resurrection is so important to us as believers and why without the resurrection there
0:13
is no salvation so i talked about that in a post that i wrote on my website so you can check the
0:18
link below i'll provide you with that but today we're gonna continue our series on the book of first john
0:25
and today we are doing first john three verse one to ten and the title that i chose was the
0:31
implication of god's love and that's what we're going to be looking at but before we get into it i'm going to
0:38
give you my intro so basically in our last uh session we talked about how john
0:44
was warning his primary readers and us about the last hour and his characteristics so
0:51
we talked about the appearance of many uh antichrist being the evidence that we really are
0:58
nearing the end times and john also gives us in that chapter uh new ways to identify those who are
1:04
opposed to the lord okay and then he reassures those who belong to jesus
1:10
that they don't have to be worried about anything because of the presence of the holy spirit in their lives
1:16
and the holy spirit one of his uh roles is to guide us into all the truth so we talked
1:22
about that and then john also talks about the fact that denying on christ is synonymous to denying his
1:29
father so no one would deny this the the son jesus knows god so if you deny jesus as
1:36
being the ultimate the the only son of god then you're denying god uh himself
1:44
because we all there's a saying like father like son jesus is one with the father he existed
1:51
for all eternity so if you deny the son you're also denying the father so today we are going to be
1:57
starting uh chapter three and chapter three uh we it's going to focus on god's love and what the implication of
2:05
god love is in our lives so i'm gonna take it one verse at a time
2:11
okay so we're gonna go to verse one and in verse one the scripture says see what kind of love
2:18
the father has given to us that we should be called children of god and so we are
2:26
the reason why the world does not know us is that he did not know him him being jesus so basically
2:34
john is saying it is a privilege to be called a child of god being called the child of god is the
2:41
epitome of the abundance of the love of god poured on those whom he has chosen
2:47
and to truly understand the magnitude of this love we need to go to ephesians one and and we're gonna be looking at um
2:54
verses one through ten okay listen to what scripture says so i'm gonna pause for a second i'm gonna grab the
3:00
scripture and we're gonna read that so let's read ephesians 1 verse 1-10
3:05
listen paul an apostle of christ jesus by the will of god to the saints who are in ephesus and are
3:12
faithful in christ jesus grace to you and peace from god our father and the lord
3:18
jesus christ blessed be the god and father of our lord jesus christ who
3:24
has blessed us in christ with every spiritual blessing in the in the heavenly places okay
3:31
remember we talked about how great the law of the father's lavish terms that we should be called
3:36
children of god so this is what god has done for those whom he has chosen the scripture says he has blessed us in
3:43
christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places how and why even as he has chosen he
3:51
chose us in him who in who in jesus before the foundation of the world that
3:56
we should be holy and blameless before him you see god has given us the position
4:04
of christ jesus is holy and blameless and because of jesus because we were
4:10
chosen in jesus we have the same spiritual blessing we have the same uh we have inherited that
4:17
which belongs to jesus he seated us with christ in the heavenly places okay listen to this in love
4:26
he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through jesus christ so we were
4:32
chosen in christ according to the purpose of his will to the praise of his glorious grace
4:38
with which he has blessed us in the beloved so he chose us in christ he has given us all these things because
4:44
of his son jesus christ okay this is by the grace of god there is nothing that we've done
4:50
to deserve any of this okay in him listen to what we have we have
4:55
redemption through his blood the forgiveness of our trespasses according to the riches of his grace
5:02
which he lavished upon us in all wisdom and insight making known
5:08
to us the mystery of his will according to his purpose which is set forth in christ as
5:14
a plan for the fullness of time to unite all things in him things in heaven and things on earth
5:20
see god has disclosed to his chosen ones the mystery of his will okay he has
5:27
showed showed us that we belong to him okay through christ our eyes have been
5:34
opened we've been given this privilege to be seated with christ in their heavenly places and
5:40
those that know jesus it is a privilege this is why john is saying how great
5:45
the law of the father has lavished us that we should be called children of god because we were chosen in christ okay because god loves his son
5:53
so much he has chosen us in his son okay to be the righteousness of god so he has
6:00
blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places because of jesus
6:06
this is the privilege that we've been given and i don't fully comprehend it like i don't fully understand the whole
6:12
thing i'm like i know it's like cognitively i get it but sometimes it is hard for me to like
6:19
comprehend what that means like i don't i read it and i see it and i say oh lord please help me to understand
6:26
what it means to me right now like i don't fully comprehend it i see it and i read it but i wanna experience it
6:34
not just understanding like cognitively i wanna know that i know that i know i wanna live it out okay so let's go
6:42
