In this video, I dive into Romans 7 and share a raw reflection on the battle between our old sinful nature and the new life given through Christ. If you've ever felt torn between doing what’s right and falling short, you’re not alone—even the Apostle Paul wrestled with this very struggle.
We’ll explore the truth about being spiritually dead before Christ, the transformation brought by the Holy Spirit, and the ongoing process of sanctification. This is not about religion—this is about the reality of regeneration, the power of grace, and the truth that your salvation is God’s work alone.
🔹 What does it mean to be born again?
🔹 Can a person be good without God?
🔹 Why do we still struggle with sin after salvation?
🔹 How can we live in victory while still battling the flesh?
Paul said, "O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?" The answer: Jesus Christ our Lord.
If this resonates with you, like, share, and subscribe. Let’s walk this journey of faith together, with honesty and humility. ✝️

I wanted to share something on uh the
0:02
book of Romans that I was reading like a
0:03
couple of days ago. Actually, I've been
0:05
reading this chapter like constantly for
0:06
a long time, but I just wanted to share
0:08
this with you. Uh is Romans 7. So Paul
0:11
the apostle is talking about the
0:13
contrast between the old nature and the
0:16
new nature that is made to look like
0:18
Jesus Christ. Right? In the book of
0:20
Romans, the scripture tells us that all
0:22
things work together for good for those
0:23
who love God and have been called
0:25
according to his purpose. Because those
0:27
whom he has called, he has also
0:28
justified so that they will be make
0:30
they'll be made new into the likeness of
0:33
the son. The son meaning Jesus Christ.
0:35
So now here's the thing like a lot of
0:37
people don't understand some basic
0:38
things about being born again. Right? So
0:42
before you came to know Jesus Christ,
0:45
you were dead spiritually,
0:48
right? You were dead spiritually, which
0:50
means there was nothing in you that
0:52
desired anything about God. So by
0:55
nature, the scripture tells us that we
0:57
are objects of wrath, which means that
0:59
by nature, we are at enmity with God.
1:04
There's nothing in us that desires God.
1:06
So think about this. What can a dead man
1:08
do? A dead man do to raise himself up
1:11
from being dead physically. Absolutely
1:15
nothing. So basically, if you are
1:16
biologically dead, you are dead. There's
1:19
nothing you can do as a dead man to
1:21
raise yourself up from the grave. Right?
1:23
So this is how you were spiritually.
1:26
Meaning when you came out of your
1:27
mother's womb, you were dead spiritually
1:30
by nature. So there was nothing in you
1:31
that wanted anything to do with God. So
1:34
you were by nature an enemy of God
1:36
because you were dead. There's nothing
1:38
in you that liked God. So in Romans 7,
1:40
listen to what Paul talks about here.
1:42
The contrast between the old nature and
1:45
the new nature. Listen to what he says
1:47
here. Right? For we know that the law is
1:50
spiritual, but I am of the flesh. sold
1:53
under sin. What does that mean? The law
1:56
of God itself is spiritual. It's a good
1:58
law. Right? But but but but right you
2:02
are of the flesh which means that by
2:05
nature you do not have the spiritual
2:07
nature of God in you. So you were dead
2:09
by nature right sold under sin. So
2:12
before your salvation your master was
2:15
sin. That's all you wanted to do right.
2:18
But then when you you are born again,
2:20
there's a new nature that God endows you
2:22
with because of the Holy Spirit. Now the
2:25
scripture tells us here for in Romans
2:27
7:15, for I do not understand my own
2:29
actions. So now that you are saved and
2:32
now that you are born again, now there's
2:34
there is the struggle between the old
2:36
nature and the new nature. Listen to
2:38
what Paul says. For I do not do what I
2:40
want. Right? So because of the Holy
2:42
Spirit in him now, he wants to do right.
