The Bible says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and it means it literally. I’ve heard a lot of people who try to replace the word fear with love to make the verse more suitable to their ears. Paul the apostle tells us in Philippians 2:12 that we are to work out our own salvation with trembling and fear because God himself is the one who works in us both to will and act according to His good purpose. But many so called believers today have lost what it means to have reverence for God. We have been so intoxicated with looking cool to our peers and being accepted that we’ve turned the Holy into the profane. I have seen people wear gears that say things such as God is dope, God is a G, Jesus is my homeboy, and all this is done just so that we can fit in by using terminologies the world uses to describe things that are supposedly cool. People will say to me, what’s wrong with that Tayib, they are just expressing themselves in their own slang? I say everything is wrong with it. It looks harmless on the surface but when you begin to attach to the name of God simple qualifiers that you use on your own friends, you begin to view God in the same manner, and you lose the gravity of the Holiness of God. You progressively lose the fear of the Lord. You’ve created an idol like the Aladdin genie that you can control because he is your homeboy. I want you to pause for a second and imagine that you’re in front of the apostles Paul, John, Peter, James and I want you to tell them that Jesus is your homeboy. You wouldn’t even dare.
What is the main thing God says about Himself , it’s this - God is Holy Holy Holy. Angels who are more pure creatures than we are won’t even dare to be so irreverent with attaching simple qualifiers to His name. Let me show you the example of three people and what they thought about God, see video

hello this is T at tbs.com and today we
0:03
are going to talk about something that
0:05
really hits home for most of us is uh
0:08
truly not understanding uh the doctrine
0:11
of God and I think um a lot of us don't
0:14
truly understand who God is and because
0:17
we don't understand who God is we do
0:20
things and and and actually portray him
0:22
in a way that is so profane and you can
0:25
see on my my screen there I said God is
0:27
Not dope and I will get into why I'm
0:30
saying that in a minute now a lot of
0:32
people if you watch this you might think
0:34
T you're trying to be a Pharisee you're
0:36
legalistic you you think uh you are Thou
0:40
Art more holy whatever things you think
0:42
but I want you to really pay attention
0:44
to and listen to what the spirit of God
0:45
might be saying this evening that's what
0:47
I want you to pay attention to so
0:49
because we truly don't understand the
0:50
Holiness of god so let's get into uh the
0:54
topic so I'm going to give you my
0:56
introduction again I like to write my
0:57
things on uh on my screen so you can
1:00
follow with me because you know I like
1:03
to organize my thoughts and sometimes I
1:05
don't quite remember the things that I'm
1:07
thinking so it's better for me to just
1:08
put it on the screen for you guys so the
1:11
Bible says that the fear of the Lord is
1:14
the beginning of wisdom and it means
1:16
that literally so I've heard a lot of
1:18
people who try to replace the word fear
1:22
with love to make the verse more
1:23
suitable to their ears but we are called
1:26
by Paul the Apostle in Philippians 2:12
1:29
that we are to work out our own
1:31
salvation with trembling and fear
1:34
because God himself is the one who works
1:36
in us both to Will and act according to
1:39
his purpose but many so-called Believers
1:42
today have lost what it means to have
1:44
reverence for God we've been so
1:47
intoxicated we've looking cool to our
1:48
peers and being accepted that we've
1:51
turned the holy into the
1:53
profane I've seen a lot of people wear
1:55
gears that say things such as God is
1:58
dope God is a g Jesus is my homeboy God
2:01
is my homie and all this is done just to
2:04
so just so that we can fit in by using U
2:07
terminologies the world uses to describe
2:10
things that are supposedly cool so I'm
2:12
