0:00
hey I'm here with twiy treats again they
0:02
are a freeze-dried candy company here in
0:04
Salt Lake City Utah and last time I
0:07
visited them you didn't really have this
0:09
whole facility that you're operating
0:10
this business out of and so Jesus who's
0:13
co-founded this company with his wife
0:15
Mel is going to take us through a tour
0:17
of trendy treats so you're getting a
0:19
very special treat today uh to show
0:22
everything that happens here in this
0:23
facility yeah know thank you for being
0:24
here actually you were the first one to
0:26
ever come to this facility and I know it
0:28
looks completely different already so
0:30
I'm excited to show you guys everything
0:31
about the facility because we put in a
0:33
lot of work we really poured a lot into
0:35
this into this building um and then I
0:38
want to start off with this wall
0:39
actually we started in 2021 actually we
0:42
started out of my bedroom uh that's
0:44
where the company started it's what our
0:46
bag looked like just a sticker we didn't
0:48
know what we were doing with nutrition
0:50
um didn't really have nutrition labels
0:53
and then we learned the Nam of the game
0:55
we should probably put the back of the
0:56
bag now on there to show the progression
0:58
of that just because it was one of the
1:00
toughest challenges is not being
1:01
involved in the food industry and then
1:03
saying how do I even tell someone how
1:05
many calories this has and I was going
1:07
to notice too like right here like these
1:09
are stickers for all your labeling of
1:11
your product which like a lot of people
1:13
do when they're first starting out and
1:15
now you actually have it printed in bulk
1:18
and you have a little bit more direction
1:20
of like what the entire bag looks like
1:22
but you still stuck with the window too
1:24
yeah so we have some exciting stuff
1:25
coming for 2025 that we're already
1:27
working on and um you'll actually the
1:30
first one to see it here on your channel
1:31
oh yeah and if you want to see the
1:33
global first reveal to me you can check
1:36
out the previous video that I did for
1:38
triny treats which that was the first
1:40
person that really kind of tasted it
1:42
from a media perspective too so it was
1:44
awesome that's when it launched and now
1:46
it's blowing up so let's take a look
1:47
let's show you guys a candy factory here
1:49
through this hallway we have all the
1:51
candy that's ready to get shipped out to
1:53
stores or online uh e-commerce like
1:56
Amazon uh Tik Tok shop this is our new
1:59
product right here it's actually the
2:01
gummy ghost uh which will actually let
2:03
you try I don't think you've tried it
2:04
yet right uh it actually launched 2
2:06
weeks ago it's the first product it's
2:08
actually not the first product that we
2:09
launched but it's the first product this
2:11
year that we launched that's not freeze
2:12
dried okay so yeah that's I was going to
2:14
ask you so it's not a freeze DED product
2:16
but it's a just a new Candy that's sweet
2:18
for your business yeah so it's a gummy
2:20
ghost it's uh Jilly has been our mascot
2:22
since we started the company and we're
2:24
finally bringing him to life the first
2:26
thing we did was make his own candy so
2:28
it's a sour blue raspberry gun that we
2:30
launched um it's doing well so as I said
2:33
everything on this aisle is ready to get
2:34
shipped out so this is orders that have
2:36
been processed already um as you can see
2:39
we're currently all across the US in a
2:42
few different countries and yeah this is
2:45
this aisle is just dedicated to product
2:48
that is ready um we might see some boxes
2:51
but that's only because we sell
2:52
specialty boxes now to some stores and
2:55
they have to get built in store so what
2:57
made you decide to like focus on on two
3:00
different types of candies the freeze
3:01
dried and also now just adding more
3:04
non-freeze dried so it's funny but when
3:07
we launched um we actually launched as
3:09
an online candy store um in 2020 and we
3:13
sold all different types of candy the
3:14
first candy that we actually made in
3:16
house was a slime candy it was edible
3:18
slime that you could play with and also
3:21
eat and then we decided to launch a sour
3:23
spray candy that makes everything sour I
3:26
can uh show you a little bit of those
3:27
examples of what we had but then after
3:29
that is really when we got into freeze
3:31
drying candy and when we got into freeze
3:33
dried candy it's what a lot of people
3:34