2:44
Right. But then what the old nature
2:47
keeps pulling a little bit right but I
2:49
do the very thing that I hate right now
2:52
if I do what I do not want I agree with
2:55
the law that it is good because now that
2:57
you have been born again now that you
2:59
have the new nature in you understand
3:01
the law of God and you are desperately
3:03
trying to do what is right because the
3:05
spirit of God is working in you as said
3:07
in Ephesians to will and act according
3:09
to the good purpose. Right? And then
3:11
Paul says in verse 17, so now it is no
3:14
longer I who do it but sin that dwells
3:17
within me. And then he gives the punch
3:19
line in verse 18. For I know that
3:22
nothing good dwells in me that is in my
3:26
flesh.
3:28
So in your old nature there is nothing
3:30
good about your own nature. Forget what
3:32
you've heard. So because some people
3:34
believe that you actually people are
3:35
born good. This is the lie that we've
3:37
heard from the secular world that we are
3:39
born good. like we people are naturally
3:42
good. It's just society that corrupts
3:44
people. That is not true. Society does
3:46
not corrupt you. You are corrupted upon
3:48
arrival. So when you come out of your
3:50
mother's womb, you are dead on arrival.
3:52
D O A. You hate God. Scripture tells us
3:55
in Romans 1, right? There's none
3:56
righteous. Not even one. None. Not Neil
4:00
Mandela, not anybody that was born by
4:03
human decision is by nature an enemy of
4:06
God. The only one that was born without
4:09
sin was Jesus Christ. All of us, we came
4:11
out of our mother's womb shaking our
4:13
feet at God because we hate God by
4:15
nature until the Holy Spirit comes upon
4:17
you and now you become a child of God.
4:19
The scripture tells us for those who do
4:21
not have the spirit of God are not
4:23
children of God. So if you don't have
4:25
the spirit of God in you, you are not a
4:26
child of God. A lot of people say we are
4:28
all God's children. That is not true. A
4:30
Muslim is not a child of God. He's a
4:33
creature of God, but he's not a child of
4:35
God. When I say God, I'm talking about
4:36
the God of the scripture, right? A
4:39
Buddhist is not a child of God. He's a
4:40
creature, but he's not a child of God.
4:43
The only people that can that can be
4:45
called children of God are those who
4:48
have in them the Holy Spirit. So if
4:51
you're not indwelled by the Holy Spirit,
4:54
you are a child of Satan. That's just
4:56
clear. People hate that, but this is the
4:59
truth. Right now listen to what Paul
5:01
says in verse 18 again. For I have the
5:03
desire to do what is right. He wants to
5:06
do what is right in his new nature but
5:08
not the ability to carry that out
5:10
because there's that pool right for I do
5:13
not do the good that I want but the evil
5:15
that I do not want is what I keep on
5:16
doing. Now if I do what I do not want it
5:19
is no longer I would do it but sin that
5:21
dwells within me. So the old nature is
5:24
there still but the sanctification
5:26
process is doing what? By you being
5:29
sanctified daily, you put to death the
5:31
deeds of the old nature which is your
5:34
natural nature. Right? Now you are
5:37
resembling Jesus Christ. Now what's
5:39
going to happen is this. When Jesus
5:41
comes back, our body will be fully
5:43
redeemed and I no longer will have the
5:45
capacity to sin because I'll be fully
5:47
redeemed. Until then, we are still
5:49
struggling with the old nature because
5:52
that old nature is still not giving up,
5:55
right? But if you're a child of God, you
5:57
are born again. How do you know if
5:58
you're born again? Well, look at the
6:00
desires of your heart. Do you delight in
6:02
the law of God? Do you like the things
6:04
of God? Right? Some people claim that,
6:06
well, I love Jesus, but then your life
6:09
is contrary. I'm not saying that you
6:11
would never sin. Now, it is possible to
6:13
live a perfect life once you're born
6:15
again. But most of us can't do that
6:17
because that old nature, we we have a
6:19
baggage this much, right? When we are
6:21
born again, we came with this baggage
6:23
and little by little in small increment
6:25
the old the new nature is doing away
6:27
with the old things of the flesh which
6:29
is the old nature. Right now God begins
6:32
to change the way you think. Romans 12
6:35
verse uh 2 tells us that we transformed
6:37
by the renewing of your minds because
6:39
our mindset is warped. We have this
6:43
deadly nature that we come out of our
6:44
mother's womb with and then over the
6:46
years we accumulate so much baggage and
6:49
now that we are born again God is little
6:51
by little taking away the old desires
6:54
and putting in you new desires. So
6:56
that's what it means to be born again
6:58
and to be sanctified. But there is that
7:00
struggle, right? So we thank God for the
7:04
things that he has done for us because
7:06
honestly I used to think that I was a
7:09
good person. I fooled myself. Well, I
7:11
don't do this. I don't do this or no.
