The charge to speak, see link below for access to the presentation
https://tayibs.com/2020/10/19/a-closer-look-at-exodus-610-13-the-charge-to-speak/
God sent Moses to pharaoh, king of Egypt with the following charge - tell him to free the people of Israel, I’m paraphrasing. The charge is recorded for us in Exodus 6:10-13
10 So the Lord said to Moses, 11 “Go in, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the people of Israel go out of his land.” 12 But Moses said to the Lord, “Behold, the people of Israel have not listened to me. How then shall Pharaoh listen to me, for I am of uncircumcised lips?” 13 But the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron and gave them a charge about the people of Israel and about Pharaoh king of Egypt: to bring the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt.
God already knew that pharaoh was going to resist Him, as a matter of fact the Lord Himself said that He was going to harden pharaoh’s heart in order that He might show the king of Egypt and the Egyptians that HE is Lord.
I want us to focus on the first sign Moses did in front of Pharaoh today and I’m hoping that we’ll be able to look at the miracle itself and its significance. A lot of time we are so thrilled and enamored by the supernatural power of God in the events recorded for us that we forget the other lessons that are being taught, see video .

hello this is t.com I hope you had a
0:03
great weekend and I'm sure you're
0:05
looking forward to uh Thanksgiving I
0:08
don't know that how that's going to play
0:09
out this year but I'm hoping that all of
0:11
you guys are going to take some
0:12
precaution and make sure uh to to to to
0:15
be save first okay so we want to do that
0:18
now today we are going to be looking at
0:20
Exodus uh 7 verse
0:23
8-13 and the title of the study is a
0:26
closer look at Moses first sign before
0:29
pharoh so I'm going to jump into the
0:32
introduction and then we are going to
0:33
talk about what is uh at hand today now
0:38
if you recall uh God sent Moses to
0:40
pharaoh and king of Egypt and he said uh
0:44
the following tell him to free the
0:45
people of Israel now I'm I'm just
0:48
paraphrasing what God Said and the
0:49
charge is recorded for us in Exodus 6:
0:53
10-13 and I'm going to read that so the
0:56
Lord said to Moses go in tell Pharaoh
0:59
king of Egypt to let the people of
1:01
Israel go out of his land but Moses said
1:05
to the Lord behold the people of Israel
1:07
have not listened to me how then shall
1:10
Pharaoh listen to me for I am of
1:13
uncircumcised lips but the Lord spoke to
1:16
Moses and Aaron and gave them a charge
1:19
about the people of Israel and and about
1:21
Pharaoh king of Egypt to bring the
1:24
people of Israel out of the land of
1:27
Egypt that was a charge that God gave to
1:30
Aaron and Moses and I actually did a
1:32
study on that so I'll give you the link
1:34
in the description if you want to read
1:36
that now basically uh God already knew
1:40
that Pharaoh was going to resist him and
1:43
as a matter of fact the Lord himself
1:45
said he was going to harden Pharaoh's
1:48
heart in order that he might show the
1:50
king of Egypt and the Egyptians that he
1:52
is Lord so I want us today to focus on
1:56
the first sign Moses did in front of
1:58
pharaoh and I'm hoping that we'll be
2:01
able to look at the miracle itself and
2:03
its significance now a lot of time we
2:06
are so thrilled and enamored by the
2:08
supernatural power of God in the events
2:10
recorded for us in sacred scripture and
2:13
then we forget the other lessons uh that
2:16
are being taught so today I want us to
2:17
just look at the miracle and just really
2:19
focus on it and then see what God is
2:20
teaching us through it so let's do that
2:24
now the first thing we need to
2:25
understand is this why the serpent sign
2:28
why did he use that
2:31
okay and first let's recall the
2:34
scripture uh this is Exodus 7 verse
2:38
8-13 then the Lord said to Moses and
2:41
Aaron when Pharaoh says to you prove
2:44
yourselves by working the miracle and I
2:47
want to pause for a second you see this
2:49
time God is the one telling Aaron and
2:52
Moses when he says to you prove yourself
2:54
by working a miracle then you shall say
2:57
to Aaron take your staff and cast it
2:59
down before Pharaoh that he may become a
3:01
serpent you see Pharaoh is asking a
3:04
question and God allows Aaron and Moses