going to pause for a second I want to
2:13
show you some pictures here and I want
2:15
you to really pay attention like look at
2:17
this okay Jesus is my homie and this is
2:20
on a shirt all right I'm going to show
2:22
you something
2:23
else I want you to really pause and look
2:26
at this here I don't know who this guy
2:29
is but he says Jesus is my
2:31
homeboy right and then let's look at
2:33
another
2:35
one now look look at this God is dope
2:39
all ripped shirt we've all ripped pants
2:41
and probably walking in church looking
2:43
like this now again I said earlier a lot
2:46
of people are going to say t you're
2:48
trying to be a Pharisee but I want you
2:49
to really pay attention Okay because
2:52
when we go into the holy we need to also
2:54
have respect when we enter a
2:56
congregation okay now keep keep keep
2:59
looking at this now look at this guy
3:01
baby Jesus is my homeboy and look what
3:03
they did here baby Jesus is my homeboy
3:06
all right let's keep going and then God
3:10
is my homie
3:12
like I mean I can't even say these words
3:15
like it's it's it's incredible how the
3:17
extents to which we don't understand the
3:19
Holiness of God and the reverence we
3:21
don't have reverence so let me go back
3:23
to my um presentation here and and I'm
3:26
going to continue so people often will
3:28
say to me T like what what's wrong with
3:30
that and they're saying they're just
3:32
expressing themselves in their own slang
3:34
let the young people be or let the
3:36
people be you're trying to press them
3:38
down you can't do that this is you're
3:39
like you're like a Pharisee don't do
3:41
that t now my my response is everything
3:44
is wrong with it because it looks
3:46
harmless on the surface but when you
3:48
begin to attach to the name of God
3:51
simple qualifiers that you use on your
3:53
own friends you begin to view God in the
3:56
same manner and you lose the gravity of
3:59
the Holiness of God you progressively
4:02
lose the fear of the Lord and you've
4:04
created an idol like the Aladdin Genie
4:07
that you can control because he is your
4:09
home boy I want you to pause for a
4:11
second and imagine that you're in front
4:14
of the Apostles Paul John Peter James
4:17
and I want you to tell them that Jesus
4:21
is your homeboy you wouldn't even there
4:24
you wouldn't even say that maybe you
4:26
would maybe I'm mistaken maybe you would
4:28
say hey Jesus is my homie me you know
4:31
like the thing is this when you begin to
4:34
attach those names to the name of God
4:37
you begin to treat God like your homie
4:41
or your homeboy or your
4:43
buddy God is Holy that reverence you
4:47
lose that reverence progressively when
4:49
you begin to use the name of God in vain
4:52
like that okay you may think it's
4:54
harmless because you're just trying to
4:55
be
4:56
cool but progressively
4:59
the more you talk about this thing the
5:01
more you use those terminologies on God
5:03
you begin to view God like your home boy
5:05
like your little buddy and you lose the
5:08
Holiness of God now what is what is God
5:11
said about himself what did he say this
5:14
is what God Said God is Holy Holy and
5:18
Holy Angels who are more pure creatures
5:21
than we are won't even dare to be so
5:23
reverent with attaching simple
5:26
qualifiers to his name and I'm going to
5:28
show you the example of three people
5:30
and what they thought about God and then
5:32
you're going to make your conclusions
5:33
after that so let's go to the next so in
5:36
Isaiah 6 we read the the following in
5:40
the year that King oziah died I saw the
5:42
Lord sitting upon the throne high and
5:45
lifted up and the train of his robe
5:47
filled the temple above him stood the
5:50
seraphim each had six wings with two he
5:53
covered his face with two he covered his
5:57
feet and with two he flew and one called
6:01
to another and said holy holy holy is
6:05
the Lord of hosts the whole earth is
6:08
full of his glory and the foundations of
6:11
the thresholds Shook at the voice of him
6:14
who called and the house was filled with
6:17
smoke and I said wo is me that's Isaiah
6:21
talking for I am lost for I a man of
6:25
unclean lips and I dwell in the midst of
