0:12
hey everyone it's Mike here from
0:13
filtergrade and today we're going to be
0:15
continuing our drone video series by
0:18
talking about how to get your trust
0:20
certification from the FAA this is a
0:23
free test you can complete to show that
0:25
you understand how to safely and legally
0:26
fly your drone in the United States it's
0:29
for recreational Flyers only there's
0:31
separate things for people who are going
0:32
to commercially fly a drone whether it's
0:34
to capture video or do other commercial
0:36
Aviation type work with drones for that
0:39
we'll talk about that in future videos
0:41
as it relates to like capturing video
0:43
content right now though we have a drone
0:45
that's under .5 lb I believe or it's
0:48
something around that weight I'm going
0:49
to check the exact number and we'll put
0:51
it in the video but I think it's 250 g
0:54
in Gams and when you have a drone under
0:57
this amount you don't need to
0:58
technically register it unless you're
1:00
doing commercial work if it's just for
1:02
recreational work you know filming font
1:04
videos test flights things of that
1:06
nature then you can just register it as
1:08
recreational and so we're going to talk
1:10
about that in this video today trust
1:12
stands for the recreational uas safety
1:15
test it's a free online test that all
1:17
recreational drone flyers in the United
1:19
States need to pass to comply with the
1:21
FAA regulations when you're first
1:23
starting out you can you know test out
1:25
your drone whatever but it's good to get
1:27
this as soon as you can because once you
1:29
have it if you ever do have any issues
1:31
when you're flying your drone depending
1:32
on where you are or if you run into
1:34
police or other types of personnel you
1:36
can show them your certificate to prove
1:38
that you're safely and legally flying a
1:41
drone in the United States the issue is
1:43
it might not be airspace that's approved
1:45
so we're going to also talk about some
1:47
places where you can find out how to
1:49
safely fly your drone in a place where
1:51
it's designated and it won't be banned
1:53
or getting in the way of things like
1:55
airports major cities or other things
1:57
that could get you inlegal and other
1:59
types of trouble why do you need this
2:02
test you might be thinking oh I don't
2:03
need this I only fly my drone every so
2:05
often and that could be true if you're
2:07
staying somewhere extremely real and
2:09
maybe you're just flying on your
2:10
property all the time I don't
2:11
necessarily think you need this however
2:13
it's always a good idea to learn safety
2:16
regulations and other regulations around
2:18
your drone flying a drone isn't
2:20
something like simple like just like
2:21
holding a camera in your hand you know
2:23
it's going in the air it could get in
2:25
the way of helicopters other things in
2:27
the air planes whatever you know and
2:30
because of that and the other security
2:32
implications it's a good idea to really
2:34
take precautions and really understand
2:36
what you're getting into and so I would
2:38
recommend anyone to take this test as
2:40
early as you can once you start flying a
2:41
drone it only takes about 20 to 30
2:43
minutes it's completely free and you'll
2:46
understand a little bit better about
2:47
what the US and local regions think
2:50
about how you should fly your drone and
2:52
safely doing
2:53
it how to get your trust certification
2:56
so what you're going to want to do is
2:57
navigate to the Federal Aviation
2:59
Administration website or the FAA and
3:01
research a bit about this when you're on
3:03
there you can understand what trust is
3:05
and why they made it it's specifically
3:07
for recreational drone flyers and it's a
3:10
pretty simple 30-minute test you can
3:11
take online or in person in a few
3:13
locations if you want to show that
3:16
you're certified and also to legally fly
3:17
your drone in the United States
3:20
basically what you want to do is go down
3:22
here on the list where it says list of
3:24
FAA approved test administrators scroll
3:26
down and look for UAV coach then you'll
3:29
open up a new
3:30
page and when you get there you're going
3:33
to be able to see a little bit more
3:35
about what they're offering they offer
3:37
the trust test on their website it's
3:40
very easy you just click get started and
3:42
once you do that you fill out your name
3:44
and information as you can see right
3:46
here it says first pre please provide
3:48
your name and email for the certificate
3:51
make sure when you put your name you put
3:53
your full legal name because this is
3:55
going to be the certificate that you're
3:56
you know showing to people such as your
4:01
you know a police officer or some other
4:02
security Personnel next you click submit
4:06
and then once you click that you'll be
4:08
loaded onto the next page which
4:09
basically takes you through the entire
4:11
test as you can see on my screen I've
4:14
already done it so it's showing 100%
4:15
done but when you get to the first page
4:18
it'll say welcome in course overview and
4:21
this is where you get started it's going
4:23
to tell you a little bit about the
4:24
background and then you just go through
4:25
all the sections and take all the tests
4:28
they're very simple like five 5 to 10
4:30
question multiple choice tests and it's
4:32
just to show that you understand what
4:33
you were reading in the lessons and that
4:36
you know how to safely file your drone
4:39
once you get to the end you'll see the
4:40
completion confirmation basically this
4:43
just says that you actually did it and
4:44
it then shows your finished
4:47
certificate once you have that you're
4:49
going to want to download the file save
4:51
it to your computer save it to your
4:52
phone save it everywhere that you can
4:54
because you never know when you're going
4:56
to need it and you might not have your
4:57
physical copy I also recommend printing
5:00
a physical copy because it's good to
5:01
show that in person when you're flying
5:03
your drone in case anything comes
5:07
up once you complete your recreational
5:09
uas safety test this is what you'll get
5:12
as your certificate print up a copy and
5:14
then whenever you fly your drone I
5:16
recommend keeping this on you just in
5:17
case anything comes
5:19
up all right so that's it that's how you
5:22
get your drone certification for the
5:24
recreational drone flying in the United
5:25
States of America I hope you like that