back to our presentation now listen to what the scripture says next
6:48
um actually not my presentation like i said as i write this i don't fully comprehend
6:53
the magnitude of the love of god towards sinners like you and i it is hard for us to understand and
6:59
grasp it because we are still living in this corrupted body and sometimes we think
7:04
that god loves us because of who we are now god doesn't love you or not because of who we are he loves us because of his
7:11
son he chose us in christ okay there's nothing that you and i
7:17
can do to earn that love god poured his love on us because of jesus he chose us in christ
7:23
because he loves his son so much that he purchases us okay he chose us in christ not because of anything that
7:30
you and i have done because what we deserve is his wrath but he chose us in the beloved
7:36
okay so he has freely poured his love on us because he chose us in jesus
7:41
he loves us because of his great love for his son jesus i still don't think i fully comprehend
7:47
like the entire thing i don't fully comprehend it and john also adds one thing he says the reason why the
7:53
world does not know us is that he did not know jesus in a sense that if the world is oblivious to the identity
8:00
of jesus then obviously they're going to be oblivious to our identity we don't matter because jesus didn't
8:07
matter to them okay in john 1 we read that he came to his own but they did not receive him they received him not okay
8:15
so if the world does not care about jesus then they certainly will not care about us his followers because we bear his image
8:22
okay people who love god will automatically love us and because we are his children and
8:29
people who do not love god would automatically do not will not love us as well okay so
8:35
if you don't care about god then you won't care about his children that's just what john is saying here the reason why the world does not know us
8:42
is because they did not know him uh like for example uh if steph curry goes somewhere and and
8:48
and everybody knows this is steph curry and his children because he's on social media so people know so they acknowledging
8:54
okay but i go somewhere nobody knows who i am yes i'm a child of god i'm the child of the creator but nobody
9:01
knows us because they don't know god because if you see a child of god and
9:07
you recognize the child of god that means you are recognizing whose father is okay so the reason why the world does not know us and does not care about
9:14
children of god is because they don't know god those who truly know god
9:19
will also acknowledge his children because we bear his image we reflect the glory of god and when
9:25
they see us they see god but the world hates that so therefore
9:31
they don't acknowledge god in us because they don't know god and they don't know who he is this is
9:37
why and john is saying that here so now let's go to verse 2. in verse 2 and john says beloved we are
9:45
god's children now and what we will be has not yet appeared but we know that when he appears we
9:52
shall be like him because we shall see him as he is and what does that mean so john is saying that our identity as
9:59
god's children is not a future thing like we are god's children right now
10:04
as it is a child of god is a child of god now and the only way to be called the
10:09
child of god is to be indwelled with the spirit of god in accordance with romans 8 verse 14 to
10:16
17 which we will read listen to what the scripture says here for all who are
10:21
led by the spirit of god are sons of god i'll say that again
10:26
for all who are led by the spirit of god are sons of god for you did not receive
10:32
the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear but you have
10:37
received the spirit of adoption of sons by whom we cry abba father
10:46
the spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of god
10:51
and if children then heirs as of god and fellow as with christ which
10:57
we talked about that in verse one that he seated us you know in the heavenly places with every spiritual blessing in christ
11:03
provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with jesus
11:08
so basically a child of god is a child of god now okay and and then here's what john adds
11:15
he says but we know that when he appears we shall be like him because we shall see him as he is so
11:20
right now we are still living in this corrupted body okay we still have that sinful nature has been crucified
11:26
but there's still residues of it okay and god has given us his spirit
11:32
as a deposit to guarantee what is to come when jesus returns okay so someday we
11:38
will be given an impressionable body okay that will no longer be bothered by sin and i can't
11:44
wait for that so our glorified body according to john will resemble that of christ that's
11:49
given in first corinthians 15 we will go to that in a minute okay first corinthians 15 verse 42 to 54. but the scripture says
11:57
when jesus appears we will be like him because who able to see him as he truly is
12:04
the bible says that no one can see god and live okay because humans are naturally sinful creatures and god
12:09
cannot live you know with sin but when jesus returns
12:15
he will clothe us with a perfect body that will grant us the ability to see
12:20
him as he truly is in all his glory and this is incredible so now i want us to go to first corinthians 15 verse 42
12:26
to 54 to read what we will be like okay and to kind of give way to what john is
12:32
saying here so let's go to that scripture remember john john said when he when he appeared we shall be like him
12:38
for we shall see him as he truly is so let us let us read and why what paul says in first
12:43
corinthians 15 actually talks about the resurrection you say it in verse 42 i'm going to pick it up from verse 42.
