The complex includes a labyrinth of interconnected passageways that lead to the cemetery of Asaf-ud-Daula and a replica of the tomb of Mohammed in Mecca, as well as colorful chandeliers and no support pillars. Another landmark is Rumi Darwaza, a sixty-foot-tall example of Awadhi architecture built in 1784. Finally, the British Residency was built between 1780 and 1800 and was the subject of the Siege of Lucknow in 1857 during the Indian Rebellion. Of course, you can’t visit Lucknow without experiencing its phenomenal cuisine. The kebabs at Tunday Kebabi are among the tastiest in all of India. It’s worth it to travel to Lucknow just to have these kebabs! While visiting Lucknow, visitors should take advantage of the opportunity to explore these historic sites. Hiring an English-speaking guide is highly recommended to ensure that visitors get the most out of their experience.
