It's Gail here with Kylie Morgan. So
0:02
good to see you.
0:04
Good to see you, too. Thanks for having
0:06
me. I'm excited.
0:07
Of course, we have a lot to talk about.
0:08
Um, like my own. Hello.
0:12
What a great song. So, give me I've read
0:14
the story behind it, but give me your
0:16
version of the story behind that song.
0:19
Yes. So, um, this is one of the most
0:21
special songs that I've ever put out for
0:23
a lot of reasons. Um, but it's from a
0:26
perspective and a new life that I am now
0:28
living that is like a completely
0:31
different world for me. Um, I I pretty
0:34
much um set a firework to my life a
0:38
couple years ago and just saw that like,
0:40
you know, the things around me weren't
0:42
fulfilling me and I felt like I was
0:44
consistently giving in all these areas
0:46
of my personal life and my professional
0:48
life and I wasn't receiving that back.
0:50
Um, and so I had, you know, I went
0:52
through a really bad, really bad breakup
0:55
and kind of gave up on love and was
0:57
like, you know what? If that's what it
0:58
is, I don't want anything to do with it.
1:01
And then I ended up rekindling with a
1:03
old friend and fell in love super fast.
1:07
And he has a beautiful little baby girl
1:09
that I have fallen in love with just as
1:11
fast. And now I get to see her grow
1:14
every day and see her just like shine.
1:17
And I get so fulfilled by that. And then
1:19
I just went in and wanted to write a
1:21
song from the perspective that I feel
1:23
like you hear a lot of stepdad songs, at
1:25
least I have, but I've never heard a
1:27
perspective when it came to like a bonus
1:29
mom or a stepmom um singing to the child
1:32
that you know she gets to see grow and
1:34
and get fulfilled by. So I'm I'm really
1:36
excited for this song. I just posted
1:38
like a little snippet of it on socials
1:39
when I the day I wrote it and I played
1:42
it um for my boyfriend and then
1:44
immediately overnight went viral and
1:46
just has seen such an amazing response
1:49
by so many people relating to the song.
1:51
What did he say about it?
1:53
Well, he cried, but he said that he has
1:55
something in his eye that happened.
1:59
He um actually absolutely loved it. Um,
2:01
and it was it was one of those things
2:03
too where it's like it's such a
2:04
perspective that's so delicate and such
2:06
a line to walk and it was really
2:08
important to me to be able to um not
2:11
only honor you know Ava and which is um
2:14
my bonus daughter's name and uh my
2:16
boyfriend but also Ava's real mom
2:18
because you know I wouldn't even be here
2:21
with standing with her without her. And
2:23
so um I wanted to write it with another
2:25
fellow mom and artist. So, I brought in
2:28
uh Casey Tindle, which is a friend of
2:30
mine that I've known for years, and I
2:32
was like, "You know what? You're a mom.
2:33
I need from your perspective as well."
2:35
That way, like, you know, you get both
2:37
of those um both of those views in the
2:40
most like poetic and honorable way.
2:43
And what did the biom think of the song?
2:47
I kind of just like lets it live out
2:49
there. And you know, I think that
2:51
there's a lot of things when it comes
2:52
down to it of just like our lives are so
2:55
public and so we just try to, you know,
2:57
stay out of each other's like anything
2:59
when it comes to everything is about Ava
3:02
and so that's like the priority and so
3:03
we always just get back to her.
3:05
I love that. Now, it's true. I think
3:07
that you weren't even sure that you
3:09
wanted kids, right?
3:10
Yeah. I was like no kids. Um I never
3:13
wanted to get married, never wanted to
3:14
have kids. My career was my baby. Um it
3:17
was this full thing. And then um you
3:19
know I realized actually one of my best
3:22
friends, my guitarist told me this one
3:24
night after a show and he was talking
3:26
about you know kids in the future for
3:27
him and his wife and I gave him the
3:29
whole like eye roll like oh then you're
3:31
never going to want to come out on the
3:32
road and you're never going to want to
3:33
do this just you know giving him a hard
3:35
time and he was like you know Kylie have
3:37
you ever thought about the reason you
3:39
don't want kids is because you're not
3:40
with the person you want kids with and I
3:43
was like
3:45
like mind blown mic drop moment and Um
3:48
it's just it's wild to see the
3:50
difference of me as a human being um
3:53
from the past relationship to this one.
3:55
I walked in, you know, to this
3:57
relationship and I'm like, "Oh, sure.
3:58
You have a you have a little girl. Let's
3:59
let's switch it together. Why not?" Like
4:02
just totally different perspective. Were
4:04
you surprised? So, one of the things
4:06
when I started my website, I don't like
4:08
talking about people's personal lives,
4:09
so I'm asking this really delicately,
4:10
but your split was kind of more public
4:13
than probably you expected.
4:16
Oh, yes. Uh it was way more public than
4:18
I expected. Um I have done my absolute
4:20
best to um heal on my own and separately
4:24
after a lot of years of therapy and a
4:26
lot of things that I had to overcome um
4:29
with that relationship. And then it just
4:32
felt like a continuous um when I felt
4:34
like I was, you know, taken two steps
4:36
forward in the healing process, I would
4:38
be knocked four steps back because of
4:40
the continuous one-sided public view
4:44
that um I would not give. that he would.
4:46
So, I've just continued to keep my eyes
4:49
forward and, you know, remember that
4:51
like I am who I am because of the things
4:54
that I've gone through and that is just
4:55
one of those things that have gotten to
4:57
me gotten me where I am now.