12:49
so it is with the resurrection of the dead what is sown is perishable which is the natural body what is red is
12:56
imperishable okay it is sown in dishonor it is raised in glory it is sown in weakness it is raised in
13:03
power it is shown in a natural body it is raised a spiritual body if there
13:09
is a natural body there is also a spiritual body thus it is written the first man adam became a living being
13:16
the last adam became a life life-giving spirit but it is not the spiritual that
13:22
is first but the natural which we have now and then the spiritual the first man was from the earth
13:28
a man of dust the second man is from heaven this is jesus as was the man of dust
13:35
so also are those who are of dust which is us now we bear the image of adam in that broken
13:41
body the corrupted body and the scripture says us is the man of heaven
13:46
so also of heaven just as we have borne the image of the man of dust
13:52
we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven so we're gonna be just like jesus okay
13:58
and this is what paul says in verse 50. i tell you this brothers flesh and blood
14:03
cannot inherit the kingdom of god nor does the perishable inherit the impressionable
14:09
behold i tell you a mystery we shall not all sleep but we shall be
14:15
changed in a moment in the twinkling of an eye at the last trumpet for the trumpet
14:23
shall sound and the dead will be raised imperishable and we shall be changed
14:28
for this perishable body must put on the imperishable and this mortal body must put on
14:34
immortality when the perishable puts on the imperishable and the mortal
14:40
put on immortality then shall come to pass this saying that is written death is swallowed up in victory for
14:47
death what is your victory or death what is your sting okay i mean this is what god is going to
14:54
do for us when jesus comes we are going to be changed in a twinkling of an eye we're going to be
14:59
clothed with a body that no longer will be subject to sin and i can't wait for that day
15:06
okay let's go back to our presentation so now we're going to go to verse 3. so let's see what john says in verse 3
15:14
and everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure okay so john is basically saying that
15:22
everyone who has this hope of seeing jesus in all his glory purifies himself as
15:27
christ himself is pure i mean the desire to see the son of god in all its glory leads us to want nothing to do with the
15:34
fruitless deeds of the flesh it motivates us to yearn and thirst and
15:39
hunger after righteousness and scripture says that blessed are those who thirst and hunger after righteousness for they shall be
15:46
filled the holy spirit is the one who births and creates a desire in us to
15:51
yearn after the things of god to desire holy living that's from the holy spirit
15:57
i don't know about you but there are days that are long to be clothed with the ability to no longer
16:03
sin at all like i can't wait sometimes i'm so tired when i get up in the morning i'm just like lord
16:10
i just want to be close with my glorified body because i'm so tired of like resisting seeing it and fighting this
16:16
this trouble that paul talks about in romans 7 verse 14 to 25 so i'll look forward to
16:21
be like jesus to live in a body that cannot sing a body that only desires
16:27
all that god wants for me like i i can't wait to get up in the morning and know that today everything that i'm gonna do
16:34
is to glorify god to love god with all my heart all my spirit all my mind and all my being like every answer me
16:42
i can't wait to have a body like that okay and then paul talks about that in like uh romans
16:48
eight verse 18 to 24 he talks about the future glory because right now god has crucified like
16:54
the old nature but there are still residues of it and the children of god look forward to the day that will be
17:00
fully delivered from the pangs of this body of death which we live in now and paul talks about it so let's see
17:07
what paul says in romans 8 verse 18 to 24 he says for i consider that the few the
17:14
sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed
17:19
to us okay for the creation wait with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of
17:25
god for the creation was subjected to futility not willingly but because of him who subjected it in
17:33
hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory
17:40
of the children of god for we know that the whole creation has been groaning
17:46
together in the pains of childbirth until now and not only the creation but we
17:51
are we ourselves who have the first fruits of the spirit we grow inwardly
17:57
as we wait eagerly for for adoptions our sons the redemption of our bodies
18:04
i mean for in this hope we were saved now i hope that his sin is not is not hope for hope for what he sees but if we hope
18:12
for what we do not see we wait for it with patience so this is what john is also saying here and everyone who does hopes in him
18:19
purifies himself as he is pure because we are longing for that for to be clothed with
18:24
that body we are longing to be finally freed from the pangs of sin and this
18:32
dead body we just can't wait to be clothed with righteousness and to
18:38
be just like our lord jesus so because of it we long for it and we thirst and therefore
