0:02
a lot of people are talking about
0:04
pictures of a red roofed house this
0:06
house is almost untouched even though
0:09
the area around it was destroyed by
0:11
fires in Maui the house is on Front
0:14
Street and it is very old about 100
0:17
years most of the nearby town called La
0:21
was burned down by the fires the people
0:24
who own the house are surprised that it
0:26
is still standing they are wondering why
0:29
it didn't burn like the other houses the
0:32
owner's name is FIP
0:34
milikin he said the house looks like it
0:37
was added to the pictures using a
0:40
computer program in Mai they are still
0:43
looking for missing people because of
0:45
the fires many people have died and some
0:47
are still not found over 12200 people
0:50
who were on the missing list are safe
0:52
now the fires destroyed a lot of Laha
0:55
and it is the worst natural disaster in
0:58
Hawaii's history the president president
1:00
of the United States Joe Biden went to
1:02
Hawaii to see the damage caused by the
1:05
fires the people who owned the red
1:07
roofed house were not at home when the
1:10
fire happened they were in
1:12
Massachusetts they heard about the fire
1:15
and thought their house would also burn
1:17
but the next day they saw pictures from
1:19
the sky and their house was okay they
1:22
felt very happy and also a little bit
1:25
guilty that their house survived when
1:27
others didn't the milans think maybe the
1:30
changes they made to the house helped
1:33
save it they fixed up the old house
1:36
because it was not in good condition
1:38
they put a stronger metal roof on it and
1:41
put stones around it they also cleared
1:44
away plants near the house these things
1:47
might have helped protect the house from
1:49
the fire but they didn't do these things
1:52
to stop the fire their house is made of
1:55
wood so it's not fireproof Mrs milikin
1:59
said big pieces of food from the fire
2:02
hit other houses and set them on fire
2:05
because they had different TRS but their
2:07
metal roof didn't catch fire she also
2:10
thinks that their house is a bit far
2:13
from the others might have helped keep
2:15
it safe the milans want to go back to
2:18
their town lahina when it is safe they
2:22
want to help people who lost their homes
2:24
they know many people have died and lost
2:27
everything they think everyone should
2:29
work together to rebuild the town and
2:32
support each other