started getting to know us for um late
3:37
20120 we were always thinking about our
3:40
name because we launched as for you feed
3:42
and we were always thinking like should
3:43
we launch as freeze dried candy should
3:46
we launch as a freeze-dried candy store
3:48
um what should our identity be because
3:51
we were an online candy store at the
3:52
time and we didn't know what route we
3:53
wanted to take and the reason we decided
3:55
to launch as trendy treats is because we
3:57
didn't want to be tied in into one
4:00
specific type of candy so we almost went
4:04
with our whole brand being tied up to
4:07
freeze dried and the reason we chose
4:08
trendy treats is because we always want
4:10
to provide people with trending candy
4:12
and trending treats and we've always
4:15
just had that mission our mission has
4:16
never been to provide people with
4:18
freeze-dried candy it's been to provide
4:20
people with trending treats and that's
4:21
why we went all in on on freeze-dried
4:23
candy early 2020 and that's why we've
4:26
gone all in ever since then but as we
4:28
continue to grow and evolve we want to
4:31
keep providing people with the candies
4:33
that they love and innovating the candy
4:35
industry it sounds like you do a really
4:37
good job listening to your customers of
4:39
like what they want and then making the
4:41
candies that they want to have
4:43
definitely I always tell people our
4:44
customers are our CEO because they
4:45
decide where we go and they decide the
4:47
direction of the company yeah and their
4:49
mission has always been to make the
4:50
world sweeter so I it's all building
4:52
upon that so awesome so we have all
4:54
different types of products that are
4:56
going to get free d early we have all
4:58
our bags different types of pouches is
5:00
this is what's next in line to get
5:01
freeze dried so for anyone wondering if
5:04
we're still freeze drying Skittles I
5:05
think the it's the answer is right there
5:07
we have a lot of Skittles that are still
5:09
getting freeze dried we can take a small
5:11
peek over here all right so you have
5:13
this big facility when I was first here
5:15
you know you didn't have these freeze
5:17
dryers you didn't have all the you know
5:19
the stuff that actually makes the freeze
5:21
dry candy so tell us a little bit about
5:22
what we just went through yeah so we
5:24
went through our freeze drying station
5:26
and then we also have our preparation
5:28
station on the other side but what we
5:30
just went through was actually what we
5:32
thought we were going to grow into and
5:35
we've outgrown the place already uh
5:37
we're not running at full capacity here
5:39
right now um just because we're not
5:41
running certain skews with each other
5:43
just because of the time it takes to
5:44
prepare but we just walked through a
5:45
freeze dried station so that station is
5:48
actually temperature controlled uh we
5:50
have all the heat being vacuumed out of
5:51
that room which is why it doesn't feel
5:53
hot um how you would expect a room full
5:56
of freeze dryers to usually feel yeah
5:58
one of the things I saw when I was here
5:59
was all the ventilation that you have
6:02
because you know the freeze dryers
6:03
produce that heat from the pump and the
6:05
freeze dryer so you've got a really good
6:07
way to kind of get the the air flowing
6:09
out of there okay so one of the things
6:11
Jesus that a lot of people ask when
6:13
they're looking at getting maybe not to
6:15
the scale that you are maybe they are
6:17
but they're like how do I store candy
6:19
cuz like I need to make a lot of
6:20
production but also like sometimes
6:23
there's es and flows of supply and
6:25
demand so talk about storing your
6:27
freeze-dried candy for future packaging
6:31
yeah so it honestly it feels like we
6:32
learned things the hard way I don't know
6:34
how much candy we've ruined because of
6:35
that I think the best thing is your
6:37
environment we used to work at a
6:38
warehouse with a swamp cooler and I
6:41
remember running it all night because we
6:43
had an all nighter and we produced candy
6:46
all night had the swamp coolers going
6:48
cuz it was the middle of the summer and
6:50
we were going to package the next day
6:52
when the packaging team came in the next
6:53
day it had all regained moisture because
6:55
we left the swamp coolers on so I think
6:57
first it's your environment we don't
6:58
have swamp coolers in here we have uh
7:00
machines that actually help us remove
7:02
moisture from the air um we try to keep
7:04
