0:00
this is a video tutorial on how to
0:01
create product labels for your packaging
0:03
whether you're selling makeup dog treats
0:05
or selling freeze-dried candy like
0:08
myself you can use this video tutorial
0:10
to create product labels for any type of
0:12
business that you're going to start
0:13
because the label system that I use is
0:15
through Avery which has a wide variety
0:18
of different types of stickers and
0:19
labels that you can easily create a
0:21
template of making it easy to replicate
0:23
and copy to make more product labels for
0:26
your business if this is your first time
0:28
being introduced to me welcome I can
0:29
enage you to subscribe to my channel
0:31
which is called the freeze drying
0:32
business I focus all about starting a
0:34
freeze drying business and also just
0:36
freeze drying in general so if you're
0:37
interested in that topic then subscribe
0:39
to this channel I'd love for you to join
0:40
our community here now what I'm going to
0:42
show you today is a tutorial on the
0:45
templates that I've used in Avery
0:47
avery.com this is a very common sticker
0:51
and product label company that a lot of
0:54
people are used to when you go to
0:55
Staples or you go to Walmart they have
0:57
Avery labels in various different sizes
1:00
even though there's a lot of options you
1:01
want to choose a label that accurately
1:04
puts all the information that you need
1:06
So within my freeze drying business I
1:08
need to have things that can show the
1:10
ingredients but also my brand name my
1:12
contact information as well as the
1:14
weight of whatever I'm putting in the
1:16
bags now I've chosen the 5395 label
1:20
template and this is literally looks
1:24
like a name tag sheet it has eight
1:26
different name tags on the sheet I put
1:28
it in my printer and then it comes out
1:31
like this and prints off all my labels
1:33
so I have eight to a sheet like this and
1:35
when you want to purchase your labels I
1:37
would suggest going through Amazon.com
1:40
the reason being is I found that
1:42
avery.com does offer all the different
1:44
types of product labels but Amazon seems
1:47
to have a lot more inexpensive prices
1:50
plus if you have Amazon Prime you get
1:52
the free shipping so if you're
1:53
interested in purchasing I've got some
1:55
links to Avery's Amazon site so check
1:59
the link in the video description and
2:01
you've got a direct link to the Amazon
2:03
Avery kind of store and then you can buy
2:05
53.95 labels you can find all the
2:08
different products that you want on
2:09
Amazon now before we get to the tutorial
2:11
of showing you how to create the
2:12
template I want to share with you my
2:14
product so this is my freeze-dried
2:16
business it's called freeze dried Depot
2:18
and I've got this kind of craft bag that
2:22
is food safe but also has this Windows
2:24
you can see the freeze DED Skittles if
2:25
you've never had freeze DED Skittles you
2:27
can check out the products in my store
2:30
attached to my channel as well as in
2:31
this video link it's really good if you
2:33
never had them now this is the 5395
2:35
label that's attached to the back of my
2:37
bags I've got the name of the candy my
2:38
brand as well as the what the Nate net
2:40
weight is of the freeze Dy Skittles and
2:42
I've got all the ingredients and I've
2:44
also got different types of dietary
2:46
things that might be coming in through
2:48
allergens as well as I've got the Conta
2:51
information and where it's produced so
2:53
according to my local laws I have to
2:56
have that type of information to be able
2:57
to sell this both on the cottage food
3:00
side which allows you to sell homemade
3:01
Goods but also I'm in a commercial
3:03
kitchen so I'm able to sell things
3:05
wholesale and I can still use this type
3:08
of template before I get into the FDA
3:11
side which is a whole different ball
3:12
game now if you're in the food space and
3:16
you're wondering well don't you have to
3:18
have nutrition labels you don't actually
3:20
the FDA has an exemption for nutritional
3:23
facts that you can apply for as a small
3:26
business now that allows you basically
3:28
to sell upwards of $50,000 in gross
3:31
sales for an individual product without
3:33
having to have the nutrition labeling
3:36
and nutritional facts on there check the
3:39
link out in the video description I've
3:41
got a link to that FDA exemption and you
3:43
can apply to that and therefore you
3:44
don't really have to put nutrition
3:45
labels on there I would always check
3:48
with your local health authority because
3:50
they would actually verify that some
3:53
states uh say yes that's good other
3:56
states maybe are a little bit more leery
3:58
of you disclosing this and they may say
4:02
no I I I know you got the link but
4:04
you're going to have to have this on
4:05
your product so just check with your
4:07
local health authority I've checked with
4:09
mine and this is fine to use now enough
4:11
about my product let's go ahead and jump
4:12
into the tutorial side of this video and
4:14
show you how to create a quick and easy
4:16
product label from scratch all right
4:18
keeping it really simple this is
4:19
avery.com this is the website that you
4:21
need to bookmark if you're interested in
4:23
using their labels for your product
4:26
they've got a lot of things to click on
4:28
the first thing that I want you to do is
4:30
decide what type of labels you want to
4:33
choose now you can select all products
4:36
you can also go to custom printing to
4:38