6:28
a people of unclean lips for my eyes
6:31
have seen the king the Lord of hosts
6:34
then one of the seraphim flew to me
6:36
having in his hand a burning cold that
6:38
he had taken with tongues from The Altar
6:41
and he touched my mouth and said behold
6:43
this has touched your lips your guilt is
6:46
taken away and your sin atoned for did
6:50
you see what's going on here Isaiah goes
6:52
into the temple and he gets this
6:55
glorious vision of the Glorious Christ
6:58
sitting upon his throne the angels are
7:00
covering their face they won't even look
7:03
they're covering their feet because that
7:05
shows their like their nature like you
7:08
have to cover your feet and then they
7:11
say holy holy holy is the Lord of hosts
7:14
Isaiah
7:15
himself trembles he say wo is me for I
7:19
am lost he realizes for the first time
7:21
how sinful he is the smoke in the
7:24
place the whole place try shook you see
7:28
that okay okay let's keep
7:32
going now Isaiah he didn't think that
7:35
God was his homeboy Isaiah fell on his
7:38
face and became terrified and
7:40
defenseless this is what happened when
7:43
we come into contact with the Holiness
7:45
of God fear and trembling now do you
7:49
think Isaiah would have dared to say God
7:51
is my homeboy with such a Cavalier in
7:54
Reverend posture he he would have been
7:56
consumed immediately
7:59
Angels cover their feet cover their
8:02
faces and the only phrase they could say
8:04
is holy holy holy is the Lord of host
8:08
now you think these angels would say my
8:11
homeboy my homeboy my homeboy is the
8:14
Lord of host you think they will say
8:16
that just because they want to be cool
8:18
to to this like the kind of world that
8:20
we live in now they just want to say
8:21
that no God God is the same yesterday
8:23
today and tomorrow God is Holy that's
8:26
the first thing he said in in in the
8:28
beatitude
8:30
what is the first thing that Jesus
8:31
taught us he said Hallowed be thy name
8:35
holy is your name so we have to keep the
8:37
name of God holy but somehow in
8:40
2020 we all think that we are such a
8:42
gift of God that we are smart that we
8:46
are Advanced that we are so precious in
8:49
God's sight and somehow God is dope and
8:52
therefore he thinks it is dope for you
8:54
to call him your home boy you see this
8:56
is why we need to study the doctrine of
8:58
God
9:00
God is immutable and he is the same
9:02
yesterday today and tomorrow God is Holy
9:07
Holy Holy let's keep
9:10
going now in Exodus 3 Moses we're going
9:14
to read what happens now Moses was
9:16
keeping the flock of his father-in-law
9:19
Jethro the priest of Midian and he led
9:21
his flock to the west side of the
9:23
Wilderness and came to Horeb the
9:25
Mountain of God and the angel of the
9:27
Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire
9:30
out of out of the midst of a bush and he
9:32
looked and behold the Bush was burning
9:35
yet it was not consumed and Moses said I
9:38
will turn aside to see this great sight
9:41
why the bush is not burned when the Lord
9:43
saw that he turned aside to see God
9:45
Called to him out of the Bush Moses
9:48
Moses and he said here I am and then he
9:52
said do not come near take your sandals
9:55
off your feet for the place on which you
9:57
are standing is Holy Ground
10:00
and he said I am the god of your father
10:03
the god of Abraham the god of Isaac and
10:05
the god of Jacob and Moses hid his face
10:09
for he was afraid to look at God now
10:12
Moses the great Liberator was afraid to
10:15
look at God I once heard someone say
10:18
that if he was Moses he would have he
10:19
wouldn't be afraid that he would have
10:20
looked at it again that shows you that
10:24
people don't understand the Holiness of
10:25
God okay you see what Moses is Doing In
10:27
God's Presence he's afraid to look he
10:30
won't even dare to look was he knows if
10:32
I look I might be consumed now let's go
10:35
to Luke five this is Peter on one
10:38
occasion while the crowd was pressing in
10:41
on him to hear the word of God he was
10:42
standing by the lake of ganes and he saw
10:45
two boats by the lake where the
10:47