7:13
You see that we don't understand the
7:15
goodness of God. And what God requires
7:17
is God when God evaluates you and I, he
7:20
doesn't do it based on the next person.
7:22
He does it based on himself. You see, we
7:25
don't understand that. So, it's easy for
7:26
me to look at somebody that does drugs,
7:28
that does all kinds of filthy stuff that
7:30
I'm better than him. So, therefore, I
7:32
must be a good person. But if I put
7:34
myself under the microscope and then put
7:36
myself next to God,
7:39
guess what? The prophet Isaiah in the
7:42
book of Isaiah chapter 7, he say, "Woe
7:46
to me for I'm a sinful man." Isaiah was
7:49
more sanctified than you and I ever
7:51
would be in our life. But when Isaiah
7:54
was confronted with the holiness of God,
7:56
Isaiah became like a bug. He understood
7:59
for the first time that he was a sinful
8:00
person. See, we don't understand how sin
8:03
is sin. Sin is so bad that we don't even
8:07
understand how sinful we are until we
8:09
are confronted with the holiness of God.
8:11
I wish more preachers will preach about
8:12
the holiness of God. Because what we've
8:14
done in the church lately is talk about
8:16
the love of God, which I don't deny. The
8:18
love of God is there. God is love. Now,
8:20
because God is love, he hates sin.
8:22
That's the thing. Love must cling on to
8:25
what is good and hate all that is evil.
8:28
You can't claim to be a Christian
8:31
and then cling on to the things of the
8:33
flesh. You're going to fight it, right?
8:36
Because because God is holy. He gives
8:39
you the desire to want to be holy. God
8:42
forbid. I hate the summer time because
8:43
in the summer time there's a lot of
8:44
temptations. I wish I could just close
8:47
my eyes and just walk like this. So I'm
8:49
fighting that daily. put to death the
8:52
desires of the old nature. The old
8:53
nature tell you look look this way look
8:55
this way. You go no I don't because I
8:57
want to be sanctified. I want to be a
8:58
vessel for God's use. The scripture
9:00
tells us that blessed are the pure in
9:02
heart for they shall see God right.
9:04
Blessed are those who are pure in heart.
9:06
So basically
9:08
like the purity of heart is necessary
9:10
for you to see God. Now this is like
9:13
little if you were pure in heart you
9:15
will see God. But because we are not
9:17
pure, that's why we don't see God with
9:19
our optics. Because we are so filled
9:21
with filth and God is taking away that
9:23
filth. Right? Eventually when Jesus
9:26
comes back and takes us back to himself,
9:29
we will be eventually saved. Saved and
9:32
saved and saved completely. I can't wait
9:34
till the day that I can no longer sin
9:36
anymore. That's my desire. Right? And
9:40
Paul says here, this is why Paul
9:41
concludes it in in verse 21- 24 in
9:43
Romans chapter 7. It says here, "For I
9:46
find it I find it to be a law that when
9:48
I want to do right, evil lies close at
9:51
hand. For I delight in the law of God in
9:54
my inner being. But I see in my members
9:58
another law waging war against the law
10:00
of my mind and making me captive to the
10:02
law of sin that dwells in my members."