3:07
to perform a miracle they're not testing
3:09
they're not proving themselves because
3:11
they want to do it God is allowing them
3:13
to do that I want I want us to really
3:15
understand at the outset so Moses and
3:18
Aaron went to pharaoh and did just as
3:21
the Lord commanded basically they are
3:24
just obeying the Lord's command because
3:26
they've been called to do something and
3:28
God creates what he command
3:30
so let's understand that now Aaron cast
3:33
down his staff before pharaoh and his
3:35
servant and he became a serpent then
3:38
Pharaoh summoned the wise men and the
3:40
sorcerers and they The Magicians of
3:43
Egypt also did the Same by their secret
3:45
arts for each Man cast down his staff
3:48
and they became servants but Aaron staff
3:51
swallowed up their staffs still
3:54
Pharaoh's heart was hardened and he
3:56
would not listen to them as the Lord had
3:57
said so now we need to understand why
4:00
the serpent sign okay and before we do
4:02
that let's see how Egyptians actually
4:05
viewed serpents I want and looked it up
4:09
and this is what they said a popus also
4:12
called apep or R is an ancient Egyptian
4:16
demon of chaos and he had a form of a
4:19
serpent and he he was the foe of the son
4:23
God Ray who represented all that and it
4:26
represented all that was outside the
4:28
ordered uh Cosmos so apus was a demon of
4:31
chaos and he represented everything that
4:34
that was outside the ordered Cosmos okay
4:38
now although many serpents symbolized
4:40
Divinity and royalty a poist uh
4:44
threatened the underworld and he
4:46
symbolized evil so let's understand that
4:49
so the Egyptians they viewed serpent as
4:53
uh a symbol of evil or sometimes
4:56
Divinity so I just wanted to to set that
4:58
up now now let's also see how
5:02
serpents are viewed in scripture in the
5:05
Bible when when when the Bible mentions
5:07
serpent what does he attach it to we're
5:10
going to look at that so in Genesis we
5:12
see that the snake or serpent is The
5:15
Great Deceiver who led Adam and Eve into
5:18
sin in Genesis 3: 1-7 scripture says now
5:23
the serpent was more crafty than any
5:25
other beast of the field that the Lord
5:27
God had made he said to the woman did
5:30
God actually say you shall not eat of
5:33
any tree in the garden and the woman
5:35
said to the serpent we may eat of the
5:37
fruit of the trees in the garden but God
5:40
said You shall not eat of the fruit of
5:42
the tree that is in the midst of the
5:43
garden neither shall you touch it l you
5:46
die but the serpent said to the woman
5:48
you will not surely die for God knows
5:51
that when you eat it of it your eyes
5:53
will be open and you be like God knowing
5:55
good and evil so when the woman saw that
5:58
the tree was good for food and it was a
6:00
delight to the eyes and the tree was to
6:02
be desired to make one wise she took of
6:04
its fruit and ate and she she also gave
6:07
some to her husband who was with her and
6:09
he ate then the eyes of both were opened
6:12
and they knew that they were naked and
6:14
they sued fig leaves together and made
6:17
themselves L cloths so you can see that
6:19
he's a Great Deceiver okay that's in
6:22
Genesis 3 now let's go to numbers 21 and
6:25
read the account of the fiery serpent
6:27
this is numbers 21:4 to9
6:30
now from Mount hor and they set up by
6:33
the way up to the Red Sea to go around
6:36
to the land of Edom to go around the
6:39
land of Edom and the people became
6:41
impatient on the way and they
6:44
spoke against God and against Moses why
6:49
have you brought us up out of Egypt to
6:51
die in the wilderness for there is no
6:53
food and no water and we Lo this
6:56
worthless food then the Lord sent fiery
6:59
Serv among the people and they bet the
7:01
people so that many people of Israel
7:03
died and the people came to Moses and
7:05
said we have sinned for we have spoken
7:08
against the Lord and against you pray to
7:10
the Lord that he take away the serpent
7:12
from us so Moses prayed for the people
7:15
and the Lord said to Moses make a fiery
7:17
Serpent and set it on the pole and
7:20
everyone who bitten when he sees it
7:22
shall live so Moses made a bronze
7:24
Serpent and set it on the pole and if a
7:26
serpent bit anyone he will look at a
7:28
bronze Serpent and leave live so you can
7:31
see what's going on here like in both
7:33
