We kicked off the second book of John several days ago, and gave our attention to verses 1-3, the salutation. Before John even begins his letter, he preaches the gospel in his greetings to the addressee. We’re going to continue today and turn our attention to verses 4 through 11. John exhorts his readers to continue in the Truth, to abide in the love of God and to resist the heretics and their deceptive ways.

have great careers or that they are like

or have great wealth or a good name

a great reputation or they've

accumulated a lot of knowledge and

wisdom that's not what john is

john's delight he was so thrilled that

some of her children

were actually walking according to the

truth

we need to know what truth the truth is

taught by the apostles concerning jesus

and what he has commanded them by god

but they were false teachers in a church

they are consistent and that is bringing

kids and these children are walking in

that your children or people that you

invested in are walking in the truth

grew up

it was my dad's uh pleasure that i

have like maybe a great career i became

something he that's what my

my parents that's what i wanted they

wanted me to go to school

get a good degree and then get a job and

have a great family and then

this is what most most parents want they

want their children to succeed in life

and the idea of success

is pretty much narrow in the sense that

they just want you to have a great

career

this is not what john is rejoicing in

jones finds his pleasure in the fact

that

that lady's children are walking in the

truth the true version

what jesus taught them about himself

so he sees that these children actually

obeying the words of god

through jesus they are obeying this

because the holy spirit lives in them

and that gives

john a great uh pleasure he's like i'm

delighted that your children are walking

in the truth is that you

because at the end of the day when we

accusations with us all we have is our

truth of the gospel that's what i want

this to the lady he says for many

deceivers

have gone out into the world those who

the coming of jesus christ in the flesh

such a one is the deceiver and the

so they deny that jesus has come in the

human nature of our savior

facing with the gnostic teachers

they claimed that jesus was never truly

so and this was typical of the gnostic

they couldn't conceive how god became

so they denied that jesus was truly god

so one of them they are leading teachers

he actually said that jesus gained the

the day he was being baptized and then

he went to the cross so basically he

said that the spirit of god

fisherman to become a preacher

that people could lose their salvation

that's not what john is saying

but what john is saying is that those

salvation because salvation comes from

they show that they were not truly

people's houses to come and teach

because some people recognize him as a

man and tested by god

and elisha the prophet he also did it

especially shown hospitality to the

messengers of god

was encouraged so john knew that the

gnostic teachers were also going from

town to towns

to spread their heritage so he was

strongly warning the church folks to not

show them any hospitality

because by doing so they could hurt

themselves especially if they were

new converts not grounded in the truth

and by showing them hospitality

to to these false teachers they were

pretty much sharing in their wicked

works

and i believe the same principle applied

to us today

under no circumstances shall we hide

under the ban of love

and kindness and receive any heretic so

we we we have to turn away from these
22:14
these people especially if they are

pretty adamant about preaching and

continuing

in their heresies and that goes for like

mormons

jehovah witnesses and any teaching that

is not consistent with truth

found in sacred scripture because a lot

of these false teachers

and a lot of church folks they say well

we have to be nice to them

i don't need to be nice to someone that

is preaching a heresy and is assistant

or not listening to the truth

you don't need to give me platform you

don't need to let them come and then

pollute your ears i don't have time for

that

and john is saying don't even wait waste

listening to these folks because they

are not even preaching the truth now you

can engage

with them and then and then show them

the truth and i say listen this is what

the scripture teaches

but don't pretty much give them a

the jesus that they are proclaiming is

people don't give them a platform don't

give them an opportunity to share their

you can disagree with them you can point

them to the truth and if these people

are adamant about