look at custom labels what I look at is
4:42
blank labels as well so you can look at
4:44
rectangular round Square oval there's
4:47
clear ones there's one that has white
4:49
labels color labels there's things that
4:52
have areas for addresses all of that but
4:55
what I'm going to do is because I use
5:00
label I'm going to type that into the
5:02
search bar and what that's going to
5:03
bring you is a couple of things one you
5:06
can purchase the pack of 400 that I
5:09
showed you directly from avery.com I
5:12
wouldn't purchase directly from
5:13
avery.com because they aren't
5:15
competitive with what you can find on
5:18
Amazon again if you want to purchase
5:20
from Amazon it's almost half the cost go
5:22
to the link in the video description of
5:24
this video and you'll find the link to
5:26
Avery's Amazon site and then you'll see
5:28
some places selling this for half the
5:30
cost now before you choose to start
5:32
designing I would suggest creating your
5:34
own account that way you can organize
5:36
all your different projects and files
5:38
and orders directly in your profile and
5:42
that way it's a searchable database and
5:43
I'll tell you why that is later on in
5:45
this video because you'll be able to
5:47
duplicate and copy so that you can
5:49
create more products using the same
5:51
template now we're going to create a
5:53
completely new design I'm going to share
5:55
with you what that looks like so you
5:57
have different type of templates that
5:59
that they've got within the 53.95 option
6:02
as you can see there's 1,400 of them
6:05
don't over complicate this but look for
6:07
one that maybe makes the most sense for
6:09
you as you can see this is kind of a
6:11
name tag piece but you can create
6:14
something directly from scratch now
6:16
since we're creating this from scratch
6:18
we can actually add our own logo so
6:20
let's go ahead and do that and I've
6:21
already got some of my prices and
6:23
different things that I've used from my
6:26
account which is why you want to create
6:27
an account I'm going to choose my logo
6:29
so I'm going to select my logo of my
6:31
business and now I can arrange it in
6:33
this grid and I can stretch it out make
6:36
it as big and large as I want to quickly
6:38
interjecting here on the tutorial I
6:40
wanted to invite you to subscribe to
6:42
this channel if you're interested in
6:43
freeze drying this is a completely new
6:45
world and you can make a business that
6:47
is profitable out of your freeze dryer I
6:50
review all different types of freeze
6:52
dryers I talk about how to start a
6:53
business what you should be thinking
6:55
about and also the correct ways to make
6:57
your business profitable so if you're
6:59
interested in freeze drying hit the
7:01
Subscribe Bell right now now let's get
7:03
back to the tutorial on creating that
7:04
template so what we need for my freeze
7:06
drying business is we need the title we
7:08
also need the ingredients we need to
7:10
know how much product in terms of
7:12
measurement for ounces or milliliters
7:15
whatever you're selling is on this label
7:18
as well as where it's made I'm just
7:20
going to share with you how to use this
7:22
template for text and shapes and adding
7:24
your different images and logos like
7:26
we've done on this left hand side you
7:28
can click on text just click on add text
7:31
box this is where you can type in
7:33
exactly what you want I'm going to type
7:40
cream now you can adjust the size of
7:44
this to make it however you want and
7:48
also we can move it up to the very top
7:51
so it's right underneath the logo
7:52
anywhere about this this red area that
7:54
you're seeing in the template is kind of
7:57
the area that's going to be for the
7:59
printable area so you don't want to you
8:02
know put your text over top of that red
8:04
line now over on the Le hand side where
8:06
you have your text options once you have
8:08
the text box selected you can select the
8:10
size so if we wanted to go up in the
8:12
size of the text area if we wanted to
8:14
bold it if we wanted to T size it line
8:17
spacing all that is on the Le hand side
8:20
you can add a lot of different things in
8:21
this what I'm going to jump to though is
8:23
I'm going to jump to my actual template
8:26
so that you can see how I've arranged
8:28
that but this is how you create this
8:30
from scratch and let's go over to my
8:32
projects this is my account where I have
8:35
all my different projects and once you
8:37
have an account this is why it's
8:39
important you can then search for what
8:41
you're looking for so I make Huckleberry
8:44
Taffy that's freeze-dried it's delicious
8:47
it's like a malt ball that tastes and
8:50
melts in your mouth it's awesome so I've
8:53
got Huckleberry Taffy and once I have
8:56
this project created I can either open
8:58
it up to edit it or I can print it off
9:00
to print it off on my printer but I can
9:03
also do this I can make a copy and what
9:07
I'm going to do now is I'm going to
9:08
change it to a different flavor so I'm
9:10
going to change it to Cotton
9:13
Candy Taffy and I'm going to say hey
9:16
it's my official copy meaning it's my
9:18
final version and now I'm going to save
9:20
it and now it's officially Built My
9:22
cotton candy Taffy label now I just need
9:25
to go in there and edit the contents of
9:27
it including the ingredients and the the
9:29
naming convention so let's go ahead and
9:31
open the project for my cotton candy
9:34
Taffy and I've got it but I need to
9:36
change it around so I'm going to click