18:43
it makes us desire to be holy so we begin to work out our salvation
18:49
with trembling and fear because we are working toward being holy and this is what john is saying here
18:55
now let's go to verse 4 verse 4 he says everyone who makes a practice of
19:01
sinning also practices lawlessness sin is lawlessness so what is john saying
19:08
here see he has just been talking about being a child of god he breaks that pattern and he goes back
19:14
to practicing sing and practicing lawlessness lawlessness
19:20
so he's reiterating his point because he's been talking about in the previous chapter and and he is so interesting that he he
19:27
brings that up right after mentioning yearning purity and there's a reason for it john is
19:33
basically saying that a true child of god will not make a practice of sinning okay
19:39
we he's just been talking about a child of god so now he wants to make that distinction he's saying listen a true child of god
19:46
will not make a practice of sinning and everyone will make a practice of sinning also practices
19:51
lawlessness because we know that sin is lawlessness so everyone habitually sins is by nature a law
19:58
breaker because the natural man the man without the spirit of god loves to break the law
20:03
of god because he does not know how to live by the commandments of god then according to romans 8 7 8 the
20:11
scripture says the natural man cannot submit to the law of god let's read it scripture says for those who live
20:17
according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh okay the natural men
20:23
the flesh the the person without the spirit of god but those who live according to the
20:28
spirit set their minds on the things of the spirit for to set the mind on the flesh is
20:33
death but to set the minds on the spirit is life and peace because god the holy spirit gives us that
20:41
that desire to please god okay so that's what we do is we love to do the things of god
20:46
so as you can see um the fleshly body and the fleshly nature cannot
20:52
please god so and then john is saying everyone who makes a practice of sinning
20:59
also practices lawlessness so everyone who habitually habitually sins by nature is a law
21:05
breaker so there's a reason why john is saying that we're gonna see that in verses to come so let's keep going
21:12
so if you look at verse five he says you know that he appeared in order to
21:18
take away sins and in him there is no sin so what is john saying here
21:24
jesus didn't just appear and didn't just come into this world for the sake of just
21:29
coming okay and john gives us one of the reasons why jesus came in the flesh as a human
21:35
it is to break the power of sin and take away his dominion on his elected ones so he
21:42
appeared to take away sins okay so jesus cannot be defeated by sin because by nature he is
21:49
sinless so though tempted he did not sin because in him there is no sin
21:54
so jesus cannot sin because he's god incarnate so us is a different story
22:02
see we have that bias towards sin because of adam and eve so we have that sinful nature we are born with the
22:09
propensity to sin we come out of our mother's womb shaking our face that god because
22:14
we want to resist them because this is the nature of adam the adamic nature it is the
22:19
sinful nature and jesus was now born with a sinful nature because he is god incarnate which
22:25
we just talked about so he appeared for a purpose and the purpose for one of the purpose for which
22:30
he appeared is to take away sins to take away the ability for us to sin to also take away our sins
22:37
to die for our sins but to also die so that we can have life okay to take away the ability to sin to
22:43
take away that the dominion of sin in our life and because of that he appeared to
22:49
destroy the power of sin on his chosen ones okay if you go to hebrews 4 verse 14 to
22:54
16 the scripture says since then we have a great high priest who has passed
23:00
through the heavens jesus the son of god let us hold fast our confession for we
23:06
do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses but one who in every respect has been
23:14
tempted as we are yet without sin let us then
23:21
with confidence draw near to the throne of grace that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need see
23:27
he was tempted yet without sin because he does not sin because he cannot sin because he is
23:34
without sin and he appeared to take away their ability to sin to take away not only
23:40
our sins because he's the atoning sacrifice for our sins but he also came so that he can destroy the power of sin
23:47
in our lives this is why he appeared so in verse 6 john is saying no one who
23:54
abides in him keep on sinning no one who keeps on seeing him has either seen him or known him he just
24:00
said in verse 5 that jesus appeared to take away sins so therefore he makes this uh this next
24:06
statement no one will abide in him keeps on sinning so john is saying consequently because
24:13
jesus appeared to take away sin and in him there is no sin consequently those who abide in jesus
24:21
those who live in jesus those who call jesus their lord and savior cannot keep on sinning because these
24:28
seeds remains in them and consequently they cannot make a practice of sinning
