hi it's lindsy Diane from Dian
0:04
decore.com in this video we're going to
0:06
talk all about simple decorating ideas
0:09
so whether you're looking to refresh
0:10
your home or you're just getting started
0:13
and you want to know exactly what to put
0:15
where and how you can do it affordably
0:18
and easily this video is for you let's
0:21
get started with five simple decorating
0:28
ideas the first simple decorating idea
0:32
is the stack now the stack we see all
0:35
over the place this is a stack of two or
0:38
three books with a little potted plant
0:41
on Top This is perfect for decorating a
0:45
coffee table an end table a console
0:47
table a little countertop of course be
0:51
flexible with this idea it doesn't have
0:53
to be a potted plant right you can have
0:56
a stack of books and you can put a
0:57
candle on top you can put a little
0:59
figurine on top you can put a framed
1:02
photo on top the idea is to take
1:04
something that you already have likely a
1:06
few little books and you can stack them
1:09
and place something on top the other
1:11
thing that you want to keep in mind when
1:13
doing this is that you want the item
1:16
that's at the top of your stack to be in
1:18
proportion with the size of your books
1:21
so if you wanted to do this on an end
1:23
table you would probably use smaller
1:24
books but if you wanted to put this at
1:26
the center of a console table you'd
1:28
probably use some larger books and
1:30
therefore use a larger topper so a vase
1:34
or a larger potted plant would be more
1:37
appropriate than something teeny tiny
1:39
that you might put on a window
1:44
sill the next simple decorating idea is
1:47
a basket and a blanket now a basket and
1:51
a blanket are very easy to put together
1:55
get yourself a large wicker basket and
1:58
just go ahead and Tuck a blanket inside
2:00
or a pillow and some blankets inside and
2:03
let that blanket sort of cascade over
2:05
the edge of the basket and you will have
2:07
a really beautiful decorative accent now
2:11
you can use this to fill the corner of a
2:13
room so if you don't have a you know a
2:16
potted plant or a lamp or something
2:18
large and you kind of have a void in the
2:20
corner of a room you can use the basket
2:22
and the blanket the other way to use the
2:24
basket and a blanket is to help balance
2:27
out your furniture arrangement so you
2:30
can place the basket on the side of an
2:32
accent chair so let's say you have maybe
2:35
two end tables on either side of your
2:37
sofa and you want to have something else
2:40
that's kind of balancing out your
2:41
seating group and so you might put the
2:43
basket in the blanket next to a accent
2:46
chair or you could put it next to a love
2:49
seat either way it will help to balance
2:52
out your furniture because it's a larger
2:54
piece now you do not have to have a
2:57
large basket for this to work if all you
3:00
have are smaller or mediumsized baskets
3:03
that's just fine you can use those
3:05
instead on an elevated surface so while
3:08
you wouldn't necessarily put those on a
3:10
floor or try to use them to balance out
3:12
Furniture you could definitely put a
3:15
smaller basket on an end table and fill
3:18
it with books you could put it on your
3:21
fireplace mantle you can use baskets
3:25
with personal care items in your
3:27
bathroom you can put them on the toilet
3:29
tank or you could put them at the corner
3:30
of the sink this the baskets are very
3:33
versatile and you can put different
3:35
things in them and again a blanket or
3:38
pillows or books is something that
3:41
everyone usually has on hand so consider
3:44
using a basket and a blanket to decorate
3:46
your
3:49
[Music]
3:50
home the next simple decorating idea is
3:53
a statement Decor piece combined with
3:56
wall art now this is a classic entryway
4:00
decorating idea we see this a lot at
4:02
entryways you have a larger vase or
4:05
vessel ideally you would like for
4:08
something maybe 12 in or more if you
4:11
have a smaller vaser vessel um you can
4:14
go ahead and add some stems to it add
4:16
some floral stems to it it will help
4:18
give you that uh height and that width
4:21
and it will help spread it out and make
4:22
it seem like it's larger than it is
4:24
alternatively you could use a statue or
4:28
uh some other sort of figure urine but
4:31
let it be sizable at least and then go
4:34
ahead and place a piece of wall art
4:38
right behind it hang it on the wall you
4:40
want to go for something that's at least
4:41
maybe 20 by 30 inches something again
4:44
that's a decent size now again be
4:47
flexible with these ideas use what you
4:49
have your wall art might not be a framed
4:53
print it could be a painting on
4:56
stretched canvas it could be a
4:58
sculptural piece of wall art it could be
