hey everyone this is Mason from filter
0:03
grade being a streamer on Twitch mixer
0:05
or YouTube seems nearly effortless if
0:08
you watch some of the biggest names in
0:09
the platform but it took a lot of
0:11
planning and setup to make every stream
0:12
look like a high tier production there
0:14
are a lot of software settings that need
0:16
to be adjusted and a lot of custom
0:17
graphics that need to be made in this
0:19
video I'll be covering how to get your
0:21
stream set up in the OBS software so you
0:23
can start streaming in no time
0:25
for starters download and install OBS
0:27
before setting up any of the stream
0:30
elements click on the Settings button
0:31
and go to the stream tab select the
0:34
streaming service you're going to be
0:35
using then find your stream key in your
0:37
account for that service and copy it
0:39
into OBS don't share this code with
0:42
anyone because it allows anyone who has
0:43
it to stream to your account next go to
0:46
the output tab here is where we can
0:48
adjust some of the stream quality
0:49
settings the first setting is bitrate
0:53
this number goes up to 6000 in OBS
0:55
it determines the video quality if your
0:58
hardware can handle it set this number
0:59
to 6000 the encoder you choose will
1:01
depend on the hardware in your computer
1:04
software x264 uses your CPU which is a
1:08
good choice if you have a powerful
1:09
processor with a lot of course hardware
1:11
encoders will depend on your graphics
1:13
card brand but utilize the power of your
1:15
graphics card to process the stream if
1:17
you have some extra Headroom in your
1:19
graphics card performance and your CPU
1:20
is maxing out you can use this option
1:23
audio bitrate should also be set as high
1:25
as possible but the streaming platform
1:27
may limit this amount for the encoder
1:29
preset experiment with various options
1:31
ideally you want to be as slow as
1:33
possible but that will negatively impact
1:35
your CPU usage if you go to the video
1:39
tab you'll see a base resolution and an
1:41
output resolution your base resolution
1:44
is the resolution of the screen you're
1:45
recording and output is the scaled
1:47
resolution if you're streaming at a
1:49
lower resolution for example if you have
1:51
a 1440p resolution monitor you'll need
1:54
to downscale to 1080p because that is
1:56
what the streaming services support that
1:58
should be everything in the settings for
2:00
now so let's move on to getting the
2:01
elements of our stream in place OBS is
2:04
made up of scenes and sources scenes are
2:07
made up of multiple sources and you can
2:08
switch between scenes during your stream
2:10
to add a new scene click the plus sign
2:13
on the scenes
2:14
and give it a name with that scene
2:16
selected go into the sources tab and
2:18
click the plus sign to add your first
2:20
source you'll be presented with a lot of
2:22
different options but let's start with
2:23
the most simple one display capture this
2:26
will simply capture whatever is on your
2:28
desktop screen now let's add some games
2:30
there are a couple ways to do this for
2:32
the first way you'll need to have the
2:33
game open on your computer in order to
2:35
add it once the game is open click the
2:37
plus sign under the source tab and then
2:39
click Game Capture name the game then
2:42
under mode click on capture specific
2:44
window then select the window for that
2:46
game or you can select capture any
2:49
fullscreen window and OBS should capture
2:52
your games automatically however if it
2:54
doesn't detect the game automatically
2:55
you'll have to use the first method to
2:57
capture it manually
2:58
why use game capture when display
3:01
capture seems to do the same thing
3:02
sometimes a game will only work with
3:04
game capture although other times it
3:06
does the opposite unfortunately using
3:08
display capture will cap your games
3:10
framerate to 60 which is the maximum the
3:12
streaming services can handle game
3:14
capture will let you utilize your high
3:16
refresh rate monitor if you have one
3:17
while the stream itself will only
3:19
display at 60 frames per second but
3:21
streams are more than just games to add
3:24
a webcam click the plus sign and click
3:26
video capture device OBS should
3:29
automatically detect your webcam but if
3:30
not you can click on the device menu and
3:32
select it from the list this will be
3:34
your first source that you'll want to
3:36
adjust the size of sizing and OBS works
3:38
similarly to any Adobe program just
3:40
click on the layer and drag the corners
3:42
or sides to change the size if you want
3:44
to warp the layer hold shift while
3:46
resizing you might want to do this to
3:49
make your webcam frame fit around your
3:50
webcam capture speaking of which let's
3:53
talk about how to add something like a
3:55
webcam frame for a still image this will
3:58
just be an image source and for an
3:59
animated webcam frame this will be a
4:01
media source just locate the file on
4:04
your computer and drag around and resize
4:05
until you're happy with the result
4:07
lastly you need to set up your
4:09
microphone to do this add a new source
4:11
and select audio input capture then just
4:14
select your device to gauge the audio
4:16
levels of your microphone and your game
4:17
the mixer tab has convenient volume
4:19
levels if your audio sources are dipping
4:22
into the red section turn them down at
4:23
