It's David George Brook, That Gratitude Guy, with the power of a gratitude mindset
0:12
So what is the story on this thing about gratitude anyway? Where did this come from
0:16
How did I get into it? How did this become such an impact in my life? Well, let me start by saying that when you go through different challenges in life, life
0:23
is such a roller coaster ride of ups and downs and everybody loves the ups
0:29
Everybody really likes to go through the downs, but it's the downs where you really learn
0:32
your lessons and really the things that will make you learn to look back and say, what
0:37
did I learn from this? What could I take away from this? What can I apply to the future
0:42
But it just goes up and down. So what do we do when we're in those down phases when nobody returns your phone call
0:47
and you don't seem to have any friends or it seems like life's pretty lonely? Well, one of the things that I found was gratitude and the fact of a gratitude mindset is all
0:57
about focusing on what you have. There's the old line about the glass half full, the glass half empty
1:03
Well, it's definitely the glass half full. My favorite line, gratitude turns what you have into enough
1:08
So for me in dealing with many of the negatives of life or the deaths or the losses or the
1:14
mistakes or the missteps that I made, what was I going to do to help me get through those times
1:20
Because as we said, not only is it up and down, but there's this whole winding road
1:24
that you have, like the ups and downs and left and right. You never know what life's going to bring
1:28
I don't think any of us is truly prepared for some of the ups and downs we're going
1:32
to deal with. So how do you deal with those downs? As I say, with the ups, it's great
1:37
Everybody loves you. They return your phone calls. They invite you to the parties. Everything's great
1:41
You've got lots of friends. But boy, when you're suffering, I have a friend that's in the hospital recently
1:46
We were lamenting the fact that you really find out who your friends are when you have
1:50
something like that happen. And when you're in the hospital, things aren't going well
1:55
So what do you do during those times? Because I think one of the things I talk about, which is so important, I contend the most
2:01
important relationship you're ever going to have is the one you have with the person in
2:05
the mirror. If you have a strong relationship with the person in the mirror, everything in your life
2:10
works better. It just seems to flow better. You don't have this over-reliance on people that you count on that don't come through
2:16
for you. If you have that great relationship, everything just seems to flow
2:21
And that's what's really important. What helps do that? A gratitude mindset does that and a gratitude practice
2:27
What are some of the elements? Focusing on what you have. Make your strengths productive
2:31
Make your weaknesses irrelevant. It's so important to think and lead with your strengths
2:36
And don't worry about what the things that aren't working in your life or that you're not that good at
2:40
It's not that important. I've said many times, I've spoken to 10,000 soldiers, but I can't draw a circle to save
2:47
my life. So I'm not going to go take an art class. So really think about that and go towards the strengths
2:53
Go towards the things that you are good at, that you like, that you enjoy
2:57
They say if you enjoy your work, you never work another day in your life. And I so love what I do, spreading this message about gratitude and why it's so important
3:05
and how it can help you so much. And I think that many times I think about how it changed me and how it kind of saved
3:12
me and it gave me this because it kept me on this constant focus. And that's why the gratitude journal is so important because every single day I write
3:20
down everything I'm grateful for and it makes such a difference. I am so grateful for my health
3:24
I am so grateful for my sons. I am so grateful for the sunny day that it is today or whatever it might be
3:30
It keeps your mind focused on your blessings and abundance. And that is so, so very important
3:35
So really consider a gratitude mindset, consider a gratitude practice, throw in some other
3:41
things there like meditation and the gratitude journal and letting people know on a regular
3:46
basis how grateful you are to have them in your life. It's amazing how much that'll come back to you because after all, if you want to help
3:52
yourself, help other people, but start with yourself and get a great relationship with yourself
3:57
You write in a gratitude journal every single day, you will get a better relationship with yourself
4:02
So really consider a gratitude practice and a gratitude mindset. Yes, it's definitely glass half full
4:08
It's being grateful versus ungrateful. It's being positive versus being negative. There's a lot of negative people in this world
4:14
There's a lot of reasons to be negative in this world. So really, really think about that and just ask yourself, how would I benefit from a gratitude
4:23
practice and a gratitude mindset? It is such a great way to live
4:27
So some things to think about and definitely think about a gratitude journal as well
4:31
I'm that gratitude guy. Remember, be grateful and never quit. Take care