5:00
a gallery wall it could be a mirror
5:02
you're just looking for something
5:04
sizable to put on the wall and then
5:05
you're going to Center your tabletop
5:08
Decor accent right in front of it at the
5:11
center of a little console table or an
5:14
end table or whatever you have you're
5:16
going to Center that right in front of
5:18
the piece of wall art and it will make
5:20
for a beautiful simple combination the
5:24
size of the two of those things is good
5:26
enough that you do not have to add a ton
5:28
of other decor torture that area it's
5:31
simple and it's elegant and it's easy to
5:37
do next up is the vignette now this is
5:41
something that we see very very often
5:44
the vignette is essentially a cluster of
5:47
smaller decorative items placed together
5:50
to create a sort of decorative moment so
5:54
normally you may see three or five items
5:56
kind of grouped together on again a
5:59
tabletop it could be on a countertop it
6:02
could be uh on a mantle on a bookshelf
6:06
vignettes are really great way to
6:08
decorate your space you can also get
6:10
away with using smaller items so if you
6:12
don't have really large vases or statues
6:16
or framed artwork vignettes sort of work
6:20
by using a lot of small items to create
6:23
a larger visual impact in your space a
6:27
great way to group your V items is by
6:31
using a tray this helps make sure that
6:34
they stay in proximity to one another
6:36
because if you have too many items that
6:37
are just kind of floating around there's
6:39
too much space in between them they
6:40
won't read as one decorative element and
6:43
that's really what you're going for with
6:44
the vignette if you don't have a tray
6:46
you can use a decorative plate a bowl a
6:50
place mat a charger just something
6:52
that's going to help anchor those free
6:56
floating items together on your tabletop
6:59
or countertop you can pretty much use
7:01
anything to create a vignette books
7:04
candles framed artwork vases
7:09
figurines there are so many different
7:11
things that you can kind of group
7:13
together and make a decorative moment
7:15
out of these now what I will say about
7:18
creating vignettes is that you don't
7:20
have to get it perfect on the first
7:23
try sometimes it's easier to just kind
7:25
of set something up and say okay I think
7:28
this works and walk away away from it
7:30
and then the next day when you come by
7:32
you kind of reexamine it and you can
7:33
fiddle and adjust with it as you need
7:36
because again these things are so
7:38
flexible that there's a lot of different
7:40
combinations of things that will work
7:42
and so there is no really one right
7:44
answer to a vignette you just make it
7:47
work for your space if it looks pleasing
7:49
to you and it makes you smile then
7:51
that's all you need so this is a really
7:54
simple decorating idea that you can use
7:57
with things from around your home
8:03
last but not least is the set now
8:06
creating a symmetrical display with a
8:08
set of items is one of the easiest and
8:11
simplest decorating ideas out there it
8:14
will take you no time to set up you can
8:17
use a set on a console table by having
8:21
maybe two lamps or two vases you can
8:25
also use a set of items to flank
8:27
furniture and create a decorative focal
8:30
point so if you have a sofa that you
8:32
want to draw attention to you can flank
8:34
it with two floor lamps and use that as
8:37
a set if you have a piece of artwork
8:39
that you really love on the wall you can
8:41
flank that with two wall
8:43
sconces outside on your porch or your
8:46
patio you may have uh some outdoor
8:49
lanterns you can go ahead and use two
8:52
potted plants and hang them from your
8:54
lanterns you can put a set of two bows
8:56
or a set of wreaths out there you can
8:59
also decorate your entryway by putting a
9:02
set of potted topiaries on either side
9:05
of your front door sets are really
9:08
really great and they're a simple way to
9:11
decorate your home you can be creative
9:13
with things that you use again lamps are
9:16
great because they often come in sets
9:19
but you can also have dual uh figurines
9:23
now they don't have to be identical but
9:25
ideally they would be the same finish
9:28
the same size the same height that would
9:32
work for a set you could also use
9:36
bookends as a set you can use vases like
9:39
we mentioned before there are a lot of
9:42
different things you can do a basket
9:45
with books and do two of them and use
9:47
that as a set to help create a beautiful
9:49
symmetrical display so there you have it
9:52
five simple decorating ideas that you
9:55
can use in your home the stack the
9:58
basket and blanket
10:00
the statement decor and wall
10:02
art the vignette and the set so try out