4:59
I love that. Give me your path from the
5:02
if he would wanted to, he would. I
5:04
remember you played that at the Ryman, I
5:07
think. Maybe was it? Yeah, I remember it
5:09
for like a showcase or something. I love
5:10
that song. I still love that song. give
5:13
me your path from there to this song.
5:16
You know, it's it's so wild because
5:18
every time I'm in a meet and greet, I
5:20
feel like um there's so many fans that
5:22
call me they're like country music big
5:23
sister and so that's kind of where that
5:26
song in perspective came from. I just
5:28
wanted to write a song that I with
5:30
advice that I needed to hear, you know,
5:32
even still to this day. You know, I
5:34
think it's one of those songs that never
5:36
expire when it comes to the lessons that
5:38
I've learned and want to continue to be
5:40
an example of. And so seeing the like
5:43
seeing the girls in the front row
5:44
screaming every single word, not
5:46
singing, screaming very very
5:49
aggressively and passionately in the
5:50
most beautiful way. You can see the
5:52
development of like my fans have been
5:54
growing with me if that makes sense. So
5:57
you get to see every phase of my life
5:59
through my music. Um I write about what
6:02
I know. I write about what I'm going
6:04
through at that moment. And it's been
6:06
really cool to see fans see all these
6:08
different chapters of my life from from
6:11
heartbreak to healing to heartbreak to
6:14
healing and then right back around and
6:16
just seeing the phases that brought that
6:18
music to the world.
6:20
And you were also at one point a signed
6:22
artist and you're now an independent
6:24
artist. Talk about that.
6:26
Yeah, this is um this has been a very
6:28
wild couple years. I will say that in a
6:30
million different ways. Um, but I
6:33
realized that, you know, especially with
6:34
how how music is changing so quickly,
6:37
um, when it comes to the one-on-one, um,
6:40
the one-on-one thing that we can have
6:42
with our fans now, just through social
6:44
media alone and being able to, you know,
6:47
walk into a writer room and usually when
6:50
I was assigned to a major deal, there's
6:51
a lot of hoops to jump through to
6:53
release a song. So, you know, you'd walk
6:55
in, you'd write something you love, and
6:56
you're like, "Ah, well, maybe it'll come
6:57
out in four years. I don't know." And so
6:59
I just I realized that the fans were
7:02
choosing the songs for me. And it was a
7:05
one-on-one uh relationship that I got to
7:07
form with these people that I had never
7:10
met that I'll met at that I'll meet at
7:11
shows in the future. And I just realized
7:13
that I wanted them to be involved in it.
7:15
And so I I took a big giant leap of
7:18
faith and I left the biggest label in
7:20
the world. Um I'm just so thankful that
7:22
we left on good terms. They let me out
7:24
of my deal, which they absolutely did
7:26
not have to do. So, it was the most like
7:28
consensual thing where I just called him
7:30
and I was like, "Listen, I'm not happy.
7:32
I feel frustrated." And the the part of
7:35
music that I fell in love with, I'm
7:36
losing and I don't want to lose that.
7:38
And so, it's been a very uh big learning
7:41
curve as far as like I'm like, "Wait,
7:43
how do you do this again? What do you
7:44
who do you talk to about this and how do
7:46
you do this?" But it's been like I'm so
7:48
glad no matter where this next year ends
7:51
up and what company if I decide to land
7:53
on one. Um I've learned so much that I
7:56
feel like I needed to go through that to
7:58
be able to walk in confidently and be
7:59
like, "Okay, you know what? I can do
8:01
this by myself and now I get to like
8:03
choose who I want to build this with."
8:06
And what are we doing about more music
8:07
in 2026?
8:09
We are releasing a project. um I haven't
8:13
announced officially, but um the project
8:16
I'm so proud of and um it's coming with
8:19
a little extra surprise that I'm
8:21
announcing next week. Um it's it's going
8:24
to be a lot of announcements next week.
8:27
So, there's going to be a lot of music
8:29
coming and um quite a few experiences
8:32
for fans to be able to see that music
8:34
live.
8:34
Well, you sound like you're just
8:36
crushing this year so far. So,
8:38
thank you. I appreciate that.
8:41
Last year was not my crush year. This
8:42
year is my crush year.
8:44
But look at you holding your head high.
8:47
Hey, you learn a lot and you go through
8:49
a lot, but there's two options. You can
8:51
either, you know, use it to get you down
8:54
or you can use it to overcome and
8:56
realize that you're once you're finally
8:58
at the top of that valley, you're like,
8:59
"Okay, I did it." You know, I'm I'm here
9:01
because of that. So, I'm just thankful
9:03
to finally be out of that valley. That
9:05
felt like it lasted for way longer than
9:07
it should have. So,
9:09
well, you're doing great.
9:11
Thank you. I appreciate that.
9:12
Best of luck to you. And the song is
9:13
fantastic.
9:14
A I appreciate that. Thank you. And it's
9:17
so cool to like, you know, be able to do
9:18
this and talk to different outlets about
9:21
um this perspective because I feel like
9:23
again, like I said, it was just it was
9:25
one of those things where I I hadn't
9:26
heard a song about it. And to be able to
9:28
bond with so many people and have people
9:30
like you help spread the word of the
9:31
song and be able to have like that form
9:34
of bond with strangers is really cool.
9:36
So, I appreciate you.
9:37
No worries. And it's gonna it's going to
9:39
do great. I know it will.
