In a significant development for Russia's strategic air power, Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov revealed in November 2024 that the legendary Tu-95 "Bear" bomber has undergone extensive modernization into the Tu-95MSM variant. This historic aircraft, which first took flight 45 years ago, remains the world's fastest turboprop aircraft and the only mass-produced turboprop bomber in existence. The modernization program incorporates several critical upgrades: Integration of advanced aviation weaponry, including ultra-long-range cruise missiles New Novella-NV1.021 radar system replacing the older Obzor-MS Enhanced Meteor-NM2 onboard defense complex Updated NK-12MPM turboprop engines and AV-60T propellers Modern SOI-021 information display system Advanced navigation and communication systems Improved astro-navigation system (ANS-2009) Performance Specifications: Maximum operational range: 15,000 kilometers Payload capacity: 20,000 kg Armament: Up to 8 Kh-101/Kh-102 cruise missiles Power: Four NK-12MP engines producing 15,000 horsepower each Crew complement: Seven members