the source if you want to test your
4:25
audio you can click the gear symbol next
4:26
to any audio
4:27
source and click on advanced audio
4:29
properties then under audio monitoring
4:31
you can select to monitor specific
4:33
sources since there's a delay I wouldn't
4:35
recommend leaving this on but it's great
4:37
for testing all the other source types
4:39
you're unlikely to use right now most
4:41
important parts are getting your game
4:42
microphone and webcam setup now why
4:46
would you want to create an additional
4:47
scene this is useful if you want more
4:50
screens than only your game for example
4:52
in my stream I have several other
4:54
screens
4:55
my main fullscreen game view an
4:57
alternative view with a larger webcam
4:58
and smaller game screen a just chatting
5:01
scene and then special screens for
5:03
starting soon and be right back
5:04
setting up a new scene is easy click on
5:07
the plus button then go into the sources
5:09
tab and add all of your sources if
5:10
you're adding in a source that you've
5:12
already added an OBS you can choose to
5:14
add that existing source from a list of
5:16
existing sources of the chosen type for
5:19
example if you want your webcam in two
5:21
different scenes you can just select
5:22
from the list of existing sources when
5:24
adding it to your second scene you'll
5:27
notice when clicking around between
5:28
different scenes there will be a fade
5:30
transition between them to change this
5:32
to a different transition go over to the
5:34
scene transitions button click the plus
5:36
sign and you'll be able to add from a
5:37
small list of other transitions you can
5:40
also add your own by selecting a stinger
5:42
transition and go into its properties I
5:44
have an animated stinger transition that
5:46
I edited in After Effects based on a
5:48
free template this makes any stream look
5:50
more professional and contributes
5:51
towards your branding while there are a
5:54
couple ways to do this the way I found
5:56
easiest was to download the web em
5:57
encoder for After Effects which supports
5:59
transparency and videos and keeps the
6:01
file size reasonably small so OBS can
6:03
access and play it easier once you have
6:06
your transition in place browse for it
6:08
on your computer the most important
6:10
setting after this is the transition
6:11
point this is the point at which OBS
6:13
switches from one scene to the next this
6:16
is important because the transition has
6:17
transparency find out how many
6:19
milliseconds or frames into the
6:21
transition video file the screen is
6:23
fully covered by the transition then set
6:25
that timestamp as the transition point
6:27
so one Scene disappears and the next
6:29
appears seamlessly during the transition
6:32
to make the most use of your scenes and
6:34
scene transitions you'll probably want
6:35
to set up some shortcuts so you don't
6:37
have to manually click on the scene to
6:39
change over click on settings and go to
6:41
hotkeys there are an overwhelming amount
6:43
of options here but we just want to find
6:45
each scene and find switch to scene at
6:47
the bottom of the list you can use any
6:49
key or combination of keys that you like
6:51
for me I selected the Alt key and then a
6:53
number because I'm not likely to hit
6:55
that key combination while playing games
6:57
if you have something like a stream deck
7:00
you can of course use that to switch
7:01
between scenes even easier now let's
7:05
move off of OBS and into stream labs
7:07
Stream labs is a website that lets you
7:09
add stream widgets and change your
7:11
alerts stream labs also exists as an OBS
7:14
app so you can combine both OBS and
7:17
stream labs into one on stream labs you
7:20
can customize as much as you like but at
7:23
the bare minimum you'll probably want to
7:24
change some basic things like the
7:26
animated zombie image that is used for
7:28
alerts by default by going into each
7:30
alert type you can change the layout the
7:32
animation the message template and the
7:34
image used you can even add custom HTML
7:36
CSS or JavaScript code the image can
7:39
also be animated if you'd like to create
7:40
a custom alert animation at the top of
7:43
the screen you'll see a widget URL for
7:45
alerts copy this and create a new
7:47
browser source in OBS paste in the URL
7:49
and adjust the dimensions to your liking
7:51
with OBS open still you can click the
7:54
test buttons on streem labs to see what
7:56
your alert will look and sound like on
7:57
stream once you save your changes if you
8:01
look at other widgets in stream labs
8:02
you'll see things like a follower goal
8:04
and a chat box which all work in the
8:05
same way by creating a browser source
8:07
and copying a link customize your stream
8:09
to your liking now your stream is almost
8:11
ready to go before getting started you
8:13
should check your audio levels click the
8:15
start recording button and start playing
8:17
and talking as if you are actually
8:18
streaming then click stop recording and
8:21
watch the video file to make sure
8:22
everything looks and sounds like it's
8:23
supposed to when you're happy with the
8:25
result click the start streaming button
8:27
to begin streaming on your favorite
8:28
platform
8:29
there are plenty of other things you can
8:31
do for your stream including chat
8:32
commands donations and adding music
8:34
sources but this should be more than
8:35
enough to get started with your new