9:38
on view and I want to flip it around so
9:42
that I can see it vertically okay and
9:44
now we can just change this over so
9:46
we're just going to change this over to
9:48
cotton candy all right let's go to
9:50
Google and type in cotton candy taffy
9:57
ingredients and you can go to the actual
10:00
cotton candy bag that you have and you
10:02
can type it up physically or if you buy
10:05
it from something like taffy town or
10:07
Amazon they actually usually have the
10:10
ingredients listed on the site so on
10:13
Taffy town I can go down here and I can
10:16
look up that here's the ingredients for
10:18
this specific type of cotton candy Taffy
10:21
if I'm using this so I'm going to copy
10:24
all these ingredients I'm going to go
10:26
over to the ingredients area and past
10:29
taste the ingredients for this cotton
10:32
candy Taffy now when it comes to
10:34
allergens and things that you want to
10:35
put as it may contain or you have been
10:38
working in an environment that contains
10:39
those things you want to make sure you
10:41
put that on your labels as well if
10:43
you're in freeze drying I would make
10:45
sure that that's just the default so you
10:47
can say that hey it contained milk or it
10:50
was around eggs and um in the state of
10:52
Idaho in my health district they require
10:54
me to state where it's produced also
10:57
where people can contact me if they have
10:59
an issue with my product and then I also
11:01
like to include some marketing to say
11:03
hey if you want to follow my business or
11:04
check me out more here's here's some of
11:07
my social media accounts that I have so
11:10
this entails what Avery labels is able
11:14
to do for you if you create your account
11:16
and you start using their templates it's
11:18
all available here and that way when you
11:20
go to avery.com and you have your
11:22
account you'll be directed to all your
11:24
projects it's a searchable database that
11:26
you can quickly go and print your labels
11:29
now let's talk about printers that you
11:31
should take a look at to print these
11:33
labels now that you're done creating
11:34
your labels you're now ready to print
11:36
them off when you're going to start
11:37
putting them on your bags for selling
11:40
but what type of printer do you use well
11:42
if you're going to use the 53.95
11:44
template like I do you're going to need
11:46
to have kind of a desktop type of
11:48
printer now I use brother printers you
11:50
can use a black and white or you can buy
11:53
a color printer I use a specific color
11:55
printer by Brother sometimes it's
11:57
available still sometimes it's not check
11:59
out the video link in the description
12:01
and I've got a link to the brother type
12:03
of web page on Amazon that's where I buy
12:05
most of my things because I can get most
12:07
of the ink and the printers really
12:10
quickly through Amazon now if you're
12:11
going to choose a different type of
12:13
label template from Avery other than the
12:15
pages type of format and you've got
12:18
something that can be more in a roll
12:19
that's blank you can use a thermal
12:21
printer I personally have the Rollo
12:23
printer and it's worked really well for
12:25
me I don't have the wireless one but
12:27
they do have wireless and and a cord
12:29
connection that you can connect via USB
12:32
to your laptop or to your desktop it's
12:34
wored great for me you can also purchase
12:36
those on Amazon I'll link that to the
12:38
video description as well there's some
12:40
other printers that you can take a look
12:42
at that I've reviewed on my website it's
12:44
freeze dry business.com when it comes to
12:46
Thermal printers most of them don't
12:48
print in color so you got to kind of
12:50
weigh the differences of a desktop
12:53
printer that can print in color as well
12:55
as a thermal printer that mostly prints
12:57
in black and white the thermal printers
12:59
are great for two utilities one for
13:01
shipping labels and the other for
13:03
product labels but you got to be
13:05
comfortable with the fact that there's
13:06
just not a whole lot of color options to
13:09
Brand out your labels so if you can go
13:11
with a thermal printers and go with
13:13
black and white I would suggest with
13:14
that because it can print really quickly
13:16
and you don't have to worry about ink
13:18
now if you're wanting to work with color
13:20
I would suggest getting a really nice
13:22
desktop type of printer that doesn't
13:25
require a whole lot of color changes and
13:27
also you can use for personal use things
13:30
like that because if you're going to buy
13:32
these types of Business Supplies you can
13:34
write it off as a business expense and
13:36
therefore saving you money on the back
13:38
end when you're doing your taxes because
13:40
if you use something 50% or more of the
13:42
time for your business then you can
13:44
write it off as a business expense while
13:46
watching this video if you have
13:47
questions about ingredients labels or
13:50
packaging I've got specific videos about
13:52
the eight commonly most asked questions
13:54
about packaging your freeze-dried
13:56
product I've also got a video about
13:58
ingredients and lab and making sure
13:59
you're having the right required
14:01
information on those labels so if you're
14:03
interested in watching those videos
14:04
they're coming up in the cards above
14:05
here as well as in the video description
14:07
I'll also include them in the thumbnails
14:09
at the end of this video that you can