24:33
because jesus appeared in order to destroy and take away our ability to sin
24:39
okay john didn't say they never sin he never said that but he said they cannot make it
24:44
make a practice of sinning because we see in romans 7 14 to 25 now paul talks about even though god has
24:51
crucified the sinful nature the residue still remains and we are working toward
24:57
that goal of being one day redeemed completely so we are no longer dominated by sin but
25:03
we are being renewed every day in the image of jesus which means we will sin less if you look at romans
25:11
12 verse 1 to 2 scripture says i appeal to you therefore brothers by the mercies of god to present your
25:18
bodies as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable to god
25:23
which is your spiritual worship do not do not conform to this world but be transformed by the
25:29
renewal of your mind that by testing you may discern what is the will of god what is good and acceptable and perfect
25:36
you see no one who lives in jesus will keep some will keep on sinning will not make a habit of sinning will
25:42
not practice sin practice is something that you do every day so if you get up every day and
25:48
all you want to do is do the fruitless deeds of the sinful nature then you are not a child
25:53
of god and john is saying that here no one was really if you had an encounter with jesus you will be changed
25:59
okay you're not going to be the same again so basically no one who has seen him or know jesus
26:06
no one who has been intimate with jesus would keep on sinning basically it's impossible to have an
26:12
encounter with jesus through jesus and remain unchanged it's an impossibility
26:17
and this is what john is saying here if you've truly been in the presence of jesus you'll come out
26:23
of it changed okay you come out of your change no one who claims to know jesus no one who
26:30
claims to be intimate with jesus the intimacy being one with jesus that
26:35
would result into desiring to be more like your savior and your lord
26:41
and john is saying no who abides in him if you claim that you abide in jesus that jesus is the root and you are the branches
26:48
because he says i am divine you are the branches okay apart from me you can do nothing
26:54
jesus say that so basically if you abide in him we will bear fruit
26:59
because the branches begin to bear fruit because they abide in the road they abide in the lord so therefore as
27:06
the branches that are abide in the vine we will begin to bear fruit so if you claim that we are bite in the
27:12
vine and we are not burning any fruit we are lying because that means we don't
27:18
really abide in the vine and this is what john is saying here no one was really truly seeing him will
27:23
continue to sin okay and this is what john is saying in this chapter here so let's not fool ourselves
27:29
and he's going to talk about that in verses to come listen to what he says verse 7 to 10 little children
27:38
let no one deceive you whoever practices righteousness is
27:44
righteous as he is righteous whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the
27:50
devil for the devil has been sinning from the beginning the reason the son of god appeared was
27:56
to destroy the works of the devil you see first he said the reason why the son of god appeared was to take away our sins
28:03
to atone for our sins to take our ability to sin and the reason why the son of god appeared he's
28:08
saying here is to destroy the works of the devil okay his works
28:14
okay no one who no one born of god makes a practice of sinning for god's seed abides in him and he
28:21
cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of god by this it is evident who are the
28:27
children of god and who are the children of the devil whoever does not practice righteousness
28:32
is not of god nor is the one who does not love his brother see
28:37
jesus makes references to this in john 8 verse 34 and john 8 verse 39 to 47 and we're going to look
28:44
at it and then come back to this presentation in a minute so let's go to listen to what jesus says in john 8
28:50
verse 34 jesus answered them truly truly
28:55
i say to you everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin you see if you
29:02
practice sin you are a slave to sin if you habitually sin
29:07
you are a slave to sin which is like consistent with what john is
29:13
saying in in the epistle of john whoever practices sin is of the devil
29:19
whoever practices righteousness is of god okay now let's listen to what john the
29:25
scripture says in verse 39 to 47 they answered him abraham is our father jesus said to them
29:31
if you were abraham's children you would be doing the works of abraham but now you seek to kill me a man was
29:37
told you the truth that i heard from god this is not what abraham did you are doing the works of your your
29:43
father did they say to him we were not born of sexual immorality we have one father even god and jesus
29:50
said to them if god were your father you will love me for i came from god and i'm here i came not of my own
29:58
accord but he sent me why do you not understand what i say it is because you cannot bear to hear my word you are of your
30:07
father the devil and you your will is to do your father's desires
30:12