10:05
His members talking about his own
10:06
nature. And Paul says in verse 24, "Oh
10:10
wretched man that I am, who will deliver
10:12
me from this body of death? because he
10:14
understands
10:16
and he goes thanks be to God through
10:18
Jesus Christ our Lord. So then I myself
10:21
serve the law of God with my mind but
10:23
with my flesh I serve the law of sin. So
10:26
Paul says that anytime he's trying to do
10:28
right evil lies close at hand because
10:30
that old nature is still trying to hold
10:32
on to things right now. It was told that
10:35
what Paul was making reference to this
10:37
old nature. It was told that in the
10:38
ancient world now I don't know if this
10:40
is true but I was listening to a sport
10:41
and he mentions this that what happened
10:44
is this if you killed somebody and you
10:46
were found to be a murderer. So what
10:48
they did was they tied the body of the
10:50
person that you killed to your body as a
10:53
way of punishment and that body rotted
10:55
and petrified behind your back. So when
10:58
Paul is talking in Romans 7, people say
11:00
that that's what he was making mention
11:01
of. Now I'm not sure if this is true.
11:03
This is what tradition says. So
11:05
basically that body behind you is dead.
11:07
It's petrified. Now it can no longer
11:09
hurt you but it smell is still there.
11:11
This is what the analogy that Paul is
11:14
trying to create here. Like we have a
11:16
new nature now that we are born again.
11:18
But that old nature wants to hang on.
11:20
Even though he's dead, it still creates
11:23
a little bit of uh I would say
11:25
annoyances, irritability. And that old
11:28
nature still does that. I'm finding that
11:30
every day as a Christian you understand.
11:33
And so that's why Paul says, I find it
11:35
to be a law that when I want to do
11:36
right, evil lies close at hand. Find
11:39
yourself on the highway. I find it so
11:41
many times I'm driving, somebody cuts me
11:42
off and I want to flip him. I want to
11:44
say a bunch of stuff, but I have to hold
11:46
myself, no Lord, please help me. I don't
11:48
want to do this. I get tempted on the
11:50
basketball court when I'm playing
11:51
basketball. I like to trash talk a lot,
11:54
but I have to make sure I'm I'm I'm um
11:57
displaying humility.
11:59
See, so when you want to do right, evil
12:02
lies close at hand. This is a struggle.
12:05
But as a born again believer, you have
12:07
the capacity to live above that. The
12:10
scripture tells us that the Holy Spirit
12:12
that whom he has made to dwell within
12:14
us, give us that strength. It is God who
12:17
works in us. How? Through the Holy
12:19
Spirit to will and act according to his
12:21
good purpose. So now, now there's one
12:24
thing that I want to mention. I'm going
12:25
to close this off. It's like your
12:26
salvation is is uh that's a ter it's
12:30
basically a work of the Holy Spirit
12:32
alone. He had nothing to do with your
12:34
salvation. Some people say, "Well, I
12:36
received, you know, I accepted Jesus."
12:38
You didn't have the desire to accept
12:39
Jesus unless God himself through the the
12:42
Holy Spirit just a regeneration of your
12:44
heart and now allows you to love God.
12:46
When Paul was going away to Damascus, he
12:49
didn't have any desire to obey God until
12:52
the Holy Spirit stopped him in his
12:53
tracks and then he changed. So Paul had
12:56
nothing to do with the salvation anymore
12:58
that you had nothing to do with your own
13:00
birth. So your spiritual birth is just
13:02
like your natural birth. You have no
13:04
part in that. So your salvation is a
13:06
work of the Holy Spirit alone. You have
13:08
no part in that. Right? The father is
13:11
the one that chooses the son dies for us
13:13
and the holy spirit is the one that
13:14
applies the grace of God in our heart.
13:17
Now after that now you work in
13:18
collaboration with the holy spirit as he
13:21
and then you put to death the desires of
13:22
the old nature. So, that's all I wanted
13:25
to share today. Hopefully, this helps
13:26
you guys out. That's all I wanted to
13:28
say. Have a wonderful day and enjoy the
13:30
rest of day. Fourth of July is tomorrow.
13:31
Make sure you go out there and have fun.
13:33
All right. Thank you and I'll see you
13:34
next time.