accounts okay now we see from this
7:35
account that the serpent was usually
7:37
synonymous of evil and death snakes
7:40
usually were responsible of death in
7:42
Genesis 3 we see that it was a
7:44
separation from God and eventually
7:46
physical death and in numbers 21 it was
7:49
physical death so we can conclude that
7:51
the serpent brought
7:53
evil chaos death fear and death
7:57
spiritually so those are the three
7:58
things and four things that we see about
8:00
serpent so we can establish that at the
8:02
outset and now let's go back to the
8:04
account and we can see what we can learn
8:06
from it now let's recall What God Says
8:09
to Moses in Exodus 4: 2-4 the Lord said
8:13
to to Moses what is in that what is that
8:15
in your hand and he said a staff and he
8:18
said throw it on the ground so he threw
8:20
it on the ground and he became a serpent
8:22
and Moses ran from it but the Lord said
8:25
to Moses put out your hand and catch it
8:27
by the tail so he put out his hand and
8:30
caught it and he became a staff in his
8:32
hand again now I'm going to speculate a
8:34
little bit here okay it sounds to me
8:36
more like taking something by the tail
8:39
is basically dominating on controlling
8:41
that thing okay and recall what God told
8:45
Adam and Eve uh in the creation days in
8:48
Genesis 1: 26-28 God said let us make
8:52
men in our image after our likeness and
8:55
let them have dominion over the fish of
8:58
the sea and over the birds of the
8:59
heavens and over the livestock and over
9:02
all the Earth and over every creeping
9:05
thing that creeps on the earth so God
9:08
created man in his own image in the
9:10
image of God he created him male and
9:13
female he created them and God blessed
9:16
them and God said to them be fruitful
9:19
and multiply and fill the Earth and
9:21
subdue it and have dominion over the
9:24
fish of the sea and over the birds of
9:26
the heaven and over every living thing
9:29
that moves on the earth so you can see
9:31
that right now let's go back to the
9:35
account and we're not going to read it
9:37
again because we read that again we
9:39
already read that but let's understand
9:41
what's going on here Moses staff of
9:44
serpent swallowed the other Serpent and
9:47
we need to establish at the outset that
9:49
sometimes Satan and his demons are also
9:52
given permission to mimic The Works of
9:54
God they are right because The Magicians
9:57
were able to do the same thing they
9:58
mimic
10:00
so now but we see that God in this
10:02
account established himself as Supreme
10:05
over all other creatures because he is
10:08
the
10:09
creator by swallowing the other serpents
10:12
God was showing through the agency of
10:14
Aaron and Moses his Supreme Supremacy
10:18
and sovereignty I repeat that again by
10:21
swallowing the other serpent God was
10:24
showing through the agency of Aaron and
10:26
Moses his Supreme Supremacy and and
10:29
sovereignty and one of the pernicious
10:31
errors we make often times is to assume
10:34
that evil and good are on equal grounds
10:37
as if God and the evil one are on equal
10:40
like on equal standing and they're
10:42
contending constantly to see who's going
10:44
to win that's not how it is at all in in
10:47
the Heavenly Realms God far outweighs
10:50
the enemy infinitely because God is the
10:53
creator the scripture clearly tells us
10:56
that he that is in US is greater than he
10:59
that in the world okay I'm going to show
11:01
you some some scriptures to show you the
11:04
sovereignty and the supremacy of God
11:05
over all creation and creatures the
11:09
enemy and his minions included because
11:11
we need to really understand that God
11:13
isn't fighting against Satan and they
11:14
not like it's not like an equation where
11:17
you have God here and Satan here now God
11:20
far
11:21
outweighs the enemy like he an
11:23
inequality God is far superior okay so
11:27
let's look at First Kings 22:18 to 23
11:30
Job 1 6-12 and Luke
11:32
22 30-32 we're going to come back to our
11:36
our stuff in a second now I'm going to
11:38
tell you exactly what this passage is
11:39
all about and Ahab um and then
11:42
Jehoshaphat they want to fight against
11:45
um one of Israel's enemy and and um
11:49
there's this false prophets that are
11:50
prophesying that Ahab is going to win
11:52
this battle and then um Jehoshaphat
11:56
realizes that listen these prophets are
