All I would do is give him a hug and go
0:02
you got this, it's going to be okay. It's going to be rough, but believe me, you've got this
0:09
And that would be the only thing that I would need. Robbie, Michael, hello, hello
0:15
Thank you so much for sitting down. How are you? Yes, good. Nice to see you
0:19
Nice to see you as well. Congratulations on this film. First of what I want to say, it's just beautifully done
0:26
The way you told your story, it was raw. honest, it's emotional and how you filmed it
0:32
It's just, it blew my mind. There you go. Thank you so much. It's beautifully done. It really is
0:36
Thank you. Now, this, you two getting together, it obviously makes perfect sense
0:41
But didn't the making of this film, didn't that sort of happen by accident? Yeah
0:45
I mean, yeah, us coming together sort of happened by accident. It was, Hugh Jackman is a huge fan of Rob's
0:51
And he would reference him a lot to the point of annoyance during the Greater Showman
0:56
And then there was a moment where he was doused. the music and my voice telling him that it was good had sort of lost its impact And so in a very critical moment where Hugh wanted to start again on the music I tracked down Rob through my lawyer
1:19
I thought I was being pitched the movie. I thought I was being pitched the opportunity
1:24
And in my head I'm like, yep, I'll do it. And then he played me the music and I'm like, mind blown
1:31
And then he showed me the, what are they called? Concept art
1:35
Concept art. And I'm like, yeah, I'll. Do it. And then he went, and here's a favor I need to ask
1:40
And I'm like, anything. And he said, will you contact Hugh Jackman and convince him to do it
1:45
And I was like, yeah, I'll, um, oh, I didn't know this
1:49
I didn't know this until recently, by the way. Oh, you did it? No
1:53
Imagine if I turn up at your house and go, listen, I've got this film I'm doing
1:57
It's called the greatest film director. And then I go, can you get Sam Mendes
2:04
He's got a point. I'm sorry. Right? I mean, do you know Stephen Spielberg
2:09
When you feel like that, yeah. I know, I know in hindsight, maybe
2:13
I know for you Robbie you are in this film seen as a CGI monkey which when I first saw the trailer by the way my first like brain thought went to me and my monkey That what I thought Oh is it something to do with this And it not It got so much more of a deeper meaning to you So how is that and how is it seeing your life betrayed through a chimp size
2:35
Well, thank you for even knowing that song exists. Big fan. God bless you
2:40
Yeah, I mean, I love surreal and I love eccentricity. This idea is an eccentric idea
2:48
and before Michael had got to the end of the sentence pitching it to me, I was totally in
2:54
I find it really unusual that people find it unusual. I'm somebody that not everything has to make sense
3:02
And the idea on paper, I know doesn't make sense to a lot of people
3:07
The idea on a 50-foot screen makes more sense than it should
3:13
And also, you are responding to an animal with way more compassion and empathy
3:18
than you would have for this particular animal. That's true. You really made me think that, actually
3:25
You really did, yeah, yeah, yeah. Now in this movie you do go through and you show us that there are two sides to fame You have the incredible highs and then you have the real dark clothes What would you say to your younger self knowing now what you do know
3:43
The only, I couldn't say anything to him because you wouldn't listen anyway
3:47
You know, we all believe that we know everything when we're 16, 17, 18, 19, 21 and
3:53
and, you know, as a 50 year old, I realize how little I know. All I would do is give him a hug and go, you got this, it's going to be okay
4:03
it's going to be rough, but believe me, you've got this. And that would be the only thing that I would need
4:10
And then I'd be like, 50-year-old me, stop being a perv. Right, and if you can both just sum up this movie in three words, what would they be
4:21
Michael? Emotional. I think that's something that people are quite surprised about
4:26
I think they're expecting great musical numbers and a great story and fun than that
4:32
but I think it goes to places that are incredibly emotional. This movie loves you and wants you to have an incredible experience and it delivers
4:42
This is hard
