Good morning, Miriam and Charlie. Yes, it is meant to be allegedly the first day of spring
0:07
isn't it? I'm not quite sure. Spring has sprung here in North Yorkshire. You can see some
0:13
beautiful daffodils behind us, so that's something. But yes, it's the International Day of Happiness
0:19
decreed by the United Nations. They put together a report every year based on how happy 147
0:27
countries across the world are. And in their report as well, they focus on different things
0:32
each year. This year, they've been focusing on the link between social media and happiness
0:37
But the list of those countries, where does Britain come, would you say? Well, it comes
0:42
at number 28 out of 147. So it's not even on the top 20 list. The top five, though, of
0:50
happy countries, number one is Finland. Then that's followed by Iceland, Denmark, Costa
0:56
and Sweden and at the bottom of the list are Sierra Leone and Afghanistan But we here in Skipton as last year it was voted the happiest place to live
1:07
and that was a survey done by Rightmove and there was a variety of things
1:11
that made it the happiest place to live. It's a bustling market town, the market's on in fact today
1:17
It's got a medieval castle, a medieval church, winding cobbly streets, plenty of shops to go to, both chain stores and independent stores
1:25
and lots of lovely restaurants and cafes as well. I've been speaking to people here in Skipton
1:31
about what they love about the town. This is what they told me. Skipton's great
1:35
The chatty people, everywhere you go, it's not just because you're a tourist visitor
1:40
I'm a non-Skiptonian that moved here and I feel welcomed. I was born and bred here in Skipton, so it's my hometown
1:48
I absolutely love it. The people are fantastic. The people are so friendly
1:51
and it's just the happiest place to be. Look at this. You can walk down the High Street and there's always someone you know
1:59
Everybody says hello. Everybody's welcoming. It's just a great place to be