fishermen had gone out of them and were
10:48
washing their Nets getting into one of
10:51
the boats which was Simon's which was
10:54
Peter he asked him to put out a little
10:56
from the land and he sat down and taught
10:58
the people from the boat and when he had
11:00
finished speaking he said to Simon put
11:02
out into the deep and let down your nets
11:04
for a catch and Simon answered Master we
11:08
toiled all night and took nothing but at
11:11
your word I let down the net and when
11:14
they had done this they enclosed a large
11:16
number of fish and their Nets were
11:17
breaking they signal to their Partners
11:20
in the other boat to come and help them
11:22
and they came and filled both the boat
11:24
so they began to sink but when Simon
11:26
Peter saw it he fell down at at Jesus
11:29
knees saying depart from me for I am a
11:32
sinful man oh Lord now when Peter
11:34
realized who he was addressing when he
11:37
came in contact with the Holiness of God
11:39
he couldn't bear to be in his presence
11:41
that's why he said depart from me for I
11:44
am a sinful man oh Lord you see that so
11:49
the question that we have is this what
11:51
did these three Godly men have in common
11:55
you know fear trembling and realization
11:59
of their own worthless condition I'll
12:02
say that again fear trembling and the
12:06
realization of their own worthless
12:08
condition they were so terrified that
12:10
they didn't want to be in the presence
12:12
of God because of his Holiness you see
12:15
Holiness exposes our sinful nature and
12:18
we want to flee from it because it as
12:20
good lovely pure and desirable as the
12:23
Holiness of God is we hate it and dread
12:26
it because it undur us it Expos es you
12:30
but now in our day we are doing the
12:33
opposite We Don't Fear The Holiness of
12:35
the name of God we profane his name and
12:38
we do it with a Cavalier
12:40
attitude and what did Jesus say when the
12:42
disciple asked him about how to pray and
12:45
how to approach God properly in Matthew
12:47
6:9 we read Our Father in heaven
12:50
Hallowed be your
12:52
name now if you don't understand that
12:54
the name of God is Holy and have
12:57
reverence for his name you will end up
12:58
with a low view of God and that's what
13:00
happened to a lot of
13:02
people and the thing is this why do we
13:05
behave that way now we beh behave that
13:08
way because we don't truly know God we
13:10
haven't been truly transformed by his
13:12
powerful word we have a hybrid uh
13:15
worldview that find its root in mixing
13:17
humanism with theism okay now humanism
13:20
is basically saying that you are your
13:22
own God basically and theism is
13:24
acknowled acknowledging that it is a god
13:27
basically what we do is this we say say
13:29
that there is a God but we act as if we
13:31
are still our own Gods and don't nobody
13:33
tell me what to do okay we don't submit
13:35
to the lordship of Christ so we become
13:38
almost like Dem my gods which means we
13:41
just run our own little world and we
13:43
don't need God and we only need him when
13:44
we we really we really call upon him
13:47
when we really have some kind of a need
13:49
and he's almost like a vending machine
13:50
that we go
13:51
to and the Bible says that we have a
13:54
form of godliness but deny its power and
13:58
we can look at Paul
13:59
uh admonition to second to Timothy in 2
14:01
Timothy 31-9 let's go to that real
14:04
quick let's go to that second
14:10
Timothy
14:12
31-9 okay let's read
14:21
that now the word of God says but
14:25
understand this that in the last days
14:26
there will come times of difficulty for
14:29
people who be lovers of self lovers of
14:32
money proud arrogant abusive disobedient
14:36
to their parent ungrateful Unholy
14:39
heartless unappeasable slanderous
14:42
without self-control brutal not loving
14:45
good treacherous Reckless swollen with
14:48
conceit lovers of pleasure rather than
14:50
lovers of God having the appearance of
14:52
godliness but denying its power avoid
14:55
such people for among them are those who
14:57
creep into household and capture weak
15:00
women burdened with sins and led astray
15:02