he was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth
30:17
because there is no truth in him when he lies he speaks out of his own
30:23
character for he is a liar and the father of lies because but because i tell you this
30:30
truth you do not believe me which one of you convicts me of sin if i tell you the truth why do you not
30:36
believe me whoever is of god hears the words of god
30:41
the reason why you do not hear me is that you are not of god let me listen to what jesus is saying i
30:48
can't do there's no way for me to add words to this you will read the scripture and it's so clear
30:54
it's not be good you can understanding clearly what jesus is saying here okay you are of your father the devil
31:01
and your will is to do your father's desires he was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth because
31:08
there is no truth in him when he lies he speaks out of his own character for
31:13
he is a liar and the father of lies now let's go back to our presentation and we're going to
31:19
continue here okay listen to what um the scripture says
31:26
so basically what john is saying here is this he's teaching us again how to identify
31:32
the children of god and the children of the devil which is what um jesus said in john 8
31:38
okay a child of god by nature loves to practice righteousness while the children of the
31:45
devil love to practice unrighteousness that's just so simple yet it's it's sometimes we make it too
31:51
complicated according to john making a distinction shouldn't be a hard uh thing all we have to do is look at
31:58
the fruits of people's lives to see whether they are from god or not
32:04
and he ends these verses by reiterating the fact that the one who does not love another brother in christ is a child of the
32:10
devil and we are going to go into detail about this phrase in our next session because he has everything to do with
32:17
righteousness because they hated jesus because he was righteous so we're going to go into detail about
32:22
that so i'm just going to quickly mention it but we're going to go into detail about it in our next session
32:27
but as of today as of now uh what can you retain so the question
32:33
is are you a child of god okay and i will exhort you
32:38
to examine yourself to see if you are in the faith and you can follow on john's criteria
32:44
and to test yourself because this is how you're gonna know if you are truly a child of god or not
32:50
because i don't wanna i don't wanna leave you [Music] uh without really calling you to examine
32:57
yourself okay john talks about the love of god in the beginning because if you are a child of god then
33:04
god i support his love on you and if you are a child of god you begin to bear his image and that's gonna
33:10
there's gonna be an implication because if god loves you what's gonna happen is his seed is gonna be in you
33:16
and he's going to lead you in ways of righteousness your life will begin to resemble that of jesus you're gonna
33:22
desire to be more like your lord and if that doesn't happen in your life
33:27
maybe you are not a child of god maybe you are being deceived because you can't hang on to your sin keep on living
33:34
in sin and then say you love god it's just an impossibility because
33:39
the holy spirit in you thirst and hunger after righteousness and he's going to
33:44
create that desire in you to thirst and hunger after righteousness you may still struggle with sin
33:51
but you're gonna you're going to sin less you're going to desire what is right
33:57
more you're going to practice righteousness you're going to practice what is right you're going to want to be
34:02
like your lord so you can't be a new creature and do the things that you used to do before
34:08
and and then claim that you are a child of god that is just not true and john is saying that here it is
34:13
evident who the children of god are and who the children of the devil are by the practice of
34:19
righteousness the practice of righteousness authenticates you the fruit of your life what are the fruits of your life are you
34:25
exuding the fruit of the spirit love joy peace self-control discipline
34:31
do you love god do you love the things of god you love the word of god you spend time in the presence of god because if you do is going to
34:38
impact the way you live it's going to change your thinking it's going to change your desire you're going to desire to be like your
34:44
savior because you're going to look forward today he comes back and as a result your life will begin to look more like
34:51
the life of jesus because that seed remains it remains in you but if you continue to hold on to
34:57
your sin if you continue to live in sin and you do this day after day after days after days
35:03
maybe you're not a child of god and it's time for us to really be authentic and to check ourselves and to examine
35:09
ourselves so next week we're going to talk about why not loving your brother is a sign that
35:17
you do not know god not loving your brother in christ and he has everything to do with righteousness and i want to make sure i
35:23
make that point okay so with that said i will encourage you to go back and read these scriptures again and let the
35:30
holy spirit be your teacher alright thanks again for watching and i'll see you next week
