hi it's lindsy Diane from Dian decor.com
0:04
in this video we're going to talk all
0:06
about animal print Decor specifically
0:10
we're going to talk about 10 non-tacky
0:12
ways to use animal print Decor animal
0:16
print is a tricky thing because it's
0:18
very bold and very iny face also there
0:22
are some ethical implications about
0:26
using the skins of animals to decorate
0:30
for the purposes of this video I'm not
0:32
suggesting that anyone's using any real
0:35
hides you know we're just talking about
0:37
pattern here pattern and color bold
0:40
patterns and bold colors animal print
0:42
Decor can look Chic and fun and stylish
0:46
but it's also very easy to go overboard
0:49
with it particularly if you're mixing
0:52
too many different prints together or if
0:54
you're using too much of a bold print in
0:57
a small space so in this video I want to
1:00
talk about 10 ways that you can use
1:02
animal print Decor in your home and
1:04
still stay on the side of chic
1:07
sophistication let's start by talking
1:09
about your different animal print
1:12
options and then we're going to dive
1:14
into the 10 ways that you can use animal
1:17
print in a really non-tacky way so that
1:20
you stay on the Chic and sophisticated
1:22
end of things so the most popular prints
1:25
and patterns that you're going to find
1:27
easily accessible are going to to be
1:30
like a cheetah print leopard zebra
1:35
giraffe
1:36
peacock snake skin or alligator skin
1:41
those are the most commonly seen types
1:44
of prints that are available for
1:48
decorative purposes so now let's get
1:50
into the 10 non-tacky ways to use animal
1:54
print Decor number one is to use bar
1:57
stools or other accent furniture
2:00
with a print so instead of say using an
2:05
entire sofa that's covered in leopard
2:07
print that might be too much too much
2:10
pattern instead go for just your uh
2:14
upholstered bar stools or go for one
2:18
accent chair or even an ottoman or foot
2:21
stool that is covered in an animal print
2:26
that's a great way to start to dabble in
2:29
some fun prints into your space now if
2:32
you are just experimenting with this
2:34
look and you're not sure that you want
2:36
to make this a permanent feature in your
2:38
home go for a slip cover this is the
2:42
fastest easiest least expensive way to
2:46
experiment with this style cover
2:49
something that you already have with
2:51
this print and it's instantly removable
2:55
you can undo it if you don't like it
2:57
this is something that's easy to do just
2:59
find the stretchy fitted slip covers
3:03
they have them for everything you can
3:05
find them for bar stools you can find
3:07
them for armless chairs like your dining
3:09
room chairs you can find them for Wing
3:12
back chairs or other larger accent
3:14
chairs you can find them of course for
3:17
Ottomans and foot stools as well look
3:21
for a print that you really love and
3:23
find it in a slip cover first and then
3:25
test it out in your home to see if it's
3:27
something that's really going to work
3:29
for you before you invest in a piece
3:32
that's already made in that pattern
3:34
again don't do all of your furniture
3:37
just do accent pieces so if you're going
3:40
to do maybe your bar stools at the
3:42
kitchen just leave it at those so maybe
3:44
three or four bar stools are covered in
3:47
a cheetah print or if you're going to do
3:50
an accent chair just do one arm chair in
3:53
a living room or do a set of foot stools
3:56
or poofs that would be a really great
3:59
way to dabble in this print next up is
4:03
lamps and lighting fixtures now the
4:06
easiest way that you're going to be able
4:08
to integrate animal print into your
4:10
lighting is with either a lamp or a lamp
4:13
shade these are readily available
4:16
everywhere now when it comes to
4:18
chandeliers or larger lighting fixtures
4:21
it's going to be a little bit trickier
4:23
they do have some chandeliers that come
4:25
with their own little like individual
4:27
mini lamp shades but if you want a
4:30
larger light fixture that's really going
4:32
to make a statement you may have to move
4:35
into an animal print adjacent area and
4:40
so by that I mean something that is
4:43
still going to mimic the environment in
4:46
which said animal might live so a jungle
4:49
sort of themed item for lighting which
4:53
you're going to find our tree
4:55
chandeliers you're going to find
4:57
chandeliers with um leaf
5:00
um embossed sort of pieces on them so
5:04
like arms or branches that have leaves
5:07
embossed you're also going to find
5:10
feathered chandeliers as well anything
5:13
like this will meld really well in a
5:15
room where you have other pieces that
5:18
have animal prints so they're not
5:20
exactly print but they are in the same
5:24
family and so it will Mel together and
5:26
give you a nice look that looks like it
5:29
co Ates if you just want to use some
5:33
side lamps that you already own go for
5:36
the shades that's the easiest fastest
5:38
option just swap out a lamp shade for a
5:41
lamp that you already have and you're
5:44
all set next up is animal print
5:47
wallpaper now this is something that can
5:50
be used to create a featured or an
5:52
accent wall or it's a great way to
5:56
decorate your bathroom particularly a
5:59
small bath bathroom or a guest bathroom
6:01
now when it comes to using this bold
6:04
animal print I would use it on one wall
6:07