it as moisture free as possible yeah and
7:07
these are all freeze-dried Skittles so
7:09
you know you have you've produced a lot
7:12
of different things like how long will
7:14
this stay in here uh this will stay in
7:17
here for a day but if we really needed
7:19
to push it it would stay here for a week
7:21
if it needed to stay here longer than a
7:23
week then we transfer it to our other
7:24
Warehouse um which I feel like is way
7:26
better to keep product at just because
7:27
of moisture um but but yeah right now
7:30
they're double wrapped there's only so
7:32
much you could do though it's so much
7:33
candy it's so heavy it's really hard to
7:35
try to put this in another bag and it's
7:37
really labor intensive uh so I think for
7:40
us it's just packaging it as quick as
7:43
possible and getting it sold so people
7:45
can eat it a lot of people are trying to
7:47
Source their bulk candy or get candy in
7:51
bulk what's your advice for people
7:53
starting out who have grown a little bit
7:56
outside of getting it at Costco or Sam's
7:58
Club things like that how do you you go
7:59
about finding a great source for your
8:01
candy if you think you need a
8:03
distributor because you're having to go
8:06
to multiple Walmarts let's say it might
8:08
be better to keep going to multiple
8:09
Walmarts unless the time it's taking you
8:13
to go to multiple stores yeah is too
8:16
much it's really hard to beat these
8:18
stores at price um we currently do bring
8:21
in stuff through Distributors it's more
8:24
expensive than what you're getting it
8:25
but the reason we're doing that is
8:27
because the amount of time it would take
8:28
to get it at local stores wouldn't be
8:30
worth it for us but I would say don't
8:32
try to make that jump too quickly it
8:34
sounds cool getting it from a
8:35
distributor it sounds like you're the
8:37
big guy but if you could get away with
8:39
getting all your candy from Walmart uh
8:42
it's how we started you're going to have
8:44
a way higher profit margin than getting
8:45
it from distributor now we're standing
8:47
next to the gummy ghost so when you're
8:49
making your own candy though too has
8:52
that driven down the cost and all your
8:54
expenses to since you're making your own
8:56
candy now you don't have to really go to
8:58
the Walmart you don't have have to go to
8:59
these Distributors it's supposed to in
9:01
the long run so when you initially
9:03
launch something like the gummy ghost
9:05
it's just it's a lot of testing and
9:07
learning it's a lot of Trials it's we're
9:10
not making a lot of gummy ghosts I think
9:12
gummy ghost we've made we haven't made
9:15
over than we haven't made over a million
9:17
pouches of gummy ghost when we make over
9:19
a million pouches of gummy ghost at that
9:21
point I would say hey we're making this
9:24
product we're getting it really cheap
9:26
it's because it's it's our product yeah
9:29
um but when you're launching and you
9:30
have to make 10,000 just to test it it's
9:32
going to be really expensive just
9:34
because you're not buying at a level
9:37
where Distributors consider you big so
9:39
you're paying retail prices for
9:42
everything just to test it as far as
9:44
boxes pouches packaging if you're
9:46
ordering 20,000 pouches uh that's not a
9:49
lot to a company that's used to selling
9:52
someone millions of pouches so it's more
9:54
expensive at the beginning but if you're
9:56
in it for the long run it's going to
9:58
it's going to be cheaper yeah you
9:59
haven't reached the equilibrium yet of
10:02
like okay once we hit this amount of
10:04
volume in the gummy ghost then we start
10:06
making a profit and and it continues to
10:08
start getting more profit more profit
10:10
more profit as you grow so now we're
10:13
actually heading to the marketing and
10:15
media room which is the most exciting
10:16
part of the warehouse we are going to
10:18
skip this side of the second floor no
10:20
top secrets it's just my wife's office
10:22
and I think it's super
10:24
lame oh yeah there's always those places
10:26
of the office that are not that sexy
10:28
it's really it's really professional
10:30
really nice really neat you'd probably
10:32
find it on Pinterest but not in a candy
10:35
approve and then back here is actually
10:37
where we use uh where we freeze dry
10:40
stuff that you see on the videos so none
10:42
of the freeze dryers that you saw
10:43
downstairs get used for videos um this
10:47
is where all the film making takes place
10:49
it's just this small room this is
10:52