by various passions always learning and
15:04
never able to arrive at a knowledge of
15:06
the truth just as Janice and jemus
15:09
opposed Moses so these men also opposed
15:11
the truth men corrupted in mind and
15:14
disqualified regarding the faith but
15:16
they would not get very far for their
15:18
fly will be pling to all as was that of
15:21
those two men now do you hear the strong
15:23
word that Paul is using here when he's
15:27
talking about people that have no
15:28
reverence
15:29
and we've been called to examine
15:31
ourselves to see if we are truly saved
15:34
but we seldom do so because we surround
15:36
ourselves with other people who behave
15:39
just like us so we become very
15:41
comfortable in our sinful behaviors and
15:43
we go from bad to worse and we lose our
15:46
sensitivity to the destructive power of
15:49
sin and we all we call what is good bad
15:52
and what is bad good in Isaiah 520 let's
15:55
read Isaiah
15:57
5:20 this is why happened to
16:03
us wo to those who call evil good and
16:06
good evil we put Darkness for light and
16:09
light for Darkness we put bitter for
16:11
sweet and sweeter and sweet for bitter
16:13
this is what happened to us when we
16:16
lose the sense of awe and reverence for
16:19
God in 1 John 1 verse
16:22
5-6 scripture says this is the message
16:25
we've heard from me and proclaimed to
16:26
you that God is light and in him is no
16:29
Darkness at all if we say we have
16:31
fellowship with him while we walk in
16:33
darkness we lie and do not practice the
16:35
truth now the same folks that do this
16:38
kind of stuff they will appeal to the
16:39
love of God in order to remain unchanged
16:42
they say to you well God loves me the
16:44
way they say the way I am and they claim
16:46
that God's love is unconditional and the
16:48
way they Define unconditional is this
16:50
God loves me just as I am in other words
16:53
I don't have to change my ways okay and
16:56
they listen to false false teachers like
16:57
Joel Austin you know who preached the a
17:00
message of false hope telling them
17:02
things that will tingle their ears
17:03
according to 2 Timothy 4 :se 3- 4 the
17:06
scripture says for the time is coming
17:08
when people will not endure sound
17:10
teaching but having itching ears they
17:12
will accumulate for themselves teachers
17:14
to suit their own passions and will turn
17:16
away from listening to the truth and
17:18
wonderand off into myths that's what
17:20
happens now my whole point is this I'm
17:24
not here to put you at a stake because
17:27
you're wearing a shirt or you gear that
17:29
say God is your homeboy God is your
17:31
homie or God is a g or God is dope or
17:35
whatever but what I want you to
17:37
understand this thing is this God is
17:39
Holy and you have to remember that so
17:41
God is not your homeboy to the point
17:43
where you treat him as your home boy
17:45
that's not what it is God is Holy the
17:48
Israelite wouldn't even say the name of
17:49
God that's how much respect and
17:52
reverence they have for his name but we
17:54
don't have that today so we we do
17:56
whatever we want and we use God's name
17:59
attached to his simple qualifiers you
18:01
have to go back to understanding the
18:03
doctrine of God who is God if you truly
18:06
understand who God is there are certain
18:08
things you won't do now you saw me
18:09
pointing out a lady with a ripped shirt
18:11
and ripped jeans and and then often time
18:14
people show up to church like that and
18:15
people say to you well what's wrong with
18:17
that let them be they're here to listen
18:19
to the word of God but yes there comes
18:21
there comes a point where you have to
18:23
grow as a Believer okay like if you were
18:26
to go to a wedding you wouldn't be
18:28
dressed like that why because it's not
18:30
appropriate for a wedding right if you
18:32
were to go to the White House you would
18:33
be dressed like that if you were to go
18:35
to look for a job you wouldn't be
18:37
dressed like that why com into the
18:38
presence of
18:40
God why would you dress like
18:45
that now how much respect do you show to
18:53
God I'll finish with those words have a
18:57
wonderful day