I wouldn't use it on all walls or if
6:10
you're going to use it on all walls use
6:13
a chair rail system to sort of break up
6:15
your wall so maybe you have a solid
6:17
color at the bottom and then you have
6:19
your print going along on the upper
6:21
portion of your wall that would be okay
6:24
um you definitely don't want to do
6:27
animal print wallpaper and then also do
6:29
animal print lamps and also do animal
6:32
print hand towels that's too much so if
6:36
you're going to go for the wallpaper
6:37
that's going to be pretty bold on its
6:38
own just stick with the wallpaper that's
6:41
a more subtle way to go about it when
6:43
you start adding an extra accessories or
6:46
layering on more Decor to something
6:49
that's already surrounding you visually
6:51
it can be too much and it can end up on
6:53
that tacky end so if you're going to go
6:55
for wallpaper just do wallpaper by
6:58
itself and don't go for anything else if
7:01
you are doing wallpaper in a larger
7:03
space like it's an accent wall in a home
7:06
office then you may be able to sprinkle
7:09
in one or two other patterns but keep
7:13
them very small next up is pillows and
7:17
throw blankets this is a great way to
7:19
Jazz up a bedroom or your sofa and
7:23
chairs in your living room again very
7:26
simple very inexpensive get some pillow
7:29
covers you don't have to invest in new
7:31
pillows go ahead and get some pillow
7:34
covers from Amazon that are in some fun
7:36
prints you can find some in some nice
7:38
like velvety peacock or you can find a
7:41
zebra print or a cheetah print or a
7:44
leopard print you're going to find uh
7:47
pillow covers in just about any print
7:48
that you want again you can go for that
7:51
faux leather that's a snake skin or an
7:53
alligator skin if you want as well um
7:56
but go ahead and just sprinkle in the
7:59
pillows and maybe a throw blanket with a
8:01
nice pattern again if you want to just
8:05
be sort of animal print adjacent you
8:07
don't have to have something with a
8:09
print you could have something that's a
8:11
faux fur that still works well with this
8:14
whole Motif without it carrying another
8:17
large you know attention
8:20
demanding uh pattern so instead you can
8:24
go for something that's like maybe a
8:25
faux chin Chilla and it's sort of got
8:27
this gray and white hair to it or
8:30
something that's got a a light uh cream
8:33
base to it anything like that would work
8:36
well paired with a bold animal print
8:39
patterned pillow so consider pillows and
8:43
throw blankets to decorate with animal
8:46
print without going overboard next up is
8:49
candles candlesticks candlestick holders
8:53
and candle jars now these are all very
8:58
easy tabletop top accents to spread
9:01
around your home if you want to infuse
9:03
some animal print into your spaces so
9:06
you can use these on a dining room table
9:08
You' use them on a bathroom counter
9:11
they're small they pack a big Punch If
9:15
you get a great pattern on a Candle jar
9:19
or even have candle sticks that have a
9:21
pretty print on them I've seen uh
9:24
cheetah candlesticks and even tortoise
9:27
shell candlesticks that's another option
9:29
that didn't mention in the beginning
9:30
tortoise shell is a great pattern to
9:32
infuse in your home if you like animal
9:34
print when it comes to candlestick
9:37
holders you're going to have a harder
9:39
time finding patterns they exist but
9:42
they're not mainstream so you may have
9:43
to go to places like Etsy to find them
9:46
being handmade alternatively you can go
9:49
for some nice brass candlestick holders
9:52
that are a figurine that's more that's
9:56
going to be something that's going to be
9:57
easier to find so you can find little
10:00
elephant figurine candlestick holders or
10:02
leopard figurine candlestick holders
10:05
that's a great way to again be a little
10:08
bit sort of pattern adjacent and still
10:10
get that feeling in your home picture
10:13
frames and wall art are an easy way to
10:16
get a bold animal print pattern into
10:20
your room in a big way you can find
10:23
animal print wall art at Wayfair or at
10:26
Target or Walmart they're e easy finds
10:30
and they're a great way to sprinkle in
10:33
some animal print into your room without
10:35
going to overboard again you don't want
10:38
to pair it up with too many of these
10:40
things but maybe one other thing so
10:41
let's say you have the wall art that's
10:43
animal print and in your dining room and
10:45
then you also have maybe these like
10:47
candlestick holders that are cheetah and
10:50
you maybe have some candlesticks with a
10:51
little pattern on them that's enough um
10:54
I wouldn't then also do the chairs and
10:56
also do the pillows and also do some of
10:58
the other things that we're going to
10:59
mention on the list that might be
11:01
overboard but pick one or two things if
11:04
you're going to do the wall art and that
11:06
will help meld together the look and
11:08
make it look really intentional next up
11:11
are vases now animal print vases are
11:14
abundant you can find them pretty much
11:16
anywhere you're going to see a lot of
11:18
leopard print a lot of zebra print a lot
11:21
of tortoise shell sort of looks vases
11:25
come in all different materials whether
11:27
it's uh a GL a blown glass print or you
11:31
may have just something that's wrapped a
11:33
glass cylinder that's wrapped in a print
11:36