11:58
full of lies I want an actual Prophet to
12:00
come here and tell the truth and Ahab
12:02
tells um Jehoshaphat there's one his
12:06
name is MAA but I don't like him because
12:08
he never says anything good about me he
12:10
never prophesies good anything good
12:12
about me but uh Jehosaphat convinces uh
12:16
Ahab and then m is in the picture M
12:18
comes in and then we're going to listen
12:20
to what M says okay so uh we're going to
12:24
pick up from verse 19 and Mah said
12:28
therefore here the word of the Lord I
12:30
Saw the Lord sitting on his throne and
12:32
all the host of Heaven standing beside
12:34
him on his right hand and on his left
12:36
hand and the Lord said who will entice
12:40
Ahab that he may go up and fall at Remo
12:44
Gilead and one said one thing and
12:46
another said another then his Spirit
12:49
came forward and stood before the Lord
12:50
saying I will entice him and the Lord
12:53
said to him by what means and he said I
12:57
go out and will be a lying spirit in the
12:59
mouth of All His prophets and he say you
13:02
are to entice him and you shall succeed
13:03
go out and do so now therefore behold
13:06
the Lord has put a lying spirit in the
13:08
mouth of all these Prophet the Lord has
13:11
declared disaster for you okay you see
13:14
what's going on here the demon has to
13:17
ask for permission he is not a free
13:19
agent and God allows him now those
13:22
Prophet Heard a Voice but it wasn't the
13:24
voice of God they heard a voice of a
13:26
demon let's let's set that out the said
13:29
understand that so they were given
13:31
permission but the demon has to ask for
13:33
permission he's not just roaming around
13:36
and doing whatever they want okay and
13:39
now let's go to job 1:
13:41
6-12 now there was a day when the sons
13:44
of God came to present themselves before
13:46
the Lord and Satan also came among them
13:49
and the Lord said to Satan from where
13:50
have you come from and Satan answered
13:53
the Lord and said from going to and
13:55
through on the earth and from walking up
13:57
and down on it and the Lord say to Satan
13:59
have you considered my servant job that
14:02
there is none like him on the earth a
14:04
blameless and upright man who fears God
14:06
and turns Away From Evil then Satan
14:08
answered the Lord and said does job fear
14:11
God for no reason have you not put a
14:14
hedge around him and his house and all
14:16
that he has on every side you have
14:19
blessed the work of his hand and his
14:21
possessions and have increased in the
14:24
land but stretch out your hand and touch
14:26
all that he has and he will curse it you
14:29
your face and the Lord said to Satan
14:32
behold all that he has in is in your
14:35
hand only against him do not stretch out
14:37
your hand so Satan went out from the
14:39
presence of the Lord you see Satan
14:42
himself is not a free
14:44
agent he has to ask for permission prior
14:49
to attacking one of God's Saints he
14:53
doesn't just go and do it God allows him
14:56
but again what Satan means for evil God
14:59
also means for
15:00
good now Luke 22:
15:04
30-32
15:06
now Jesus tell um Peter Simon Simon
15:10
Satan has asked to sift all of you as
15:13
wheat but I have prayed for you Simon
15:16
that your faith may not fail and when
15:18
you have turned back strengthen your
15:21
brothers so you can see from this three
15:23
accounts that Satan is not a free agent
15:26
he definitely has to ask for permission
15:29
and we learn that we need to understand
15:31
that because we sometimes think that
15:33
Satan and God are on equal ground and I
15:35
really want to drill that into you today
15:37
that understand God is supreme over all
15:40
things like he has sovereignty nothing
15:43
happens apart from God allowing it to
15:46
happen for his own purposes okay now
15:50
let's set that now let's keep going so
15:52
basically there is more to this instance
15:55
than the supernatural power and
15:56
sovereignty of God and to one understand
15:59
the other implications of the story we
16:01
need to go to 1 Corinthians 15:
16:04
53-57 so let's do that now so the
16:08
scripture says in 1 Corinthians 15:53 to
16:11
55 for this perishable body must put on
16:15
the imperishable and this Mortal body
16:18
must put on the
16:19
immortality when the perishable puts on
16:21
the imperishable and Immortal puts on IM
16:25