probably 90% of our content on the
10:54
channel that you see so uh TR not here
10:57
crash the face of Channel but this is
11:00
what he's got going on right now that
11:02
looks like a brain it always got
11:04
interesting stuff so we're at the wall
11:05
for the awards here yeah this is
11:08
actually the most famous wall on our on
11:09
our social media if you look at any of
11:11
our social media Pages uh we usually do
11:13
all the biting here and all our
11:15
thumbnails so if you just scroll through
11:17
our social media I think 99% of them
11:20
have the thumbnail of this right here
11:22
silver one for the awards for you to
11:25
with KY bartender it's 100,000 trendy
11:27
Zeus right here this is yours right this
11:29
is for 100,000 for trendy Zeus they
11:31
actually sent a really nice letter which
11:32
we like to keep but it's just a letter
11:34
from the CEO of YouTube give this video
11:36
a like so I can get to 100 as well get
11:39
I'd like to get 100K you'll get there um
11:41
we have 100,000 for trendy treats and
11:43
then we have the 1 million for trendy
11:44
treats uh the next plaque available is
11:47
at 10 million I came here in late March
11:51
2024 and you were at 1.6 million
11:54
subscribers and now as of this video
12:00
4.6 yeah 4.5 4.6 so he's grown you've
12:03
grown almost 3 million
12:06
subscribers how did this happen and was
12:09
I just here at the moment that like
12:12
nothing had been implemented and you
12:15
were planning on just exploding or did
12:17
it happen randomly tell us about this um
12:19
it didn't happen randomly I think we
12:21
just have momentum and we haven't sto
12:23
consistency is really important
12:24
listening to your audience is really
12:26
important um when it's you have a way of
12:29
an audience that's watching you and
12:31
supporting you and when you have 1,000
12:33
people they can only tell so many but
12:34
when you have 1 million people they can
12:36
tell a whole another million people to
12:38
follow you and when you have that
12:39
momentum you're showing up you're always
12:41
there for your consumer they're going to
12:43
keep consuming they're going to like the
12:44
content you watch um I owe it all to our
12:46
team um that comes up with the creative
12:49
processes that works with me on creating
12:51
all the videos and um I think secondly
12:54
it's just trusting like God it's the
12:56
reason that I have this up here it's a
12:58
painting of Jesus looking down on us and
13:00
it's just a reminder that like when I
13:02
come in here it's who allows me to do
13:04
everything that I do and just Chase my
13:05
creative workflow and has given me this
13:07
talents and it's just this like it's
13:09
just the reminders of like what's
13:11
important are plaque because we did it
13:13
as a team and then just a portrait of
13:15
Jesus because it's what we always have
13:17
in our heart one thing I noticed is
13:18
you're you're less and less in the
13:21
videos uh Zeus himself so why did you
13:25
make that transition and do you feel
13:27
like it's really helped your your brand
13:30
uh get exposed to more audiences because
13:32
youve brought different personalities in
13:34
yeah I love business and I love giving
13:37
other people the opportunity to fulfill
13:40
and chase their dreams so I know that
13:42
it's a role that's really seek for is
13:45
the role of being a YouTuber of being a
13:47
creative so for me stepping away and
13:49
saying hey uh bringing someone that's
13:51
way more talented than me first of all
13:53
and then giving them the opportunity to
13:55
be a face of a successful Channel and
13:57
really just have their point and take
14:00
their creativity onto the channel is
14:02
something that I think I love the most
14:04
about being a business owner and an
14:05
entrepreneur is giving else someone else
14:07
that opportunity and second I love
14:09
business at the end of the day um I
14:12
launched a business and for that very
14:15
reason for the reason because I love
14:16
business I love entrepreneurship I love
14:18
solving problems I know that you gave me
14:20
a heads up you're going to ask about um
14:22
the free DED Skittles that are coming
14:24
out I love situations that make me have
14:26
to change my whole game plan because
14:28
it's it's where I I feel I thrive I'm
14:30
glad you brought up the freeze drat
14:31
Skittles and Mars coming out with that
14:33
and Hershey cuz it's very recent as of
14:35
this video so let's go to the sour hour
14:37
room and let's talk more about that