you may have a um a plastic vessel a
11:40
wood vessel a ceramic vessel that's been
11:43
painted in a particular pattern there
11:45
are lots of different options when it
11:46
comes to vases and they're an easy way
11:49
to decorate a tabletop again if you're
11:51
looking to put a centerpiece on your
11:54
dining room table or maybe your coffee
11:56
table or your kitchen counter a vase is
11:59
a great way to Splash in a little animal
12:01
print into your space next up are
12:04
tabletop accents so think about table
12:08
runners place mats
12:11
Chargers also just dining sets little
12:15
bowls that have an animal print on them
12:18
you may have coordinating utensils that
12:21
have animal print on the handle there's
12:24
lots in the dinner wear space that
12:26
you're going to be able to find that has
12:29
different animal print patterns you can
12:31
have serving bowls with the big like
12:33
salad tongs that have animal print on
12:35
the ends of them things like this are
12:38
just enough to Splash a little bit of
12:40
Interest onto your table without going
12:43
overboard it won't look tacky it doesn't
12:46
matter if you have anything else that's
12:48
animal print if you want to do a table
12:50
runner and a couple of beautiful wood
12:52
bowls with some you know a salad tongs
12:55
or a salad fork and spoon that has some
12:58
animal print handles on it it's going to
13:00
look beautiful it's going to look Chic
13:02
and sophisticated and it will not at all
13:05
look tacky next up is rugs now rugs are
13:09
a great way to Splash in color and
13:13
pattern into your space especially if
13:15
you have an otherwise neutral palette
13:17
for your furniture so if let's say your
13:20
living room has all cream Furniture you
13:22
bought a set and you throw down a zebra
13:25
print rug that's black and white and
13:28
you've got those stripes on it it's
13:30
going to look awesome it will look so so
13:33
nice very chic very
13:36
sophisticated um you can also opt to go
13:40
for a faux hide this is something that's
13:43
better for a smaller seating area just
13:46
because of the organic shape of it so if
13:50
you are you have a standard layout
13:53
standard living room or your bedroom or
13:55
something like that you might want to
13:57
just stick with something rectangular
13:59
but if you have a seating area that's
14:00
maybe um maybe you have a patio you
14:04
could go for a faux hiide there or maybe
14:06
you have a little reading Nook or your
14:08
home office where your furniture is in
14:12
more of like a gathered around sort of
14:14
um configuration and you can get away
14:18
with having a more organic formed rug
14:21
there go for it you won't find these to
14:25
be particularly large because again it's
14:27
supposed to be mimicking a hide which
14:29
means it's going to mimic the size of
14:31
the animal you're not going to see an 8
14:35
by10 uh zebra print faux hiide you're
14:38
just it's unlikely that you would see
14:41
anything like that um if you did it
14:43
would look very very fake and that
14:46
actually would look tacky so if you want
14:48
to go for a larger rug just go for like
14:51
a faux print that's a regular
14:52
rectangular size but if you want
14:54
something that's accented or you just
14:56
want to maybe even layer on your rug
14:59
then you could go for something that's
15:00
in a fauxy shape you might pay a little
15:03
bit more for these depending upon the
15:04
size but again this is a fun way to get
15:08
some pattern into your space and to use
15:10
that animal print decor and last but not
15:13
least are curtains so whether we're
15:16
talking about window treatments or
15:18
you're talking about a bathroom curtain
15:19
either one is a great way to use animal
15:22
print Decor in your home without going
15:25
overboard now when it comes to curtains
15:29
on your windows and having multiple
15:31
windows with multiple panels consider
15:35
instead of using a fullon pattern so
15:38
instead of being uh full cheetah print
15:42
think about using a pattern that instead
15:46
has an animal on it that is featuring
15:49
that print so something that may have
15:52
like branches and Vines and then also a
15:55
a leopard that repeats something really
15:58
fun thinking immediately of the Jungle
16:01
collection from um Justina blakley and
16:05
Target I just did the video on the
16:07
celebrity home decor collabs but think
16:10
about stuff like that that is a really
16:12
fun pattern that maybe sort of nature or
16:16
wild inspired you may find things that
16:19
have animals on them that um really work
16:23
very well instead of having to have
16:26
multiple panels of a zebra print or
16:29
multiple panels of a cheetah print that
16:32
can be a little bit overwhelming if you
16:33
have a lot of windows but if you say
16:36
have a home office with one window or
16:37
you have a small guest bedroom with one
16:41
window it's perfectly fine to have that
16:45
but if you're talking about a living
16:46
room with five different windows and you
16:48
want to go cheetah print on all of those
16:50
windows that might be a little bit much
16:52
so instead think about using a pattern
16:56
that instead has an animal on it within
16:58
the print instead of the print being the
17:02
entire um pattern if that makes
17:06
sense that's it for this video I hope
17:08
you found it helpful those are 10
17:10
non-tacky ways to use animal print Decor
