We’re going to continue our odyssey of the book of 1 John today. We’ll be looking at 1 John 2:7-14. We’ve talked about the fact that John was warning his readers about false teachers that had infiltrated the church early on in chapter 1. We also talked about John’s biblical criteria for establishing whether a person was walking in the light or not. We defined what that meant. In our last study we talked about what it meant to have a love for God that has come to perfection. And we concluded that unless God extends first His love to us by changing the dispositions of our heart, it is impossible for us to love Him. In other words we love Him because He first loved us. And loving God and doing His will is a clear sign that God loves us, our obedience to God is a by-product of His love toward us. John also made a bold statement in v6 of 1 John 2 “ whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked”. And He is going to be elaborating on that in the next verses. We’re going to be exploring v7-14 today, mainly to know what it means to walk as Jesus did.