immortality then shall come to pass the
16:27
same that is is written that is written
16:31
death is swallowed up in Victory oh
16:35
death where is your Victory oh death
16:38
what is your Sting the sting of death is
16:41
sin and the power of sin is the law but
16:44
thanks be to God who gives us the
16:46
victory through our Lord Jesus Christ
16:50
Now by swallowing the other serpent the
16:53
Lord was also showing that he had power
16:56
over death it's almost almost if Moses
16:59
was preaching the
17:01
resurrection see death represented by
17:03
the magician serpents was swallowed up
17:06
and death was Jesus last enemy according
17:10
to 1 Corinthians 15: 25-27 let's see
17:14
that scripture says for he must Reign
17:17
meaning Jesus until he has put all his
17:20
enemies under his feet The Last Enemy to
17:24
be destroyed is death for God has put
17:28
all things in subjection under his feet
17:31
but when he says all things are in
17:33
subjection it is plain that he's
17:36
expected he is expect he is expected
17:39
will put all things in subjection under
17:41
him okay God basically was establishing
17:46
through Moses his power and dominion
17:48
over Mankind's fiercest enemy physical
17:51
death and spiritual death which is
17:53
separation from god let's also go to
17:55
Hebrews 2:14 the scripture says since
17:59
therefore the children share in Flesh
18:01
and Blood he himself meaning Jesus
18:03
likewise partook of the same things that
18:07
through death he might destroy the one
18:10
who has the power of death that is the
18:13
devil so you
18:15
see Jesus through his death destroyed
18:18
the one who has power of death Satan's
18:21
power is death basically but God has
18:23
power over death by swallowing the
18:27
serpents of Egypt God was demonstrating
18:30
his ultimate power and dominion over our
18:33
greatest enemy death physical and
18:37
spiritual separation from God God was
18:40
saying I have power over sin because
18:43
I've destroyed it by
18:46
nailing uh Jesus on the cross the Lord
18:49
was saying look I'm killing what was
18:51
killing you sin is killing you and I
18:54
killed it remember what Jesus says for
18:57
as Moses lifted up the serpent in the
19:00
wilderness even so must the Son of God
19:02
be lifted up that whoever looks to him
19:05
shall not perish but have everlasting
19:07
life see God nailed it on the cross he
19:10
killed what was killing us so by Moses
19:14
staff swallowing the other serpents God
19:17
was saying I am killing what is killing
19:20
you I'm killing death through the
19:23
resurrection of Christ through the power
19:25
of God demonstrated by Jesus on the
19:28
cross we have victory over death and we
19:31
have been saved by
19:33
grace through the instrument of Faith so
19:36
that we may have life eternally with God
19:40
so this is good news so I don't want us
19:42
to just focus on the Miracle when you
19:45
read this account but I want you to see
19:47
the work of Christ through it because
19:50
the word of God is really about exalting
19:52
Christ that's all this is all about so
19:55
every scripture is about Jesus Christ
19:58
and his work and who how he's so worthy
20:02
of all our adoration and praise so when
20:04
you look at these passages this is what
20:07
I want you to focus on he ask the Lord
20:08
to open your eyes to see now this is a
20:13
very um difficult task because we are
20:16
not we are called to really remain um
20:20
consistent with scripture and his truth
20:22
so when you read the scriptures and you
20:24
read this account you you ask the Lord
20:26
to to let the Bible be its own inter
20:28
preter by looking at other scriptures
20:31
that have references to the same
20:33
scripture that you're reading so you can
20:35
be understand what is being what is
20:37
being taught so don't just focus on the
20:40
Miracles as great as they are but see
20:43
what God is teaching beside and in and
20:45
and um in the Miracles through the
20:48
Miracles okay so God swallowed up the
20:52
serpent by showing that he has power
20:55
over chaos he has power over death he
20:59
has power over sin and he's given us
21:01
that freedom in Christ and one day we
21:03
will be perfect as god is perfect
21:06
because this is the promise that we have
21:07
eternal
21:09
life okay now go back and read those
21:12
passages again and have a wonderful day
21:14
and I'll see you next time thank you
